Very good chicken Massaman! They often have a coupon in your local mailer.

I was a little skeptical of this place at first. When I first walked in at around 6pm on a Friday evening, there were absolutely NO patrons inside. I later learned this was because they had just reopened for dinner — they close for a few hour as after lunch. Business picked up pretty quickly however. The restaurant itself is quaint and cozy, although much larger inside than it looks from the outside. The atmosphere and volume is calm, not extremely noisy. The tables are kind of close together but still not too close for comfort. The menu features a mix of different Asian cuisines. Spurprisigly, they have a children’s menue with food kids will actually eat. I ordered Chicken Pad Tai and a Crunchy Shrimp Roll. The sushi was phenomenal and the Pad Thai, although not the best I’ve had, was very tasty. I had intended to use a Groupon I had purchased specifically for this outing, as did a few others I was dining with, but we were unable to use more than one coupon per table. No bother, I’ll just use it next time because I definitely plan to return.

Folks have stated this is a great place. Was in the mood for some good Pad Thai. I was a bit chess falling when I asked for extra lime. My server let me know it was more work for him as lime was not prepared. I went with the flow of bottled lime. I would not recommend that to anyone. The beverage service was odd also. It was a cold evening and I ordered hot sake. Yea I know. But it was tasty and cut through the sweetness of the lime juice. When you order Hot Sake be prepared to wait. This tells me that the servers are not of age to serve(an older gentleman served in both cases), and/or it is not on tap. I ordered the chicken Pad Thai Hot as this is the dish I use to judge a Thai place. They did use both white and dark meat which was a welcome change. However the dark meat was not butchered with attention to details as I had crunchy tendons. The other noticeable thing was the Pad Thai was not even remotely mild let alone hot. The flavor was ok as in good but not great. More sweet notes. Which was odd with the extra lime juice(small saucer). I added some soy to reach a balance. If you get an itch for Pad Thai this may or may not scratch it.

Bigger inside than outside would indicate. Nice décor and extensive menu! I got drunken noodles with Chicken and it was delicious! The spring rolls were also yummy. My husband got one of the curry’s and it was very flavorful, not too spicy. Portions were very reasonable. I will come back

We have eaten here on a number of occasions. We have never been disappointed. The atmosphere is lovely, a nice quiet, romantic place to dine, with the sound of their water feature gently in the background. The service has always been superior. The food is out of this world. We have enjoyed the Pad Thai, the sauté seafood are great. My wife has tried something different each time we’re there. This last time it was the Massaman Curry Chicken. We have never had any complaints. A wonderful place to dine”… and easy on the wallet too. I could not recommend it more highly.

So I should have never stayed seated when I seen the sanitation grade. an 86. When we walked in and were seated there was a really bad rank smell, this being my first time really trying Thai food and all the different spices I thought maybe that was the smell. I ordered the shrimp pad Thai 3 peppers which is suppose to mean really spicy. Spicy it was, and that’s fine. Ended up taking my food home. I ate the rest of my food maybe an hour or so later, and it was about 30 minutes after that I suddenly became violently sick! Vomiting and diarrhea hit at the same time along with severe stomach cramps. It’s about 12 hours later and I still don’t feel good. I’m going to say this was a case of food poisoning maybe from the shrimp. I will never in my life eat here again! You can take your chances but I don’t like violently throwing up! Lesson: sanitation grades have a purpose! On good note… Waite staff was really nice!

Ok so at this point I would consider ourselves aficionados and cognoscenti when it comes to Thai food, and I have to say this little family run place is super great and very authentic. Penang curry and chicken cashew nut tasted exactly like it’s supposed to taste. And the service was awesome! The young Thai waiter(probably a family member) was great and extremely attentive. Everything tastes great and perfectly cooked! We will definitely be back soon!

Food wasn’t bad. I had the spicy fish, and it wasn’t spicy but the tastes were well balanced. They have a reallt nice Thai apetizer, I forget the name. Service is good.

Tom Yum soup was delicious(light and flavorful). I also had the Preston roll(my favorite) tuna crunch and tuna lovers roll. All of them were delicious. We will definitely be coming back; however, I think it’s a bit over priced.

I don’t understand some of the bad reviews for the sushi, yea it may not be the best I had in life, but it is decent quality, freshness and presentation… nice decorations inside, service is OK, a bit flat though the last couple of times. Better than other sushi I had in the area. The curries are not that good though, too oily an watery, not the milky/creamy taste I enjoy so much. why is it so hard to find a good Thai style curry in North Carolina?!? The Tom yum soup did not have enough flavor. The pad Thai was a good size portion though. The place will serve for my occasional Thai cravings, still looking for something more authentic …

I used to come here a lot when I lived in the area. Pad thai is pretty solid. I ordered the massaman curry and didn’t realize it contains walnuts or something, something I didn’t like, but now I know. I loved the green curry here though. Great yummy thai tea that is free when you check in! A little sweet, so make sure you mix it up well so the sweetness is diluted. I’ve tried their take on drunken noodles and it didn’t knock me off my feet or anything. The interior of the restaurant is dim and intimate. Great place for a nice dinner date. I thought the service was great, and would love to come back to try the sushi, since I am a little curious if a Thai place can excel at sushi as well.

