SPCA for Monterey County Benefit Shop

I have been wanting to visit this thrift store in the BarnYard Shopping Center for quite some time. SPCA for Monterey County Benefit Shop was one of the larger of the thrift stores in the BarnYard Shopping Center. There is the usual offering of clothing, shoes, furniture, collectibles, jewelry, and quality items. I think when other reviewers complain about the higher costs what you may not realize that these type of «thrift stores» or «resale shops» edit many of the donations so there is not the junk piles that you may find at other types of stores.
The lay out was easy to navigate no clutter with each section clearly marked. When we entered the store we were greeted in a friendly manner. There were many people in the store during a Monday afternoon. As we browsed I took note of the nice merchandise but as with thrift store hunting it can be hit or miss but for me the thrill is in the hunt.
My husband spotted these beautiful mid century modern chairs that were made in Yugoslavia. We did some investigation online and found them to be quite the find commanding prices between $ 75.00 to $ 250.00 and upwards per chair. The price we paid? Well it can’t be beat at $ 22.00 for BOTH chairs SOLD! The chairs are in beautiful condition too! SCORE!
But where there is the joy of the find there can be heartbreak. I saw these prints that I was so excited about but alas the price was $ 250.00 way out of my budget! I might call them to inquire when their next 50% off sale might be. Apparently they have a email list where they can inform you of such upcoming sales! I neglected to put myself on the list but I should have. Perhaps I can inquire about being added to the email list over the phone!

Fun treasures to be found! This is my favorite in this shopping center and I’ve always happened upon a few things I must have. Last month I bought a nice antique drop leaf side table for $ 60. They have nice linens, furniture, clothes, books, etc. The inventory is constantly changing as the prices are fair and the items are varied. Worth checking out!

Of all the thrift shops in the BarnYard this is the best one. Excellent selection, I always find something I like. Aside from used items, the usually have brand new merchandise mixed in. Also if you sign up for their email newsletter they will inform you beforehand of any upcoming sales for maximum saving!

Wasn’t much there. Prices were good. But, I may have hit an off day for merchandise :(

I love shopping for bargains at benefit shops and this is one of the best!
They always have new stuff and it is generally high quality. The store is well organized and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. And they have regular sales!
Hard to beat.

This is one of those thrift stores I have to visit each time I travel back to CA. Dog friendly and proceeds go to a great cause. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They carry a wide variety of items and all seem to be in pretty good shape. The store is laid out in such a way that it is easy to shop — not overcrowded with overstuffed racks and easy to get around. Prices seem to be reasonable especially considering this is Carmel.
I usually tend to find a couple items each time I stop in and this last visit was no exception. I managed to find three rings I liked quite a bit and all fit perfectly. I liked the style of them (very vintage) and thought I was buying some very nice costume jewelry considering the price I was paying for them. Imagine my surprise when I discovered upon closer inspection at home that two of my rings were 14K gold and one was sterling. Great deal!

I absolutely love this shop! I usually come here just for their books, which are $ 1 for hardcovers and .25 for paperbacks. Can’t beat that! Plus half of the books look hardly used! Their other stuff is somewhat overpriced. But can’t blame them because they’re in Carmel. If you come for nothing else, at least check out the book section!

I can usually find a few things I want to buy here. This thrift store gets very nice jewelry in. Although, this thrift store has a tendency of being pricey. But then, this is Carmel where most stores charge more for items even thrift stores. Still, the S.P.C.A Thrift shop does have the occasional 50% off sale like they did yesterday when my family shopped there. It is fun to come there to shop just for the challenge to find something worthwhile to buy. But for my major thrift shopping, I prefer going to Goodwill, Salvation Army, Thrift Town and Savers.
Of course, all purchases are for a good cause. The money from purchases go toward helping animal shelters. This is a charity that I strongly support. This thrift store accepts donations but it is a small thrift store so I doubt they can store too many huge furniture items.
The S.P.C.A. thrift store as most stores in Carmel, welcome well-​behaved dogs into their store. If your dog has a tendency to bite and show other signs of aggressive behavior, it is never a good idea to take it into the stores with you. Even if you may warn people, children may try to pet your dog anyhow which can be a serious liability for the owner as well as the store.
Pros:

–nice helpful staff
–has some of the best bargain prices in comparison to other thrift shops in Carmel but still can be pricey
–nice selection of jewelry and books
Cons:
–can be pricey but still cheaper then the other thrift stores in the Barnyard area and Carmel overall
–most clothing for sale appear to be outdated and retro styles
–there is a lack of plus size clothing

Lovely ladies volunteer here and they love their job, they are so cute and passionate and very helpful! I went in to find wooden tennis rackets. no luck this time but I will be back very soon. This is the most well decorated (with the goods they are selling) thrift store that I have ever been to. They even high a special little corner room for highend woman’s apparel. Wish I knew about this shop sooner!

I went to this shop after reading an article about thrift shops in the AAA magazine. The quality of merchandise was better than a lot of thrift shops I’ve been to (i.e. not stained, torn, etc.). I found the clothing to be targeted toward an older, more professional crowd but none the less found a very nice Ralph Lauren sweater for $ 10. The prices are a bit high. I saw several other things that were nice but couldn’t imagine spending the money… it is a thrift store after all. I’ll be back and look forward to finding some other treasures. Maybe by then the prices will be a little cheaper. (hint, hint)

Every time I set foot in this store, I buy something. Even if it is just a few tennis balls for my dog. I have bought perfect antique hair clips, a beautiful platter…
And we will always come back. It isn’t jammed full with old stuff like some thrift stores. You can actually shop this place.
