Service was great, had a couple margaritas which were super strong and worth there money. I had the enchiladas which were all really great except for the bean. I just didn’t care much for the taste. The food came out in less then 10 minutes and our server was super attentive to our needs. Overall I would come here again. They run specials throughout the week and the food is priced fairly. The only negative for me was the one enchilada and that was my own opinion. It’s not anything that’s going to change your life, but the food and service are solid.

It is with great reserve that I find it necessary to change my review of Los Tres Magueyes on SW Maynard Rd in Cary. Our Family has a very long and personal relationship with this restaurant. Our first visit just after the birth of my Son in 1992, and going back at least twice a month since then. The time between visits became much greater for the past few years as we found the food becoming more and more commercial, and as a result; more bland. Upon our last visit, which was a bit earlier in the day, with more natural light filling the dining area, we decided that we would probably not return. The place was grungy. While waiting for our food, I studied the interior and noticed that the windows and sills, and walls were in dire need of cleaning. The ceiling tiles were the originals and badly needed replacing. Sadly, the Owners have found it more convenient to hoard the profits and not re-invest any money, other than the new seating that was installed a few years back. So, sadly, we say goodbye to an old friend. But fortunately, found a new friend. We visited the La Rancherita in Apex, and it was Wonderful! But that’s another Story to be told…

Wow, I have always said that Los tres is my favorite Mexican place until today. It is my birthday and I talked up the quality and quantity of food. Our server didn’t know what dishes he brought out. I’m sure that he got my order wrong, and he couldn’t even bring me a the right beer(asked for a xx he brought a corona) perhaps he mistook me for some gringo that didn’t know a chalupa from a side taco, but hey I certainly won’t be returning to this location.

I’ve been going here for many years. My fave is the dinner quesadilla with grilled chicken, avacado slices, and jalapeño. My son loves the soft taco, and it is huge! It us d to bother me there is barely room to walk, or sit in most booths, but there is a booth near the register side door, you can scoot the booth out some. Please don’t let the fast pace turn you off, I’d rather have hard working staff and excellent food, than perfectly ego-stroking staff and bad food. You do need to pay at the register, which I always forget. They do not have pupusas, you have to go down Maynard for those. I LOVE this place!!!

I’ve eaten here several times over the years. My favorite is their salsa. it has the right amount of heat for me. Service is always consistently good. I’ve never ordered anything different from here. its always #26.a beef burrito, chicken quesadilla, rice. Nothing special. its always hot and flavorful. The food is inexpensive. My only complaint is that our sever last night did act as if he was scared to death of us. dude get a hold of yourself.

Had a solid meal here with some friends. My one buddy was delighted by the drink special, something like $ 1 /drafts of ‘Murican beer(and I ain’t talking about American craft beer). Anyhoo, the décor is wonderful and bright, the customer service was great, and, like I said, the food was good.

Best Mexican in Raleigh area and also my fav location of Los tres magueyes. I have been to some of the other locations and it’s just not the same. The Jalisco special is my fave with shrimp and chicken in a spicy BBQ sauce. Also love the staff at this one they always remember my boyfriend and I. Cheese dip and guac are a must have with the warm chips!

We got a coupon for Los Tres Magueyes with our shopping, and decided to go ahead and try it. These are my thoughts. 1. The décor is loud but charming, in a bizarre kind of way. 2. There is no drinks menu, so you have no way to estimate the cost, size, or contents of each drink. 3. The Pina Colada is massive. There was more than enough alcohol in this, but whatever form the coconut took it left a strange and slightly unpleasant aftertaste. My waiter seemed troubled that I did not finish the drink, and I was touched by his concern, and did not want to tell him that it was not my favourite Pina Colada. 4. The staff is really nice here, and even if the food and drinks are not great, you don’t want to hurt their feelings. 5. The chips are not the best, and could be crisper/fresher. 6. The salsa verde is excellent. 7. The Chori Pollo Taco is tasty enough, if you eat it right then. The sides that come with it are not. 8. Stay away from the black beans. Boring. Specially when someone else at the table might get refried beans with their order– much tastier, but also a greasebomb. 9. The Beef Taco was also acceptable. 10. I am not wowed by the experience, but the prices are acceptable, the portions large, and the service courteous.

