My parents just bought a house in Canyon Lake, so we ventured there this past weekend. Startz Café was on my list of things to do because the ratings were so awesome for what seemed like such a «hole in the wall» type place! But, that is exactly what it is. A hidden treasure, to say the least. Saturday morning at 9AM, the place was pretty slow — not busy at all. However, the longer we stayed, the busier it got. Our waitress was awesome, extremely friendly and awesome with our kiddos. Without request, she even got our kids orders out immediately after we ordered them, so they didn’t have to wait for their food! We appreciated that! On to the food, it was absolutely delicious. And it came out extremely fast. I absolutely love this place, excited to come here more in the future!

Small town café that has been here since before the was a lake in canyon lake.(that is true) The food is great but not great for you but what the hell you only live once. I love the deep fried green beans. The staff great very friendly. The décor is just what you would think it should there is zero pretension to this place just really nice people who make comfort food for every one. They only take cash but their is an ATM right outside. parking sucks here but the place is a gold mine.

A pretty straight forward restaurant with helpful service and a pretty basic breakfast menu. Also went for lunch once but found the food to be lacking flavor. Service was friendly and there seems to be quite a few regulars. For breakfast it is an okay option — usually available tables and quick service.

Best breakfast ive had in a long time! I had the steak and eggs and the country fried steak has to be the best in central texas in my opinion. The big buttermilk biscuits covered in sausage gravy was tasty and filling. Much better than the ones we usually have a cracker barrel. Will definitely be back even though we live an hour from here.

Consistently good. Not fancy but everything I have tried or friends have gotten if top notch. The Chili Cheese Tots are worth making the trip. Great burgers, Mexican food, lunch specials, cold beer or wine but remember, they do not take credit cards. PLUS, my favorite, an old time Juke Box

I came in quietly, on my day off. Headed myself to the most out of the way table I could find, hey spring break ya know? I was treated respectfully. I ordered the migas. With hash browns and a side of refried beans. I AM grateful I found a seat just about 20 min prior the the rush of people charging in. My waitress Angela was amazing, she respected my desire to just sit and chill. Only downside, was a new girl picked up my plate of food when I had to walk outside to accept a very important phone call. They do have wireless service, however I appreciate the fact it doesn’t work to well. This establishment does not accept debit cards or any of the sort, however, three steps out the front door is an ATM machine. Oh yeah? The food? I GIVE It A 6ON A 1 to 10 scale.

Breakfast is the name of the game here. Fluffy, scratch-made biscuits, eggs made to order, they get hashbrowns right, and there’s a bottomless cup of coffee! The grits are creamy, the sausage gravy is worth the calories, and even the toast is something special alllllllll grilled(?) and buttered up. .. And it’s CHEEEEEEAP! It’s a local«dive» in a small town — there’s the table of old guys sitting in one corner talking local politics and teasing each other, there are the locals who wave and chit chat with each other as tables of 2, 3, 4, 5 come and go; and then there are the tourists who ‘weekend’ at the lake, come in from a long day of waterskiing or boating, and the ones who are just passing through. Don’t pass this little place up!

I have been here about 20 times. Specials are sometimes hard to get, they run out fast. The BBQ Brisket bun is incredible, I thought about licking the plate. The turkey and dressing is great. The chicken fried steak and baked potato are pretty good. Potato comes plain and dry, I thought that was odd I had to ask for cheese. The Ruben and patty melt are fantastic. Fried shrimp is Ok. Tater tots are very good. The salad is great very fresh. And they have very good ranch. Only female staff. They are all very friendly. It’s just like the sign says, it’s a step back in time. *CASHONLY* There is an atm outside.

I am white, but my girlfriend is not. I tell you that the people there should have taken a picture as it would have lasted longer. They stared so long and hard that my girlfriend was very uncomfortable. The saving grace was our waitress who was very friendly. My girlfriend said she would not have gone in by herself. I’m not to sure what most people expect from a small town café. I have eaten here my whole life because it’s my hometown. I have always loved it, mainly for breakfast. They have a fish fry every Friday, especially during lent if your Catholic. Their burgers are really good to! The staff is always friendly. Its a small place, nothing fancy at all. This place is always packed on weekends with locals and tourist. You can always find people of all different ages there. It’s definitely a hole in the wall place but I’ll always love it!

Obvisiouly, one of the other reviewers of this place must be used to eating off of silver platters while being fed by angels. I do not agree with their opinion. However, to each their own. Ok now on to my review. We ate here on a sunday morning to help the recovery of a lake house saturday. and it did the trick since there were 9 of us. I got to see a wide selection of meals. I had a cheeseburger with onion rings. The patty was handmade, the buns were placed in the burger grease and tasted great. real beef. I tell you what! The onion rings were perfect, they stayed together and stood a lot of ketchup with just the right crunch. The staff was friendly and everyone of all ages were dancing in their seats to the jukebox. They even invited us back for their St Patty’s Day Party. All in all good experience. Just remember people its a «greasy spoon» so set your expectations accordingly. This gets 3 out 5 camouflage hats… Get er done!

Old timer hangout with plain burgers and chickin fried steak, which is fine if that’s what ur lookin for. No frills, it’s just a place where the locals have met for years. The owners. The Startzs family made this little hamlit of Startzville Texas in 1935 with this Café and then country store. This Café could use a makeover to enhance the history.
