Went for dinner the other night. Really tasty, love their salsa, staff are super nice. Jan 24: They’re gone. We are very sad because we loved this place. It’s closed for good

My wife and I went for the first time about a month ago. Apparently they had just introduced a new menu. The food was phenomenal. I got the carinitas de puerco and the meat was just perfect– nice crisp on the pork, and it was tender on the inside. My wife got a three-meat(chicken, steak, chorizo) fajita platter. The chorizo was out of this world. Prices and service were solid. I would recommend this place to anyone.

I remember when this place was Margarita’s and it was packed on a Friday night. We had no trouble getting in last Friday night at 6:00. This was our first time there and were hoping we’d found a good Mexican restaurant close to home in Avon. I was mistaken. The restaurant looks good but was empty for a Friday night and lots of servers standing around. Even by the time we left, only 7 or 8 tables were being served. The server was attentive and brought us a bowl of nachos and salsa. The salsa was watery and not particularly piquant. I ordered a chicken burrito and my choices for sides were either fries or a salad. A little odd and since they didn’t have any fries, I ended up with salad. The burrito was large but not very tasty. The flour tortilla was doughy and too thick. The filling was mostly rice and didn’t seem to have any seasoning. My wife had a chili relleno that she said was tasty but nothing special. Interestingly, this came with refried beans and rice. All in all, nice atmosphere, mediocre food.

Service always fantastic. Staff are some of the most pleasant I’ve encountered. Food is first rate and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable. Authentic sangrias are to die for.

I feel guilty writing this because they were at least friendly. I needed to eat something and was in the area. My expectations were certainly not over the moon, but as I walked into this big empty dining room, I got the feeling I was doing an episode of Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen NIghtmares.(Biggest red flag is Mexican AND Italian). Anyway, the Fish Taco was overly breaded. I got the combo taco platter which was okay, but even the mediocre places I frequent were way better. One of the reasons was you could only get a pork taco as part of the«hardshell tortilla with iceberg lettuce and american cheese» part of the menu. Since, I only do cilantro and lime soft tortilas it was Carnitas, Steak and Chicken. The soup of the day resembled a Mexican New England Clam Chowder. Vegetables(carrots etc. were too crunchy to be in a soup). I’m not even from California(New York which is not even close to CA in terms of the quality of Mexican restaurants) but even I say they need to step it up a little to be on par with even crappy suburban Tex Mex joints.

Great staff, great food & wonderful fish tacos… Only thing I don’t like are their margaritas… wish they would not serve them in a small juice glass.

We so enjoyed the Dorados garlic bread with fresh avocado. The red pepper corn chowder was a treat. Each time we go we discover a new favorite

I came here for lunch. I ordered a pineapple soda which was the highlight of my meal. I also ordered a pork burrito which was really bad– like not edible bad. The servers were apologetic but it was a bad meal none-the-less. I can’t recommend this place. I’d rate them one star, but the service nets them two.

Well, this is maybe a little unfair as I hail from California, where Mexican food is plentiful, cheap and delicious. But, this was a below par experience for any restaurant I’ve been to, anywhere. You can look, I very rarely give a poor review. However, a number of problems here have led me to conclude that this is not a place you want to visit. First, the Italian aspect of it is pretty minor. There are a few little italian dishes but the décor, the staff and the food do not indicate that italian food is getting much attention here. That’s fine but I’d suggest that this place focus on doing one thing well and not attempt to also do Italian. Our party of 5 all ordered Mexican. Second, our drinks were dismal. My mother ended up sending back her dirty martini. There were chips of ice visibly floating in the drink. It was quite watered down and in the end, not even that cold. It had three tiny(not martini olives) olives. I tried it and while I’m not a very picky drinker, this was not worth drinking. My own margarita didn’t have the sweet and sour tang of lime that I“m used to. It was heavy on the tequila, a little watered down, and the salt was unevenly appied to the rim. Notably, they did have the courtesy to not charge us for the martini which I appreciate. Third, I thought the food was simply mediocre. We waited quite a while(35 minutes?) for our food, despite that fact that we were literally the only people in the dining room. None of our plates came out hot, although the waiter made a point of telling us not to touch them. A chili relleno was tepid, my enchiladas were warm but not hot. The beans were so so, and bland. The rice seemed undercooked and a little hard. The prices were high for food of this quality. A bright spot? The guacamole was amazing. They make it to order, in front of you, in a big mortar bowl. It looked and tasted amazing. I’d consider coming in for chips, guac and a drink, if the drinks were any good. Despite the great guac, a sweet, attentive service, this was not a good experience. I like to give the benefit of the doubt but I would not return here, even for a second try.

Had dinner here tonight with my family. The décor leaves a little to be desired. It’s a bit bland. I feel like they should paint or something. That said, it’s very clean and new-looking. Very nice and attentive wait staff. I got the trio of soft tacos, which I thought were delicious. My daughter got the kids’ quesadilla. She liked it. It was a small serving, and enough for her, but probably not enough for a kid with a bigger appetite(she’s 7). My husband got the portobello and penne dish and devoured it. It came with two yummy, super-hot dinner rolls. I had a glass of the white peach sangria, which was a little sweet, but still good. All in all, this was a great family restaurant(every party there had a kid. We were there around 6:00) with very good food and very nice waitstaff. We will definitely be back.

