Very nice place to eat, food is great, service is good, that’s my second time here over a year, I love to come here when there is someone that knows what to order. The only down side is the menu, if they add some photos that would’ve been amazing since, personally I’m not a knowledgeable person about fish kinds of looks so definitely some graphics would be amazing

Fish House Vera Cruz in the Village and the location in «Restaurant Row» in San Marcos is really my go too seafood place. I’ve been eating at this location since 2010 and have never had a bad meal. Fresh fish + terrific service and a nice ambiance = a great meal… always! Keep up the great work Fish House and I’ll be back.

First time visiting this restaurant, and I was disappointed that I had not discover the fish house sooner, order the lobster, and Cajon season shrimp, it was above my expectations, highly recommend eating here, but do it soon they will shut down within a week, changing ownership

So happy! The grilled sablefish(black cod) was the best fish I’ve had. From the east coast and living in AZ for 30+ years was so excited to find such great seafood. The potatoes and sourdough bread was also amazing!!!

Loved this place! Lobster for two is awesome! They just keep bringing bread! The home made bread and the shrimp cocktail were the bomb! I will keep coming back. Love love love!!!

Smelled like dirty diapers when my family and I walked in for birthday dinner. And on top of that we had the WORST server ever. Some server around 40 who said he’d been working at the«fish house for 14 years». He was so rude to my mom when she was asking a question. My mom used to serve at the fish house years ago and he was such a pompous a** when she was asking about the sides. I’ve been a server too and never in my life did I see such bad service. He like mocked her for about 5 minutes in front of the whole family. We got up and left when he was getting us our waters. We’re never going the Fish House Vera Cruz in Carlsbad again and I won’t recommend it to anyone.

A long long time ago this place was considered the best. But what have you done for me lately? The size of the fish is ridiculously small. The rest of the meal is nonexistent. The service is poor quality. The place smells bad at the entrance. What are they doing back there gutting week old fish?! Carlsbad needs to up the quality on the main road.

We tried this place based on a friend’s recommendation. Being first time visitors to Carlsbad. We all ordered different kinds of fishes. They were ok. I wouldn’t say great. They didn’t come cheap, so I expected a little more than what we got in terms of the quality of the food. They cooked the fish ok. Except for the tuna, which was dry. The other fishes(i.e. Monk, etc.) were juicier. The rice pilaf was good. And the dishes came in big serving. So it was filling. But I just thought that it was a bit pricey for the quality of food that we got. We also tried their crab cakes, which I found a little too mushy for my taste. The service was wonderful. And the causal ambiance was good for our family. We were a party of 10 with 4 toddlers. It’s an ok place for fish.

Forever faithful to the Fish House Vera Cruz Carlsbad. Consistently on point anytime of any day. Very intimate establishment making you feel more like part of the family in the Carlsbad location. Love the fresh fish counter. Love the open grill. Giving us the feeling of grilling the fish in our own backyard. Love my waitress Gina, wish her the best Thank you all for the Best fish around.

Always loved this place, but found out recently it’s going to be changing hands. It’s supposed to remain a seafood style restaurant. I recommend visiting while you still can. I’ve had many types of grilled fish here, always cooked perfectly and the prices are fair. Also, they sell cuts to go, the display is always packed with great looking catch

The food here was actually pretty good, they had a solid fish selection and the portions were generous. I had the halibut and shrimp skewer. The fish was cooked perfectly although the veggies were a bit soft for my taste. I think the one thing that rubbed we wrong was the décor. It has these cheese ball table clothes that look like cheap fabric and the waiters look like they belong in a breakfast diner. The décor of the walls in dark wood, multiple fish tanks, etc, which look like they are going for closer to fine dining. The inside was fighting itself between hokey and upscale. The food was good, the service was marginal and you can’t beat the location. I’ll be back for the food, but this décor needs a face lift!

Wish we could have reviewed the food. Confirmed with the hostess the time they quit seating customers(9:30 p.m.). An hour and a half late, we arrived at the restaurant at 9:15 behind another couple. Heard the hostess tell the couple they were closing early and wouldn’t be seating any more customers. Guess they won’t ever be seating us. This was the first time I had been turned away because a restaurant wasn’t busy enough. I am assuming fortune was smiling upon us.

From dinner rolls to dessert a smash hit. Friendly service, AWESOME seafood. The selection,(more like a wine menu but for fish) and quality(fresh and delicately prepared) of fish is incredible. Highly recommended the Sablefish aka butterfish. Prices are very moderate, atmosphere casual. As for service, our waitress made a recommendation because they were out of our first choice, which unfortunately led to a dry and fishy bass. She was gracious in offering another fish to replace it and the new order was out quickly.

We have been here few times in the past and the dishes have been pretty good. I would have given 4 stars. However, my niece had grilled sculpin and she ended up having diarrhea, stomach pain then constipation. We believe she had food poisoning from the fish! Luckily it only lasted about a day! I guess we won’t order sculpin any time soon!

So, who has heard of a chain restaurant that cannot give my mother salad with no dressing??? This restaurant advertises a «spring mix salad with lemon vinegarette dressing» as a side with the meal. My mother asked for no dressing but bleu cheese on the side. Know what the waitress AND the manager said? No. Unless we wanted to pay $ 3.50 extra. Hmmmmm I will never patronize this inflexible restaurant again. What about allergies? What about health conscious people? I guess if you can’t get with this reataurant’s program you are S.O.L. And it’s too bad cuz their fish is actually excellent. HEYFISHHOUSE… Learn what customer service is.

Our server Britney was very friendly. The hostess however was completely stoic and very standoffish and obviously did not like her job. We had originally come to Carlsbad today to visit the Australian grill but obviously that isn’t open anymore… We ordered the calamari strips which were okay and had a good taste, but in my opinion a little too chewy. The swordfish bacon burger was cooked delightfully and had great texture but I do wish it actually tasted more like bacon as the menu described. The atmosphere was very café like and the prices were pretty good for lunch. Overall it was a pretty good experience my boyfriend said his Cadillac margarita was very stiff which is never truly a bad thing! .

NOT a Mexican restaurant! 5⁄5 Fish restaurant!!! We walked by this place, thinking it was a taco and burrito shop, but luckily for us, some of us didn’t like the first choice and we wandered around like lost cats looking for a place to eat. We eventually settled on this place after seeing the menu and fish selection. That’s the key to this place: Fish selection. A fish lovers restaurant be this here place. Me rikey rikey! It’s one of those places where you can buy fish fresh«to go». They have a great selection of fish, so if you’re local, buy some and cook at home! The dining area is nice and service was EXCELLENT. Sourdough rolls with butter were awesome, I couldn’t help but fill up on it. The meals were excellent. The fishermans skewer was a really good size. I didn’t get it because I was told it was 8oz total but its a good selection and good sized kebabs. The bowl of chowder was good enough and big enough to share with four. I’m in love with this place. Great service, great food, and chill atmosphere. I’ll be back!

Wow… fish, fish, and fish. My boyfriend wanted some fish on our recent trip to San Marcos /Carlsad and this place definitely hit the spot. Not the fanciest place, not most gourmet, but damn they have a lot of fish. When you walk into restaurant, you’re hit with a display of fish that rivals any grocery store. They update their menu daily and it’s pages and pages long with all the fish for the day. They have soooo many options… as long as you’re in the mood for fish, you will be set.
