The crystal noodle salad is so wonderfully unique. Since moving away I’ve never had Thai food quite like The Basil, this place holds a spot in my heart. The staff makes you feel like family and the atmosphere is charming, intimate, but not stuffy or stuck up. You can bring a date or bring the family. Yum Yum Thai food!

Have to give this place 5 stars. The service was impeccable, the food was exquisite and the restaurant itself had a nice vibe going on inside. I ordered my fav dish; Panang Curry and the kaffir lime leaves were so fresh and left a very pleasant yet subtle taste in my mouth. Jasmine rice was done properly. My gf ordered the Pad Thai with shrimp and chicken and it was excellent! I am not a pad thai lover, I’ve never ordered it for myself and usually have just a taste of hers but today I wanted to eat her whole plate! It had a nice sweet flavor and the shrimp were done to perfection instead of rubbery like some places serve. All in all a nice night out with drinks and two entrees $ 50 including tip.

Still great! We had the curry bass special, it was great. Spicy Thai noodles were yum! Coconut soup is always amazingly good. Mango rolls were ok.

Great fresh food. Really good Pad See Ew and loads of friendly service. We stopped in with our 4 month old and had a great time. Fresh Mango rolls to start followed by a green Papaya salad and a few generously sized entrees in a relaxed and well attended setting was the perfect way to start off a vacation weekend.

My wife and I have visited The Basil on 2 different occasions within the last month and both were excellent from the personable quality service, to the extremely fresh and aromatic foods. We will definitely be back for dinner again soon. I recommend.

The Basil is a favorite of my family! We love TJ. It’s always so good to see him. Everything I’ve ever had here has been great and I’ve been coming here for years! It’s nice for dinner. But be prepared to spend some money because since everything is so good, you end up ordering too much and prices aren’t low. I especially love the Tom Kha Soup, Silver Noodle, and Panang Curry. My sister loves the Garlic Carson and Yellow Curry. We all love the sticky rice and mango. :) If you want to try this place out before you go for dinner, go for lunch! Lunch special prices are very reasonable. You get yummy soup, a side salad, a crispy sweet thing and a main dish of your choice. I like the pad thai for lunch. MMM Getting hungry!

Wonderful atmosphere, very pleasant staff. We chose this place for a birthday dinner and it did not disappoint! Started with crisp calamari with two sauces, then superb coconut chicken soup followed by three excellent sides. And they have a gorgeous rose coconut ice cream. Very pleased and happy we came here for dinner.

I had the pleasure of having dinner here on 3⁄3 with a bunch of AV enthusiasts at training. I have to say that this was the first time I’ve experienced«family style» Thai food. I mentioned that I was gluten free to my server in the beginning and he was more than accommodating with pointing out every dish that I can’t eat. Since I didn’t order a single thing I can’t tel you what plates we had but EVERYSINGLEITEMWASAMAZING!!! Great food, great service. My only complaint was lack of booze and only one type of saki that was lack luster. I still give them 5-stars because the food and service were just that good. Highly recommend!!!

My family kept raving about this place, so I decided to go with them. I ordered something that had shrimp in it and all I can remember is that the shrimp came out looking transparent(we all know what that means) so I mentioned it to the waitress and she kept insisting to fix it. The waitress and cook went back and fixed it but by then I really didn’t want to eat it. So I just asked if they can box it up. It was my first and only experience and it didn’t turn out as planned. My family still go here, I’m not saying its a bad place its just unfortunate that my dish wasn’t prepared.

Updated: Came back for dinner. We brought a couple from the Bay Area with is. I had the Chilean sea bass in Panang Curry with green Papaya Salad. Oh my! Can I just say this is my new favorite spot in CC. And my friends said its better than the Thai food they have in San Jose. Stopped in for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Lunch specials are served on a plate. I had green chicken curry and my husband had pork yellow curry. Served with a cup of cabbage soup for a starter. Then the cup of curry is plated with a side of green salad with peanut butter dressing, a cup of rice(I had brown) and a wonton. Perfect. Honestly the best Thai food I’ve had in a long time. This place has been a staple of Carson City for a long time. It deserves more attention. We will be back! See the photo I posted of my curry.

We went here based on a recommendation. It’s very nice inside, and the service was very friendly. The menu is pretty typical for most Thai restaurants I’ve been to, so I went for my usual basil fried rice. I was pretty surprised that they didn’t have anything on the menu about spice levels, and they didn’t ask me what I wanted. So when the food came, my spicy fried rice was mild. I was a little disappointed by that. All of the food was beautifully presented, particularly my companion’s Hawaiian fried rice that was in a hollowed out pineapple. All in all, the food was good, but I would have liked my spicy rice spicy(or at least to have been given the option).

