Love this place. Always good food and service. This is our go to when we want a good meal.

I had the citrus chili chicken and it had to be the most disappointing dish I have ever eaten. First of all, the menu description says something like: two grilled chicken breasts covered in a zesty citrus chili sauce with corn and tomato salsa and avocadoes over a bed of rice pilaf. Second, this is not what I received. What I received was a plate that was half full(had to ask where my rice was and it was there but buried under everything else). It is not good presentation to leave so much negative space on the plate. Once I looked at the plate, I was wondering what I received. I got two grilled chicken breasts covered in a zesty citrus chili sauce with frozen corn and sliced tomatoes and avocadoes on a bed of white rice. So it was just two veggies on there, not a salsa! Also, you shouldn’t call white rice a rice pilaf. A rice pilaf normally has a mixture of rices and is seasoned. I was left wondering whether this was the version they serve at the old folks home or… at any rate, when I go to a restaurant, I expect the plate to match the menu description. If it doesn’t, then that’s misrepresentation. If I would have known what I was going to receive, I wouldn’t have ordered it. I could have made this dish at home in my own kitchen and done a far better job and I’m not even a cook. So I ordered a piece of pie as I knew that would be good. I still did tip but seriously, the Citrus Chili Chicken should go off the menu. It lacks any real creativity. Or if they want to keep it on, then they should change the menu description. I’ll probably email management about this as I’m worried that either they might have ran out of something and substituted for it in the dish or someone just made it incorrectly in the first place.

Went in today, got seated– took them over 20 minutes to come back and get our drink orders. Then another 10 – 15(or a bit longer) to get our food order. They just were not on the ball today. I also noticed the new vinyl seats(put in a couple years ago) were pretty shredded in our booth. Despite the remodel, they really need to work to keep up this place better. Thankfully the food was fine for this level of establishment, but nothing really to write home about.

The food was pretty average. The hash browns were kinda burnt on the outside but barely cooked on the inside. The chocolate chip pancakes were very moist and the chocolate chips over powered the actual pancake. Their sausage also tasted fake and could definitely be cooked more. The service is great and they seem to be pretty fast to get the food out. It took them awhile to get the pies that we ordered out though. Overall it was ok.

Went here on the way through Cesar Rapids and we are glad we did. The food(breakfast) was amazing and the service was exceptional. The speed that we got the food was great. Would go back again anytime.

Disappointing. The dining experience was annoying. I used to be a waitress. I better understand why some customers were mad even after I apologized for burned food or late service. It is annoying to pay money to relax just to leave annoyed and regretful of wasting money on subpar food and customer service.

My in-laws eat here almost every day. We join them once every few weeks for dinner. It’s kind of like Perkins or Happy Chef(now extinct in our city). They remodeled recently and fired the manager who’d been there for a long time. Not sure why, he seemed like a good manager. Anyhow, the food is acceptable, but nothing that’s going to leave a lasting impression on you. I think they could do without the big t.v.s in the corners, they’re distracting. And the new, bright colors kind of wear on you after a while. A little too much visual stimulation. It’s like eating dinner inside of a Japanese cartoon. The wait staff usually looks exhausted and overworked. Hopefully Village Inn’s remodeling will bring in enough income to give the wait staff a pay raise, so they don’t have to work three jobs.

Newly remodeled restaurant = Higher prices. This used to be an awesome place, good food, good service and great prices. The new remodel looks nice. although it seems to be more cluttered with at HUGE pie cooler right inside the front door. All the menu items are $ 2 – 3 higher than pre-remodel. The food is still good, as well as service but I’m not sure I want to pony up $ 9 for an omelet. $ 28 including tip for 2 people for breakfast. I guess someone has to pay for the new pie cooler.

Food + service was good. Kind-of hard to find parking.