It’s the real deal here! The Polla a la Crema is the thing to get. Sour cream based without being too tart, it’s a savory yes with the refried beans and rice. Ask for the green sauce made of tomatillo and maybe some Corona to put in the sauce if you fancy a beer. The new sauce will be amazing! Great service and feels very friendly each time consistently!

My boyfriend and I have enjoyed the Morrisville location, but our two experiences with the food at the Cary location have been so mediocre that we’ve decided we’ll drive a bit further in the future. That’s unfortunate, since the Cary location is so close to our house that we could walk there! No sour cream or cheese comes with fajitas, which I find pretty ridiculous since providing at least one of those(if not both) is pretty standard in the other Mexican restaurants I’ve been to. I haven’t experience this issue at the Morrisville location. When I mentioned it at the Cary one, they said I’d have to pay extra. The taste of the veggie fajitas themselves was fine, though nothing special. Tonight my boyfriend got the chicken fajitas and also thought those were nothing special. Tonight I got Tacos de Camaron(shrimp tacos), which comes with rice and«salad». Salad = shredded lettuce, shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, a bit of cheese on top, and a measly avocado slice. No dressing, no sour cream, nothing to give it any flavor. The shrimp tacos are literally four rather dry shrimp in a tortilla, with nothing else in it. I stuffed the«salad» into the tacos for filling, but again, without sour cream or something else flavorful, it was just dry stuff wrapped in a tortilla. Very disappointing and flavorless. The service is good and the prices are very affordable here, but it just doesn’t make up for the lousy, unimpressive food! Mexican like this is generally cheap anywhere you go, so with so many similar options around the area, I wouldn’t suggest wasting your time at the Cary location of Los Tres Magueyes.

I was served refried beans(frijoles) that were a light shade of gray. They didn’t taste like much of anything either. The friendly wait staff offered to bring me more beans — but then they, and I, laughed about bringing me a big bowl of gray frijoles. Come on Amigos — you can do better on frijoles — geezzz… they cost pennies to make.

My fiancé ordered a vegetarian burrito they brought her a shrimp quesadilla and insisted that’s what she ordered. I heard her order the burrito. Terrible service! Food was nothing special. There are much better Mexican restaurants in Cary and Raleigh. My favorite is Rancho Grande. Authentic no frills but great food

Decent Mexican food. Don’t expect good service. The waitress was below average when it came to customer service. Asked twice for beans and rice right away for a hungry baby… baby ate LAST!!! AND was handed a piping HOT plate and streaming hot food… the baby is 16 months! I obviously grabbed the streaming hot rice, beans and plate from him before he touched it. She never came back to refill drinks or ask how our food was.

I have been coming here for years and figured I wanted to give them their deserved 5 stars. The quality has never waned in all the years I have been here. I’ve had the burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, and just about everything on the menu and its all amazing. My personal favorite is their enchiladas with the standard red sauce. The shredded chicken is tender and bursting with flavor. The red sauce is delicious and one of the best enchilada sauces I’ve tasted anywhere. The Mexican rice. Oh man, that is easily the best part of coming to Los Tres and its something I’ve tried to emulate at home with little success. Their rice is seasoned well, never overcooked and when mixed with the enchilada sauce, its Mexican greatness in a bite. If there is one item that isn’t up to the standard of everything else on the menu, it would be the tacos. Not because of the flavor, but rather because one side always ends up soggy when you go to eat it so it doesn’t have the crunch you’re hoping for. Flavor wise the tacos still are good, but the texture is a miss. The margaritas here are not too sweet and they can make them extra strong for you on request. Service is always awesome, and if you go even a few times, the waiters all are quick to remember your face. Prices are extremely affordable. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Triangle and has been for years.

I stopped for lunch after 1:00 so wasn’t crowded. I walked up to the door and a little skeptical because it looks like it needs a good scrubbing. Anyway went inside and was seated immediately. Was given chips and salsa quickly and asked for drink order. Tea came quickly. This is when the wheels started to fall off. They had like 4 waitresses and they were walking around and one was sitting where she could clearly see I was waiting to order. But it took over 6 mins for someone to come over. Once I ordered food came out in less than 5 mins. It was hot. I ordered the lunch chimichanga. It came with lettuce tomato and sour cream with refried beans which was nice. i would say that chicken chimichanga came covered with queso cheese. However I would say it feel like a authentic chimichanga. It was more like a enchilada with cheese sauce. I like my chimichanga deep fried and crunchy. It was good but not authentic. Won’t come here for real chimichanga. But if I want decent priced and decent tasting food I would come back.

