We were vacationing near by town and decided to explore the area which might interest our kids on a rainy day. Berry’s Saw Mill’s self-guided tour came up online search, and we decided to check out. We got lucky since the saw mill doesn’t operate everyday, but it was going to operate within an hour when we arrived one weekday. With hard hats we were offered at the front office, we were free to explore the place. Once the machine was working and a several crew were working busy cutting big lumbers, it’s an exciting site to witness for 7&9 year olds boys. We’ve never seen anything like this before. There is a platform bridge that’s higher than all the machineries/working spaces, so you will actually get to see how a big log rolled in and ended up with many pieces of 2 x 4s clearly. It’s a great place for kids who’s very curious of mechanics of a machinery. Even though it’s quite loud during the machine’s running, we felt the noise weren’t bother any of us. It may felt differently for others, so maybe bring your earmuffs or earplugs. You must call the saw mill office directly and inquire about when the mill is running before you head over since some weeks they don’t plan to run the machine at all. All the staffs we ran into were saying hellos to us and welcoming. It’s a working lumber store, so there were a lot of contractors in and out with their lumber orders. The ground is a huge place and overall I felt like it’s been here for 100s years, and historical site to visit. However, It’s not a tourist place, rather it’s an established local business where the owners kindly offer to open their doors for anyone who’s interested in seeing how their saw mill works. It’s a really special place in that sense. Of course, this is not a review of this business’ main object, rather a unique tour they offer for free. Nevertheless, I have gotten an impression that the folks who work there in the office & by the machines were beyond courteous and wonderful.