Have you ever decided to cook a specific dish. You didn’t grow up in that culture, you don’t have all the exactly perfect ingredients, and you take some liberties with the recipe? That’s what seems like is going on at Thai Spices and Sushi(TS&S) because things don’t taste right. TS&S is nominally Thai food. But it’s not really Thai food. For example, their top three specials are Penang Curry, Massaman Curry, and Drunken Noodles. Penang curry is from Malaysia, renown for its«Peranakan» Chinese/Malay-style food. Massaman curry as from around Assam in Eastern India, which uses Tamarind juice, so is a mix of Indian and Thai influences. Drunken noodles is straight-up Chinese. And if you look at the their house curry, it’s got a bunch of ingredients you would never find in Thai food. And browsing down the menu, half would never be found in a restaurant in Thailand. My food was not bad, but the flavor was not right. Thai food is a fantastic mix of exotic herbs and aromatics that are amazing — the citrus from lemon grass, the sweet exotic zip of calamansi fruit, the umami from dried tiny prawns, earthy molasses-like palm sugar, the sweet pain from birds eye chillies. Nope. None of that. This seemed like Chinese food cooked with some Thai ingredients. I don’t understand other people’s praise for this place. Perhaps we arrived on an off night. I just don’t get it. Prices were a bit on the high side. Initial service was cordial, but somewhat nervous, and amateurish — presumably a new staff member. We were later serviced by the opposite — direct, sloppy, and apathetic. Not a big deal, but the non-professionalism showed me they aren’t trained. The tables were clean, but the staff use the other tables near the kitchen to snack, hang out, prep food, and do other things. So it is an unprofessional mess in the back when one has to go wash hands. Their sashimi/sushi is unremarkable to below-average. The sushi from Harris Teeter tastes better than theirs. Look, it’s central North Carolina, not Tokyo’s Tsujiki fish market. So, the less-than-supreme fish quality didn’t surprise me. What did surprise me was the 84.5 rating they got from the government as I was exiting. Yikes! Sorry, TS&S, but I will not return.

Please note, zero stars isn’t an option. I will say, the delivery person and the person that answered the phone were very nice — there’s the one star. The sushi. No. It isn’t sushi. The substance delivered could hardly be mistaken for sushi. I feel a tad sick after eating it. Yeah they deliver and they are close by some places but DONT eat it. Don’t get the sushi. Don’t.

Despite the language barrier and misunderstandings related to our orders, meaning there seemed to be a lot that went wrong with our order, I still came out liking the place. What went wrong and how it got resolved: The ladies at the table asked for limes with their water, instead they got lemons — upon further inquiry, we found out they didn’t have any limes, so they were able to provide a small soufflé of lime juice for my bride and her sister. I ordered SS5, I received the lunch S5 roll — I asked where the rest of my order was. Apparently I was misunderstood when I placed my order. To resolve it, some Sashimi was provided along with a bowl of rice, I was not charged for the SS5 and was given a little bit of a discount on the Sashimi. I asked for my rice to be boxed up to go — I think it got thrown out, no worries and no resolution here, I really didn’t need the carbs anyway. The owner/manager originally took our order, and I think the language barrier may have played a part in our comedy of errors. A server later followed up to get clarification after we started getting a little fussy about the mishaps. Regardless, the food was very good, although the spicy Thai basil chicken was not very spicy. The place is small, nicely decorated with an oriental theme. Looking forward to another visit.

This place is tucked away in a strip mall and has a very cool feel to it. We have come a few times and its never been terribly busy. The sushi is average and the thai food is really what you should come here for. The drunken noodles were ok and the coconut soup is fantastic. I also liked the Udon Pad Ke Mao. The chicken is usually a bit more tough because they use breast meat which may be preferred for some people but i like the thighs cause they are way more tender in a wok. The prices are reasonable and the staff is very friendly. Keep in mind they only do the lunch specials during the week which kinda of sucks because they are open on the weekends for lunch but its dinner menus only. The White Tuna app looks good so i think ill definitely get that next time.

As you can see from many of my reviews I frequent Thai spots wherever my travels take me. This place takes the cake. Whether it’s their red curry, green curry, or just plain tofu fried rice it’s all memorable. And from what my son says the chicken satay is also awesome. Do yourself a favor and try anything on the menu then write me and thank me on Unilocal. You’re welcome.
