Stopped here on our way back from snorkeling. We felt like we hit the jackpot with island hospitality and delicious food! We ordered the beef teriyaki(very generous helping), kalua pork, spicy pork and chili cheese fries. All the meat was tender and flavorful. The macaroni salad with potatoes was simple but amazing. We loved the perfectly salted crinkle fries(soft on the inside, crispy on the outside), topped with homemade chili. Our family loved sitting outside under the canopies. Each table had a clean, brightly colored tablecloth that went with the beautiful tropical vegetation surrounding the establishment. We’d definitely come back to try some of their other offerings.

The fried chicken here is mind-blowing! It’s the best fried chicken I’ve had anywhere! Get the combo with the mac salad. For $ 10, you can’t beat two pieces of chicken plus two sides. I would have given a lower star because we waited over an hour after opening time and no one was there. Yes, we waited an hour because it was so good. I swear they put crack in their food. Any place else I will not wait an hour. I guess it’s true what they say about Hawaiian time. I suggest going after 1pm even though they open at 11am.

Omg best fried chicken ever! My sister was raving about how amazing it was so we stopped by today on our way to the beach. We got the Korean fried chicken. The dude was friendly and we didn’t wait too long for our food. When I took the first bite I was honestly in love. I’ve never tasted fried chicken like this before. I can’t even describe what it tastes like. I have to make a stop by this place again before I head back to Seattle. This fried chicken was just wow!

Freaken awesome! I stop by here before two step snorkeling & holy moly, it’s a needed stop. I was not even hungry. I ordered Korean BBQ chicken yummmmyyyy I think this is the best fried chicken on the island. Customer service was awesome also & price was super reasonable $ 8.50 for 2 piece chicken, rice & macaroni. It’s next to a mini market. I also ordered BBQ beef but that was alright :)

The food is good local fare(laulau, pork with cabbage, plate lunch) but it took a long time to come out and their grill was out of service so we had fewer options. Attached to a general store and plenty of outdoor shaded seating with a view of the ocean in the distance. The macaroni /potato salad was VERY mayo-coated, if that is something that bothers you. They do offer brown rice which is nice, and the meat serving is pretty big, but it was a really heavy meal. Not bad.

Came here for kalua pork — I think it actually has a different name, so it was a little hard to find. Service was quick & efficient, and the view from their little patio was pretty neat. The tables/chairs are a little on the wobbly side, though. Portions were huge of course, but it just didn’t really hit the spot the way I expected it to.

Small home style place with good local food. Price fair. good portions. Did not get to see the view, but able to get a funny pic of my daughter’s new friend. Had the Korean chicken, vey crisp chicken skin, moist inside, and nice light dipped in sweet sauce. Macaroni salad bit flat and teriyaki fries ok. Would like to have tried garlic fries.

Came here two years ago. Was looking for the yellow building. Drove right by as they have painted it red. Worth the drive! Great spot for a local breakfast

Decided to hit this local food venue up on our drive back to Kona from Miloli’i. Talk about a gem of a find. Great ocean view outdoor seating. Order your plates first then grab drinks(soft or hard) next door. The teriyaki beef is outstanding. The kalua pork just melts in your mouth. Great mac and potato salad too. Guy’s Grinds is ono. Definitely worth a stop on the Mamalahoa Highway.

Been here before and it was a five star meal. Today same dish. Friday night special of rib eye steak and scampi. But about ½ the food. And 3 less sides. A ball of white rice! 28.99 $. Left still hungry after eating every bite

We have been here for a week and finally had a good meal. Not just good but the best. Yes we are foodies but done with resort prices for decent food. Looking for the best meal on the island in a low key atmosphere, this is it. Right off the highway with some picnic tables. Had the spicy pork meal and the California spicy ahi bowl. Yum. My husband and I were both eating off of each other’s plates. So good. Grab a couple of beers from the liquor store next door. Check out the huge rosemary and pepper plants lining the courtyard area too.

Everyone must go here and order the Loco Moco, Korean Chicken and Ahi Tuna! You cannot vacation in the Big Island of Hawaii and not eat here. It is on the way back from the great snorkeling spot of Puuhonua o Honaunau Bay, so it’s perfect for a yummy lunch.

Friday night specials of NY Strip and Roast Pork and live Hawaiian music. Lots of locals gathering and very jovial and friendly, almost too friendly but just gel and enjoy it. The Roast Pork with Gravy, apple stuffing, potatoes and veggies was superb. Buy some beer at local market and watch music and views of sunset over Kona coast. Very special local experience.

Definitely a local place. Two ladies banter back and forth over your order verifying what you ordered is still available. All of our orders came out great except they came out one at a time. Don’t plan on eating as a group unless you order the same thing. They must have one small grill. Portion size for the price was good. What was also different is that you had to go to the store next store to get your drink. No big deal, guess they didn’t want to compete.

Stopped by here for lunch after a morning snorkel trip to two-step. Location is right along the highway so it is convenient to step for a bite. Beware though, there is a wait since the food is made to order. Wife and I ordered the Korean chicken and chili cheese fries. Korean chicken was excellent, nice and crispy and good sauce. Mac salad was above average as well. Fries were pretty good as well, but felt they could have used more cheese for my liking. Next time we might have to order two Korean chicken plates or maybe one Korean chicken and another plate lunch. Can’t wait to get back and try it again. I think they sell soft drinks, but they are also attached to a general store and you can buy a few beers to enjoy with you lunch. Definitely recommend trying if your in the area.

This is the best place to eat on the island, it’s unassuming off the side of the road, lots of locals eat there. When we arrived there was a lot of VOG so you can’t see the view but on any other day it would be amazing. Got the Korean Chicken and Ahi Tuna plates… This food was the best meals we have had so far on the island. If you could have an orgasm in your mouth and that orgasm had an orgasm, that might be an apt description of the taste of the food. Nothing fancy just good olé home cooking. Food was cheap(under $ 10) they don’t serve drinks so you get drinks from the guy in the convenience store next door(Chris) he has the cutest little dog(Molly) and you can get wine, liquor, beer(ice cold $ 2 pints — yes please!) sodas and juices too. It’s a little past Captain Cook town itself, but do yourself a favor and try it out. Also on some nights they have Prime Rib and Lobster tail dinners, and live local music. Aunty Gwen is going to be changing the name to «Wailapa Grill» so keep an eye out for it!
