Awesome store. Really friendly staff. Townsend Bertram is my go to for outdoorsy stuff. Not to mention they have really awesome clothing & shoes. I’m so grateful that they’re right in downtown Carrboro only blocks away from home.

I was introduced to Keen shoes as a Father’s Day gift. I have never had a more comfortable pair of shoes on my feet. When you visit TB&C be prepared to be welcomed, helped and shown concern for your needs. browse awhile and you will find bout anything you need; an if not ask and the staff an they will try to help in your search.

Love everything about the store. Great selection, fabulous customer service. I had a problem with the quality of a sandal purchase, Charlie was wonderful. Returned the sandals via mail since my daughter no longer lives in the area, received cheerful full credit. Thanks Charlie! :)

Yo, the people who work here are super helpful and kind. Came in to purchase a new pair of Chaco hiking sandals. They asked for what reason, and when they heard what I had to say, they said that I didn’t need to buy new Chacos, I just needed to contact the company so they could fix them for a cheaper price than purchasing a new pair. Boom. I also needed to new laces for my falling-apart Desert Treks, and they offered me a nice, cheap pair of leather laces. Double-boom! This place is a gem, and so are the people who work here.

So, I just had an awesome experience at this place. Let me just say that in general i can’t stand shopping and am not exactly a very good consumer. However, i’m thru hiking the Appalachian Trail this year and needed a good amount of gear and didn’t want to go to a big box type outfitter. I won’t mention him by name because not everybody wants to have their name blasted into the cyber void, but the guy that helped me out at this place was exemplary. He had actually already thru hiked the AT, i could not have been more lucky. the level of customer service, product knowledge, honesty, and real world practicality was unmatched. the time he spent with me as we went through basically the entire store seeking and finding most everything on my list was invaluable. I have never had a more positive experience, and can not recommend this place enough.

I can’t believe I haven’t stumbled upon this store earlier. I found out about it from my daughter who said she had to have a pair of Toms shoes, which I also had not heard about. I asked her where these shoes were and she said her friends said right next to where Fleet Feet used to be; it’s called Town and Bertrude. Hmmm… Well, I wasn’t sure about the name but I did find it right where she said it would be. Very easy access behind the Carmill mall and next to Weaver Street Market. The store itself is filled to the gills with outdoor adventure sports gear but it was nicely laid out with a cool rustic feel to it. They have great brands there similar to REI but it a more relaxing environment. We headed back to the shoes and they had a great selection. My daughter found the shoes she wanted and I drooled over the Danskos, Keens, Borns and even some brands I hadn’t heard of. I was impressed by the selection. The guy that helped us was very nice and took his time helping my daughter and almost persuaded me to try on some shoes, but I knew I would walk out with a pair if I did. So next time! Great store in a great location. We are very lucky to have this in our community.

Because you can never own enough pairs of Keen’s, and it is way more fun to shop here than REI. Great, knowledgeable staff, who seem to take pains not being intimidating as some stores of this genre tend to be. They have a great kids section, and the layout of this place is fun to peruse. The prices are really competitive also.

I’ve had a run of bad luck with adventure sports stores lately, so I was a little hesitant to walk in here. After a long talk with my best friend, though, I realized that I was ready to be hurt again. So far, TB&C(that’s not tuberculosis and chlamydia, however much I might want it to be) has pleasantly surprised me. You’ve got a lot of stuff to work with here, all the way from baby clothes to sleeping bags to rock climbing instructional manuals. I was really impressed by the selection, especially compared to other, similar stores. The staff are surprisingly helpful and down to earth, as opposed to most adventure enthusiasts who look at you like a freak because you don’t spend weekends humping bighorns on the summit of K2, or whatever the hell it is. These guys are the good yuppies, friendly and knowledgeable. God bless America.

This is a great place for outdoor gear & equipment. I bought my first pair of rock climbing shoes from these guys. They were extremely helpful and highly knowledgeable about the shoes, pointers on climbing, great information for someone who’s a beginner and might need a little guidance. They even have a small version of an indoor climbing wall to try out your shoes on. All the goods are the best quality you can find close to Chapel Hill and in downtown Carrboro.
