That One Cupcake Place

Love love love this place. Always have to stop here when I’m in town. These cupcakes are so dense and luxurious. Always a great variety of yummy flavors. I keep coming back to my most favorite flavor — oh so dough. It’s a cookie dough flavored frosting (tastes exactly like cookie dough!) With a dense lovely vanilla cupcake.
Staff is friendly. Always greeted with a smile when I stop by.

Stopped by today to pick up two cupcakes just because. I purchased the Happy Birthday cupcake and a cookie dough one, which I’m saving for my boyfriend. What I love about this place is each time I come they have different flavors. And I love the frosting. I live near a Molly’s Cupcakes and every time I give them a try I’m let down and I realized it’s because of their frosting. That One Cupcake Place has the best frosting. It’s a nice, soft, buttercream which is what my mom always made for my birthday cakes. The Happy Birthday cupcake did taste like birthday cake. They do put A LOT of frosting on all of their cupcakes, but I don’t mind and $ 2.50 for one isn’t too bad either. If you’re in the New Bo area and want something sweet, definitely check them out. Just one cupcake was enough to satisfy me and I could eat a whole box.

Had the Oh so Dough and Classic Chocolate and they. were. delicious. The cake was moist and the frosting was amazing. This place is right up the alley along with Scratch. We will definitely be trying more flavors.

Can’t say enough about how great these cupcakes are! I first tried them at Newbo then realized they had a store located very close to my house. They are perfect every time I go with a large variety of flavors. Highly recommended.

We were in town on business and decided to check out the NewBo city market. The cupcake place is inside. They cupcakes were all so tasty! My favorite hands down was the Samoa. The cookie dough was also really unique and unlike any other cupcake I’ve ever had. It’s a must try too! Do yourself a favor and run to this place for a cupcake if you are anywhere within 50 miles of it!

I’m a big fan of Sprinkles Cupcakes, and I’ve found that other cupcake places don’t quite seem to meet the same quality and standards that I’ve gotten used to. When we tried this place at Newbo a couple months ago, I finally found a place that is a worthy challenger to Sprinkles. Too bad it’s about 1800 miles away from home.
We were about to pass this place by when the bacon cupcake caught my eye. To be honest, I’m starting to find this bacon-​everything trend kind of tiresome. But hey — we were back in Iowa, so it seemed entirely appropriate to give it a try. We also got a sampling of more standard flavors to share at home.
I was expecting a much more salty and strong flavor to the bacon cupcake, so when I bit into it I did so with a little trepidation. I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. There was clearly a flavor of bacon, but it was just right — not too subtle and not too overpowering. The frosting had a nice balance of sweetness and saltiness. There was another flavor that I couldn’t quite place — perhaps a touch of cinnamon? — that seemed to bring everything together.
The other cupcakes were less memorable, and the frosting (as always at places like this) was laid on a little too thick. But still, we all enjoyed our desserts and will certainly make a return trip the next time we’re in the area.

Tried only one flavor, would have loved to try more and still will make an attempt to when I have a chance. They frosting was okay, I think it was a cream cheese frosting, had some decent flavor to it. The cake part was okay as well, nothing too special about it.
Will have to try more flavors next time, but based on the Cherry Cheescake flavor it was just alright.

These cupcakes are delicious! I’m a fairly regular customer and enjoy these when I visit Newbo. ‘Monster Cookie’ is my favorite flavor.
I would have given these cupcakes a 5 star review, but on two separate occasions, I’ve found hair in my dessert. :(I’m not ashamed to admit I STILL ate the cupcakes because they are that.darn.good.
Go early; they tend to sell-​out, especially on weekends and holidays. You can place special orders online and they’ll have your treats ready to pick-​up at the market.

Visited Newbo with a friend, but so SAD that I can’t take this place back to Chicago with me! Every time I go, I usually get one of each cupcake to take back to my family and every new and different cupcake we’ve tried has been UH-​mazing. Each one we’ve tried hasn’t failed us. You can have a go-​to Vanilla or Red Velvet or Chocolate, OR you could try the Carmel Latte, Apple Darlings, or even Bubble Gum and not be disappointed about this party in your mouth. If you can get there early, you’ll have a hard time choosing, but don’t procrastinate this visit because they sell out every time.

Great cupcakes; Beautifully presented and I love all of the ‘staples’ and the ‘unique’ ones. All very yummy. With them consistently selling out I feel their time will be limited to the size and space of New Bo unless they branch out to an actual storefront. One complaint from one of my times arriving at 8am to have the biggest variety and found half of them hadn’t been made/​put out on display– had to wait and only so many times I can round all the other great businesses. I guess I will need to figure out how to time this one out.

Do you like cupcakes… that have bacon on them? That was a real thing. That’s not to say that those are the standard fare at That One Cupcake Place, but the fact is that these lovely people love to experiment, and their experiments are not hideous monsters but excellent advancement of FOOD SCIENCE.
Over the past few months that the NewBo market has been open, I have had a rather large amount of cupcakes from That One Cupcake Place. My favorite has probably been an apple cider cinnamon cupcake, but I have never had a bad cupcake experience here, and I doubt I ever will. Each cupcake looks like it has been perfectly sculpted in some sort of perfect cupcake mold.
They almost always sell out of cupcakes by the end of the day. This is because rabid cupcake fans know to stop by the cupcake shop first, even though it’s in the back right corner from the entrance. They’re a hit with large orders, too. If I could possibly have a complaint about this shop it’s that they do not have enough capacity to make more cupcakes for the cupcake-​devouring citizens of Iowa.
The owners are also the sweetest people you will ever meet, pun-​intended. Overall, if you have a sweet-​tooth and are planning on checking out the Market, I would make this your first stop so you have a delicious dessert for your meal.

What a gem to find in Cedar Rapids! The cupcakes are beautifully decorated and taste wonderful. We had the bacon one — very tasty and unexpected. We also tried the lemon raspberry. I love chocolate but I have to say the lemon raspberry was sweet and refreshing.
The display of cupcakes is gorgeous and makes it very easy to know what you are getting. Price is good compared to many places we have tried.
The location in NewBo Market is a perfect match! My only complaint would be the limited hours the market is open at this point. We could have spent the entire day at the market with all the food/​drink/​entertainment options available.
