HAVEAGAIN: The ribs were outstanding and worthy of 5 stars, but the BBQ sauce was just OK. The hot links were also very good, not too spicy. Delicious Jo Jo potatoes and good BBQ beans. NOTHAVEAGAIN: The beef brisket was dry and not tasty. The pulled pork also was tasteless. NEXTTIMS: Have just a rack of the ribs. These ribs are really good.

Ordered the chicken fried steak and it’s not homemade. Perfectly shaped means that it’s frozen after processing. It was overdone, or the oil was very old. Had a powder-like gritty taste. The atmosphere was not pleasant and there was nothing noteworthy about the waitstaff.

We came here for lunch today with family in the area. Our table shared a full rack of ribs and I ordered the roasted chicken sandwich with fries. My chicken was dry and overcooked. The fries were frozen and then fried. There was nothing special about my meal and I would definitely not order this again. Also, I was not fond of their BBQ sauce. The ribs were phenomenal and my family raved about how much meat there was on each rib. Between four of them, they were unable to finish the rack. We had plenty for leftovers. All in all, I would return to order something new on the menu.

I felt inclined to leave this review after the completely unprofessional and flat out offensive statement from this restaurant’s manager. I had been here once before, and the food was«OK.» It’s one of those places you go to because there’s no other place on the east side open at the time. After presenting an official military ID w/date of birth and picture, a government issued CCW with picture and date of birth, I was denied ordering a beer, because it was quote: «Not a drivers license.» Mind you, we came in the night before and ordered drinks and ribs, no issues. Hell, I even spoke with what have been the owner outside of his restaurant a few days prior(or possibly a manager). You’d think maybe even face recognition would come in to play, in any case — the ID’s legally sufficed. After calling the manager to ask why I was denied(and very rudely so)(we left immediately at that point), he said and I QUOTE: ««You can review whatever the fuck you want, and put that in there too.» This manager refused to give me his name — This occurred Friday night 8÷14÷2015. I am leaving this review for what its worth. Possibly a forewarning not only for ID issues, but completely lack of any respect or politeness. It really is a shame, as we just moved here and would have possibly otherwise been regulars. Best of luck, but beware!

Discovered on Unilocal,using the Unilocal app, while driving on the scenic Tamarindo trail, enter places for lunch, filter by best match. Dis place came up… We knew we were having mexican for din-din so didn’t want to overdue it and figured BBQ would be a nice option. The problem is coming from Louisiana and eating BBQ there(and also Mississippi) my standards are pretty doggone high. The BBQ was pretty good /fine… I had the pulled pork. It was okay. The cole slaw was actually a little better IMO. It’s A-OK. Just didn’t have enough to ratchet it up a notch from that.

You’re in this little mountain town, Cedar Crest, and let’s be honest, there’s not a lot happening around here, am I right? I mean, the basics are here, I guess: groceries, a couple of cafes, a smattering of restaurants and shops. But for years and at the moment Cedar Crest remains something of a crest; elevation-wise it’s relatively the highest of townships in central New Mexico, but it doesn’t have the walkability or character of a ski town, or established mountain town, so it’s cusp-y, it’s getting there. Most of us locals are still waiting for it to be a destination. My experience at Ribs Hickory Pit was insanely limited, just lunch, but that sole hour warrants this plea to get out there, pronto. A word of caution to BBQ fans: you best love yo’self some smoke to love this food. The place is stanky smokey. You smell it before you walk in the door and seconds following, you’re going to be drenched in it. Your clothes, hair follicles, hell, your very exterior will be soaked in the ambient smoke in the air, and you’ll follow this up by ingesting that essence into your veins, your heart will pump that stuff through your blood. Thus, many hours or even days later, you’ll still taste it in your very being. Smack all that up with some serious BBQ sauce, and you won’t forget it. I never, ever expected good BBQ in this hobbled township. I was shocked and thrilled. And I absolutely loved the service. Straight up country hospitality, so, so solid.

Im from Kansas City, the birthplace of BBQ and I have to say Ribs is the best BBQ Ive ever had. The wings are unreal! They aren’t fried, they smoke them and then grill them. You’ve got to try the wings!

The only downside to living in the East Mountains is that there aren’t any good restaurants. Ribs exemplifies this problem. The worst thing on the menu are the BBQ items. Which is strange for a place called Ribs. Their meat is generally closer to room temperature than hot, it’s always dry, always tough, and they always try to cover up those shortcomings with way too much BBQ sauce. «Too much BBQ sauce, is that even a thing?» you ask. Yes, yes it is definitely a thing when the sauce itself is pretty meh. The sides taste like they came from a bag in the back of the freezer, which I’m pretty sure they do. The drinks are okay. And the owner only seems to hire really young, thin girls and then makes them wear short shorts. I guess that draws some people. I find it sexist and weird. Not being one to prejudge a place I’ve eaten at Ribs four times. It’s just bad.

Been traveling all day and was nice to find this BBQ place just outside of ABQ. They had a lively Friday night crowd and a really homey feeling, lots of locals. Our server, Charissa, was awesome. She has the most friendly smile and easily held conversations not only with us but with everyone. Lots of service not only from Charissa but from everyone. A+ on service. We are really picky about our BBQ and we weren’t expecting much… man were we surprised! We had the half combo platter which was perfect for 2. Awesome ribs, great pulled pork and mouth watering brisket. We are not crazy about hot links so they substituted more ribs… perfect. Another A+ for food. I liked the interior and the big smoker inside was fun to see. Another A for BBQ ambiance! We were camping at Hidden Valley RV and the 7 mile trip was well well worth it.

Great BBQ. Fish and chips are quite tasty. I even like the Ruben sandwich. But don’t think you’re going to order something light. They make a mean margarita, too, none of this sours mix trash that so many other restaurants make. The Gran Patron is a serious contender(using Gran Marnier instead of Cointreau, and using Patron añejo tequila instead of bottom shelf stuff).

I’m always looking to explore new places, and this place was open, so I went in. It advertises itself pretty heavily as a Barbecue place, so I went in for the dinner that has 4 different types of meat. All of the barbecue was delicious. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. They’re big on their beer selections, although I didn’t sample any when I went in. There’s something like 20+ on tap, though. Wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Food came out quickly, and was reasonably priced. Kind of a mountain lodge feel on the inside, with lots of booths by the big windows. If I came back here I think I’d maybe sit outside on the deck(no smoking) and enjoy a beer.

Average atmosphere. Average food, but that’s based on living in Texas and the BBQ available there(Houston, Austin, and Dallas). Better than average service for the area. Good value for both food and drink. There’s no other BBQ within 30 minutes. It’s popular with the locals.

I think Ribs is a pretty good place for BBQ. I’m not an expert, but both my wife and I think it tastes pretty good. Granted, I have had better BBQ in both Texas and South Carolina, but the fact that this is about 5 minutes away, makes it worth the trip. The brisket is pretty good, the ribs, pulled pork, and hot links are great. The also have a good selection of beers on tap, including some local brews. The appetizer to get for us are the Wagon Wheels and Plowshares(jalapeño disks and onions: breaded, fried, and served with ranch dressing). I would avoid anything on the menu that is not BBQ related. I’ve been disappointed the couple of times I’ve strayed away from their BBQ items. But you really can’t go wrong ordering anything that they prepare in their giant in-house smoker. Worth a visit.
