Canoga School of Music

40+yr old Mom and Pop store for musical instruments and lessons. You cannot compare these guys to Sam Ash or Guitar Center when it comes to their merchandise. Their music teachers though are really excellent. They kept my child interested for at least 3 years now and throughout that time he has truly blossomed and has learned how to express himself through music. He’s even writing songs and he’s only in 6^th grade!
Great place for kids to learn the value of music– not only from having an outlet for healthy self expression and communication but also as a way to decompress from the stresses of middle school drama. My son gained a lot of confidence performing at a local café which Canoga Music arranges from time to time. He’s a much happier kid to be around when he gets to learn music from these guys. They really are pretty awesome. The 4 stars is because I wish they would have more performances for the kids to do. Other than that, they pretty much rock.

My son has been taking lessons here with Mike Schmidt for over 4 years. Started with piano, briefly on the guitar and more recently, drums. We credit Canoga Music for keeping him inspired to continue learning music throughout the years, and their knowledgeable teachers for making it fun and always progressing his skills. If you’re looking for a school with the image of the state of the art studio, this may not be for you– but if you’re looking for a place to learn from professional, down-​to-​earth teachers with real-​world experience, you’re not going to find a better place than this at any price.
In addition to Mike’s unique teaching style, my son has also gotten to perform live local shows with other students– which has been an amazing experience for him! If you are looking for a music school where you can feel at home, call them!

Ted is great. I bought an acoustic guitar which he shipped to me. After I played it for a few days, I decided I didn’t like the feel of. I sent it back and he helped me pick out a different maker, an Epiphone, which is now one of my favorite guitars. Ted took good care of me.

I have been sitting outside this music store to purchase reeds (?) for my daughter’s instrument. I got here at 10:30 because I didn’t know they are supposed to open at 12pm. I drove a long way, she needs them for a performance by 130pm, and it is NOW 12:38 and nobody in sight! It is 102 degrees outside and when I call I get a machine telling me the hours they are open. Its disgusting to see a business where owners don’t care that clients may be waiting for them to show up when it suits THEM!