I am a Tex-Mex food connoisseur. I have eaten at «Mexican» restaurants in nearly every US city I have been to. I can tell how good the food will be based on the taste of the salsa with the free chips. So far, that method has been 95% accurate. The salsa was borderline ketchup, so I had an idea of the quality of food I would be served. The chips were good though. I ordered the Sincronizada for lunch, which I ate, so you would have never known I didn’t enjoy my lunch. However, the cheese was«American food product», the guacamole was canned and the chicken was typical of this type of establishment. The Sincronizada was just a chicken quesadilla. The menu advertises it with chopped avocado but it was definitely a scoop of canned guac. I never had a chance to try their Margaritas but maybe that would have improved my rating. Overall, I would skip this place and try something else, since there are always many choices to choose from.

Full review at: Once upon a time, I was trying to write a doctoral dissertation. And like many would-be writers before me, I chose a coffee shop to blankly stare at the screen of my Macbook Pro – Caribou Coffee in Cary. For almost a month, I drove down, found a seat in the store, spread out my research, and tried to think of an idea that would please my dissertation advisor(spoiler alert: none of them did). Across the street was Los Tres Magueyes. So a few months ago, a friend suggested dinner there on a Saturday night. Now here’s the thing about fat guys(gay«bear» types especially): we travel in packs – large, hairy sleuths. So imagine several fat guys walking into a restaurant with three tables and the rest of the seating as booths. The hostess wanted to put us in a corner booth… one that would have made me channel my inner Lilias Folan to slide into… and I was the smallest of the guys in the party. …So we went elsewhere for dinner. However, I wanted to get some fodder to write about. Since I’m trying to break out of patterns, I’ve learned about Urbanspoon’s «shake» feature. Imagine a fat man’s dream slot machine. Select an area of the city, select a genre, select a price range… and shake – random selections. I locked in for a one-dollar sign restaurant in Cary, and Los Tres Magueyes came up. Why not? The space is small and cramped. I wasn’t just having a bad memory from hunger when I went in yesterday. Seating is mostly booths, with a few free-standing tables. The décor…is colorful… if by «colorful» you mean that Disney World’s Enchanted Tiki Room and a Chi-Chi’s had a tacky baby. Mexican art blends with bright colors and parrots in a sensory assault that makes you wonder if there’s not LSD in the salsa. I was seated fast, and a waitress had a menu in front of me within moments of my arrival… as well as a demand for my order. I barely had time to look at the menu(much less find the lunch specials) before she wanted my order. After bartering for a moment of time, I settled in on the fajita burrito and turned my attention to the chips and salsa. When I do ethnic food, I try to use some kind of dish as a baseline – a means to compare restaurants fairly. With Mexican places, salsa(or if I’m looking to agitate my colon, queso) is usually my baseline. And I’ll give Los Tres Magueyes this – the salsa is decent. It’s largely a tomato purée with onions, cilantro, and spices, but at least it’s fresh and not the soupy, cooked stuff. The fajita burrito was also good. Obviously, the meat was pre cooked, to make lunch service faster, but the spicing was solid, and it didn’t taste like it was in a warmer all afternoon. They’re at least taking measures to keep it moist. The burrito is served«wet» style, with queso and a red sauce poured over it. The rice was average. There was a little hint of tomato and spices in it, but nothing special. At the same time, it wasn’t bad. I was about ready to order a tres leches cake when my waitress walked by with a fresh drink and my check. Before I could even order the cake, she walked out the door facing the street. So I waited… and waited… After five minutes, it was obvious that she wasn’t out on a smoke break, and my meal was over. Not a good way to conclude the experience. This was further compounded when the guy at the register acted like checking me out was a chore that interrupted him from other things. In spite of a lukewarm first impression, I went back to Los Tres Magueyes on a whim, and I’m largely ambivalent here. The food’s okay, the décor looks like a Mexican Willy Wonka film, but the human factor is just lacking. From my waitress leaving in mid-meal to the surly cashier, poor service just brings anything they could bring to the table.