Too bad so sad, i have to take some stars away after few times and this review from the last time experience and not getting better. This review was for my food that I ordered to go. It was a Tom Kha Gai /coconut soup. I was pretty dissapointed with it. It was not just that the taste was blend but it was also too thin or watery. The price for the food here was pretty high compare other Thai restaurant in Reno. Plus the portion way too small compare Thai restaurants with cheaper price in Reno with a very yummy taste. Well I knew this place is the only place in Carson is better than the other places but still I won’t go here just for padthai or soup if I could just drive to Reno and get more good taste, and good prices and very huge portion compare has to pay almost $ 15 for small portion with just so– so taste. But I guess if you’re one of only two places in town, I guess you can get with it(such as high price and so-so taste, smal portion but at least they don’t wash babies in their kitchen sink like the other one hahahaha)

TIP: Call ahead to book your table AND the mango rolls for your dinner! If you don’t, well… good luck with the rolls. We sill haven’t tried them. Our dinners so far: Sea bass coconut curry is amazing.(Special of the day). Topless Seafood is a MUST! A MUST! Spicy eggplant is… not that spicy but great. Shrimp sweet curry dish(can’t remember the name, but they will know) is awesome. The charcoal chicken for starter is ok but small and too simple. But we love the peanut sauce and that’s a yummi plus! We love the family like vibe inside. The service is not super attentive in busy nights so be patient. We will be back again!

Loved this place! We came in off the street and were quickly seated and attending to. The place had a lovely aroma and everyone looked cozy and enjoying it. The staff was very polite and respectful, and very attentive. The food was delicious! We had a coconut soup and garlic Carson beef — it fed two adults with a big appetite! The very nice host also recommended the homemade coconut ice cream and fried bananas — YUM! Definitely a quality place, good price, nice atmosphere, and delicious food! We will definitely be back!

My colleagues and I often go to Carson City for work and one of our main lunch spots is The Basil Restaurant. The food and service is consistent, which is a major plus in my book. I have ordered several meals, but one of my fav’s is the chicken pad see eew noodles. The lunch specials are a great deal and worth stopping in. There have been a few times that I have even been able to share my lunch with a friend. They really do give a good amount of food! The atmosphere is great! They always have tables full, which speaks to the quality of the food. I also appreciate how pleasant the atmosphere is as you walk in and when you sit down at your table. The décor is lovely and beautifully arranged around the restaurant.

Enjoyed a multi-generational family dinner here. The décor is nice for a sit down meal(not a typical Thai takeout place), service is friendly and very on top of it. We had made a reservation and when we arrived we barely even walked in the door before they escorted us to the table already set up with a high chair. We really enjoyed the fresh mango rolls to start. Ordered the pad Thai, green chicken curry, ginger duck and teriyaki duck. Favorites were the curry and ginger duck. Wine selection is limited but very affordable, and they do offer the option to bring your own wine($ 9 corkage fee).

A year later I’m in town and stopped in again, this time I visited twice… once alone and another time with a small group. Great food, nice atmosphere and wonderful service every time. I look forward to my next trip to try more of the menu.

mmmm delicious food ahead To all you haters out there who says this ain’t 5 stars, I challenge you to open up a real restaurant in carson city, serve quality food, uphold quality service day-in-day-out. This place is probably the best food place I’ve seen everywhere in Carson city The food was really, really good. The plating was nice – pretty obvious they put effort into making every plate impeccable. I got the red curry, which was warm, not too spicy, and tasted authentic. The meals came with a free chip thing that’s I’ve never tried before, that’s dripped in some kind of sweet sauce – I normally don’t like to eat fried chips, but somehow that chip with the sweet sauce on top tasted Really good, like nothing I’ve tried before. We also got the tom yum soup, which again was spicy but not too spicy, had lots of ingredients, and tasted authentic! None of the random veggies or mu shu stuff being stuffed inside – the soup there was the real deal, as was other menu items The service was also great. The wait staff were dressed in traditional thai attire, and constantly walked around every table to make sure everyone’s water glass was full – tip top service. The décor inside was also very, very detailed, with lots of paintings, furniture, and antiques that looked like they belonged there and made the place feel authentic. They even gave everyone free soup the moment you sit down, before you order anything. The candy they give you with the bill at the end was also pretty classy – probably not expensive at all, but it wasn’t one of those random fortune cookie or mint bullshit. Even the little things you can tell they some thought into. How is it possible that such a place exists in carson city of all places? Definitely worth visiting carson city just to try this place out