We LOVELOVE this restaurant. Delicious chef-prepared food that is very tasty and presented with care and art. We have loved everything we’ve ordered — soft tacos, tacos Dorados, burgers(for our toddler son) and quesadillas.

Just disappointed overall with our visit. Let’s start with the drinks: I like a spicy drink and spicy food.(And I’ve had several before as my prior reviews show). But the drink needs to be drinkable. And the jalapeño margarita was just way too hot to drink. When you need a glass of water after each sip, it’s just out of proportion. That said, my dining companion enjoyed her sangria margarita. Then the food. The chips are just a little off and WAY too salty. I like salty chips, but within reason.(See: Puerto Vallarta). The accompanying salsa was fine with a touch spiciness. But then the fish taco. What an absolute mess. The key with a fish taco is to let the FISH do the talking. But this is the complete opposite. Put it in a big flour tortilla, put some fish in it and BURY it with cream sauce that tastes more like mayo, and then add a ton of radish and other vegetables so drenched in sauce that you can’t even pick up the fish taco. Then you get two of them that you just can’t put in your mouth. My dining companion had the burrito which was fine. But you can get those nearly anywhere too and they’re all fine. We did like the fries. But not exactly what you expect at a mexican/italian place The kids got some pasta or quesadillas. They were ok too. They did offer kids sundaes for free on Sunday. Except that they were two tiny scoops of ice cream. No chocolate syrup or anything. Which is fine. But it’s not a sundae. Service was hit or miss. The water took forever to be refilled. And, well, I think I’ve said enough. I applaud the place for trying something new, but in doing Mexican & Italian, you would hope they could do one or both right. Instead, you’re left with a place that isn’t as good as the Mexican or Italian down the street. Bad? No. But, as the rating says, I’ve just experienced better. Meh.

I really love Mexican food and what this restaurant does with these two cultures! Though my husband and I did not branch out to the Italian dishes. The food in my first lunch and then our dinner was fresh, interesting and delicious. The staff has come a long way since the first few weeks. We found them friendly, efficient and proud of their food. From table side quacamole to the flan I indulged and great coffee, my meal was top notch. I saw three other dishes on the menu I can’t wait to go back and try. I appreciated the small dish of mole served because I just had to taste it too! I appreciated the attractive, clean décor, the background music and, again the high quality – not fast food style – of the Mexican dishes. I hope the greater community continues to hear about, support and enjoy this restaurant… I know I will! Sincerely Patty Cassella

Introduced two friends tonight. We all had a great time! They have a full bar now. Very interesting selections of Margaritas. Ordered their Taco Barbacoa and Steak Burrito. Both were very good. Waiter was perfect! Dessert was very good. Not disappointed. Highly recommended.

Tonight was my second time here. Both times I have ordered the Enchilada Suizas — Super good. You get two chicken, two cheese with a green verde and red sauce, re-fried beans and rice. Tacos Dorados was ordered twice as well and they are awesome. Little different then traditional tacos, more tostios style, but very good, full of chicken, or what ever meat ordered. Only thing that is frustrating a little is the salsa is really good and they give you a very small dish with it. The waiters all congregate around the fire place at the entrance of the restaurant when not waiting on customers and not attentive to filling the salsa in a timely manor when you run out. Had to ask a few times. Over all the food is fresh, legit drinks and the staff is super friendly. Look forward to returning

Three and a half would be right on. They are so new, there are lots of improvement opportunities, and I’ll be back to bump them to four if I can. Anyway, the owners unwrapped the restaurant just two days ago. Service was really good, our server(Michele) was super friendly and attentive and did a real good job keeping us informed about the progress of our food –and that leads me to one of Dorado’s real improvement opportunities. The kitchen was slow-real slow — 45 minutes slow. In fact, Michele refilled our chip basket two times as we patiently waited, How were the chips? Pretty good actually; not too salty, great corn taste, and very fresh. Weirdly, they were served in the smallest chip basket I have ever seen. Seriously– it was very small –check out the photo I took of my wife’s cell phone in the basket for scale. The salsa itself was quite thin, no chunks of tomato or onion or jalapenos, it tasted fine but had zero hotness to it– a definite 0 out of ten on the old zip factor scale. The salsa bowl was as proportionately small as the chip basket. Our dinner was an order of chicken quesadillas($ 10.95) and an order of soft tacos($ 13.95). I liked my tacos a lot –I went for the combo — one pork, one chicken and one beef. They were served with a small green salad and two types of salsa — a nice zippy salsa verde and a terrific brownish salsa identified as Salsa Mexicana. There is no liquor license yet, so its BYOB for now. Bottom line? The food was pretty good. The service was pretty good, but we did hear quite a lot of discussion from the servers about who is doing what in the dining room –that’s a training and growing pain issue. The kitchen is slow, and that has to improve. I wouldn’t want to be sitting there staring at my watch if I was headed to a movie. All in all, I had an enjoyable time here, largely in part to our server Michelle, whose friendly and light hearted demeanor really did the trick. A-OK is about right considering this is their third day in business.

Happened to hit this new spot for lunch 2 hours after it opened. First impressions are good — ordered soft taco and fajitas. Table side guac and an octopus salad. All were very fresh and delicious. Rice and beans were exceptional — beyond what you usually find in local Mexican restaurant. Like someone’s mamma Sita is in the kitchen. We are here before the liquor license so I cant report on the margaritas. Looking forward to coming back to try some of the Italian items but clearly this is Mexican first and foremost.
