When I drive down to Oregon this is most often the rest stop I’ll stop at. There is a designated dog area, with a very short trail for your dog to walk along on and a large patch of grass. Surprisingly, there are many travelers with their dogs who stop here, too. The bathrooms have many stalls and is usually pretty clean for the most part. There are some brochures here for nearby attractions but not much, and there are only two vending machines for beverages. There always seems to be a non-profit that sets up a table here at the rest stop, where they sell coffee and small pastries. Last time I came here it was the Lions Club from Kelso. This is a nice rest stop, which is convenient along I-5 en route to Oregon and southward.

Stopped here on our way back home from a day trip in Oregon. Huge parking lot, well lit and the bathrooms were as clean as you would expect. It had everything you would need including a couple of nice guys serving coffee and cookies for a donation.

The Toutle River Rest Area — Northbound is worthwhile. Washington provides plenty of rest stops along the highway, and even better — they can have some beautiful nature surrounding them. There are multiple restrooms, a water fountain and lots of brochures about the local scene. Infinite parking, a little exaggeration here and there, is offered. I went here when a relative needed to use the restroom. It is advisable to get inexpensive snacks at any old Fred Meyer, or elsewhere, before stopping at this rest stop. The snack window was unstaffed, but this place is a major convenience on the macro picture. Good job Washington.

Castle Rock, WA: Surrounded by beautiful evergreen trees A revitalizing rest stop. Lots of trees, some covered picnic tables, paved walking paths good for two and four legged patrons. A volunteer group offers free coffee. Lots of parking for four and eighteen wheeled vehicles. Located between the Cowlitz and Toutle Rivers. The northbound twin of this MP54 Rest Stop has a more forested setting, as their walking paths takes you through a mini forest setting.

We got here around 4am and I was dead tired. Me and my wife had planned this mini getaway doing a long drive from Roseville Ca to Olympia Wa. This was the 4th of July weekend and I expected some travelers resting on this rest area. We had plans to tackle later on the day to go to mount at Helens national monument and mount rainier national park and check in to our hotel after. I have to catch some needed shut eye even for a few hours. When we got here, there were a couple that was smoking and it was pretty dark. There were plenty of cars parked and I assumed that these people are resting for a few hours just like us. I was with my wife, although she had some few hours sleep while I drove for closer to 9 hours, it is not the same as sleeping at home. She pretty tired also. The rest area was pretty clean and spacey… It was kept in good shape, lawn was kept up and the landscape wS beautiful. Like the state of Washington, there were lots of trees around. We washed up and brushed our teeth and I got a pretty good power nap for couple of hours. When I woke up I sad how nice this rest area was. It was pretty well kept.

Nice rest stop. Too bad there’s beggars that are here every time. I came through on the way there and back from my trip… same beggars, different story. Skinny dude and large girl with blonde with brown roots. Sometimes she has a dog. Do us all a favor and dont give them anything so it can be a peaceful rest stop again…

This is a convenient rest stop right off I-5. There were a couple of restroom buildings and the one that was open when I visited was decently clean and had ample supplies. There was also free coffee offered by a nonprofit group. The forest surrounding the rest area is beautiful and I love that the picnic tables are convenient to sit at and enjoy the scenery during a break from a long drive.

If not for the buzzing freeway traffic 150 feet away, you’d think you were amongst nature deep in the forest. Picnic tables are nestled among the trees, seemingly ample parking for an under-utilized spot — though flip side, Oregon does offer rest stops every 35 – 45 or so miles to California’s 60 – 150 mile stretches.

It’s your typical rest stop. The restrooms were pretty clean and there was a booth that was giving away coffee which is always a nice touch.

Ample parking and picnic tables are available if travelling through with food on the go. This location always has friendly volunteers who serve cookies and hot beverages to keep your energy levels peaked while on the long stretches of Interstate 5.
