I began cycling about 6 years ago. That’s when I first decided to go to Holmes and make my first real bike purchase from a bike store. Over the last 6 years, I’ve personally purchased 6 bikes from their shop. My interest in cycling has grown from something to keep me fit to a full-blown passion. My bike purchases have ranged from less expensive hybrid bikes to very high-end race bikes. From the first time I entered the store 6 years ago to now, I have always been treated great. I have basically dealt with the same guys there since the beginning… J.C., Steve, Don, Al and Ray. When I make a bike purchase, I want someone who is going to work with me and take the time to answer my questions and provide sound advice. Sometimes it may take me several months to make a decision on a bike. This may include numerous test rides and visits to the shop. This can be somewhat of grueling process, but in the end; I have always been extremely pleased with my purchases and the customer services I received from Holmes. I must note too that service after the sale has been a very good experience form me also. I know after I make my purchase, I’m not going to be left hanging. If I have a problem or require any kind of repair or maintenance, I know I can go to these guys and it will be taken care of promptly and done right. I have steered many people towards Holmes for their bike needs. I would not do that if I didn’t trust them.

I had a different experience than many here. Dropped off a high end Trek to be repaired, we went through in detail the parts needed, and told it would be ready in two weeks. After two weeks, parts were not even ordered. I took it to World Cup. Their staff went above and beyond to bring the bike to showroom new condition. Maybe it just depends on who waits on you, but I’ve always had a better experience and vibe at World Cup.

Stopped by Holmes after work today thinking I would leave my wife’s road bike there for service(needed a 10-speed cassette). I was completely surprised to be on my way in twenty minutes with my wife’s bike and the new 10-speed cassette INSTALLED. THESEGUYSROCK!!! I work & live closer to other bike shops but Holmes Cycling is worth the drive every time.

Excellent customer service!!! I had a great experience today after being practically ignored at another bike shop(world something???) anyway. Please try this shop, you will not be disappointed.

I have purchased 2 bikes from them in the last few years. Every time I have been greeted and assisted as soon as I walked in the door. They have a great selection of bikes and accessories and willing to help with any questions. Ray and Jonathan have great knowledge and have helped me on both purchases. I will continue to give them my business with any other biking needs and I highly recommend them.

Best bike shop in the Harrisburg area, East or West shore. Having been going to «Pedal Pusher» several times I was looking for better run shop and quick customer service, at reasonable prices. Holmes is the only shop I can recomend, as they don’t overcharge too much, and have a quick turn around time for repairs. Some of the Pedal Pusher employees from my experience are a bunch of psudo«know it alls». Also beware of the reviews for this shop as I suspect they have many uninformed and biased positive ratings placed there by employees and other vested interests. Good luck, and try to learn how to do as many repairs yourself, as most are not beyond the reach of the average enthusiast.

Great experience. Stopped in a bike ride when I was having some trouble with my chain. They were super helpful and took the time right then to take a look at my bike and make some quick repairs for me. I read the other reviews; I’m a girl, and was there by myself, and found that the staff treated me just as they treated the guys there to pick up bikes. Everyone that worked there said hi or introduced themselves and chatted for a bit if they were free. While I was browsing waiting for my bike to be ready, I saw a nice range of Giant and Trek road bikes and a particularly sweet surly 29er. They also had a large selection of cruiser/hybrid bikes and MTBs. I watched them get someone set up for their first bike ‘kit,’ and the guy working with her was knowledgeable and reasonable. Oh, and the price for the work they did was extremely fair. Will be back for other work!

Great local store that is a good alternative to the big outdoor stores. Have been coming here about two years for my kids bikes, and finally bought my first bike from them in May 2013. They were helpful in making sure I selected the right bike for my usage. They have a good selection of bike brands across all categories(mtb, road, hybrid, etc .) They have been a great source for minor repair and service work. This is especially important for someone like me that is not a DIYer. Excellent customer service and reasonable prices. Love this store!

We just bought a kids’ bike there today, and they were quick to help and explain the bike styles to us, all while my daughter had a great time trying it out in the wide store aisles. When I said we’d take it, the sales rep asked, «Are you sure you don’t want to take it out first?» I appreciated that he wanted to make sure my daughter was happy with it, but I could tell she was already, so we just bought it.

Couldn’t ask anything more from a shop. They are conscious about your time and money. They care, that is the bottom line. I was interested in the Trek Madone 5.2 and the Giant Defy Advanced 1 and while I was test riding one they got the other bike ready for me to ride. How considerate. When one needs something bike related, this is the place to go. They even have stationary bikes too.

I hate to have to poorly review a place that sells so much of what I am interested in but I really had a terrible experience with customer service. May 19, 2012, I traveled 90 miles to the Harrisburg/Camp Hill/Carlisle area specifically for visiting a number of running and bicycle shops to do some hands on research and purchase refueling products. I walked into the impressive store and it took a while to find the products I was interested in, no employee greeted me nor asked if I needed assistance. Even though I was in full view of anyone working behind the desk or on the floor as I wandered around searching display racks. After I found the products I wanted more information about, I stood scrutinizing them and hoping for assistance but was ignored for so long that I eventually took a large arm load to the counter where an employee had been standing. During my entire visit, men with bikes had been occasionally coming in through the back entrance and were immediately helped out as they came in. This continued as no one reappeared behind the desk for some minutes. My husband, who was getting bored with waiting for me, and wandered in and stood beside/behind me near the register. It was then a man returned behind the counter, LOOKEDOVERMYHEAD and asked my husband(who had NO merchandise) how he could help him. My husband was shocked and mumbled that I was the one with questions and pointed to the products I held. I told the man that I was tired of being ignored and an invisible customer and returned the very visible products to the shelves. I needed to share this gender specific snub, I don’t care how great the products are, this is the service a plain, mature, woman athlete was given.

After a disastrous visit to my local bike shop(see my review on «Downhill from Here» in Palmyra, PA), I had little hope that this place would be any different. From what I’d seen and experienced in the past few days, it looked like I was dealing with two choices: Dick’s Sporting Goods — where the person«selling» me the bike also sells golf equipment, or… A local shop — where the«no newbies» attitudes seemed to permeate the staff. Stepped into Holmes, was greeted very warmly by JC… told him what I wanted, and that it had been 20 years since I had strapped on a pedal. He was VERY patient, knew each and every spec on the bikes he was recommending, and took the time to take each one out so I could see it. They didn’t have the exact frame I needed, so he offered to put one together(from inventory in the back) and have it ready the next morning. Came back the next day, took it for a test ride, and he was dead-on with his recommendation. Their credit card machine was down, so they had to «trust me» with my card number… the next morning, I had a receipt waiting in my email. Huge selection, great attitudes, helpful staff. Winning combo.

I have purchased five bikes and accessories from Holmes’ Cycling since 1996 and would do it all over again if given the chance save for one thing… I should have«bought up» on my road bike. But who knew that I would become so infatuated with riding, thank you very much Allen. My wife thinks that I love my bike more than her given the amount of riding over the years. If Allen & Co could have anticipated this love connection, they would have guided me to a road bike twice as expensive. Only then would I agree with my wife. But this review is about Holmes’ Cycling. If you are looking for any bike and want attentive service along with great products, get on your horse and head to Camp Hill immediately. These guys are low key and know their business! And if you’re a road biker, dare to dream a little and make an investment in something that will equate to your own love affair. Seriously, stroke a check and LOVE your ride! Allen, those Race Xlites are amazing!!!
