Our refrigerator recently decided to start freezing the fresh food. We gave the original vendor, Southeast Steel, a call to see who they recommend, and they referred us to SIMCO.
Since it would take a week to get the necessary part in stock, he gave us a tip — place a cereal box in the fridge where it could block the vent coming from the freezer. This slowed the entry of cold air into the fresh compartments. (And this mostly worked, only things on the top shelf or two remained frozen.
When the part did come in, the repair was quick and efficient. (He was about 30 minutes later than he had advised, but since we’re about an hour from his home base on a good day, I wasn’t put off by this.) The repair itself took perhaps 20 – 30 minutes at best, and he didn’t even need to unplug the refrigerator.
Where he went above and beyond was in pointing out the components he replaced, what they did, and their individual costs. He also mentioned that he’d been at least somewhat involved in a design change to the part he replaced, making the issue we’d encountered less likely in the future. He also took the time to make some suggestions on keeping the front of the fridge looking clean. (Yeah, OK, I’m not the most fastidious on cleaning lime deposits from the water-​and-​ice dispenser. Oops.)
Much as I hope we won’t need these services again for quite some time, I’d call SIMCO back in a heartbeat.
