I’ve been here several times, including for my birthday. It’s nice because there is a DJ that comes in and plays music that I can dance to. Because after having 5 or 6 semi-expensive elderflower martini-like drinks in oh, about 1.5 to 2 hours, I want to DANCE. And then stumble out to get a cab easily so I can vomit all ladylike in my own bathroom.

I unfortunately never had the chance to eat here, but if their food is anything like their DJ on Friday & Saturday nights– it’s probably amazing! I am in LOVE with the old school hip hop the DJ spins on the weekends. Absolutely in love. From reading other posts– I’m guessing his name is DJ Incognito. Well, sir, you’re awesome. Keep up the good work.

Went here for the first time this past weekend, only to find out that they are closing the place and re-opening it as a bistro. Kind of bummed that I find a bar with great DJs right near my new apartment and they close right after I finally get to go there… I had a great time the one time I got to go to the Redline.

My first visit to Boston last year I met a friend here. I had the grilled salmon and she had the calamari. The grilled salmon and risotto was good! I don’t recall which mixed drinks I had, but they were good! Later in the night, there was a DJ and the place was full! Good spot to come to later in the evening if you are a dancer! And I agree with one of the other reviews — it does get very loud! But not as much as when we first arrived around 8:30P.M. Redline also accepts OpenTable reservations!

I heart DJ Incognito! If you’re looking for great music this is the place on Saturdays only. If you can’t hear the beat and you jump around to EVERY song, you know who you are or at least we know who you are, don’t come! I went there on a Friday and they play the same crap you hear all over Boston– top 40’s mixed with Bön Jovi for people who have ADD. DJ Incognito mixes great old school hip hop(before Bieber and all that Gaga crap). This was the only place in Boston where I heard NWA(sadly it was when the place was closing down, but still!) Unfortunately, since it’s in Harvard Square you will get your handful of «jumpers», but it’s Boston and you work with what you have. I would give this place 5 stars for DJ Incognito alone, but the crowd can be a hit or major miss.

Saturday night this place is awesome. Im definitely a fan. Its a little tight but the crowd is a great mix of people who know how to have fun. Drinks are reasonably price. I lost my $ 200 coat here and wasn’t even pissed, thats how much fun this place is. Tip; don’t bring your coat into any club, mine was stolen but by the end of the night you’re so sauced anyway that you’ll probably forget anything thats not on your body.

WWWWWWWWAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY tooooo looouuuuddd. I’m fun and all, but this place is obnoxiously loud when they’re playing music. You can’t have a conversation at all. I prefer a conversation to becoming deaf. If someone asked me to go there, I’d say«no thanks!» Or, «let’s go elsewhere.» And I’m fairly easy to please!

Call me a dummy but, when my friends mentioned Redline, I kept thinking we were meeting up at the Red Line. As in the public transporation line. I was pleasantly suprised when I was way off, and that instead were going out for drinks. Drinks turned into dancing. Anyone who knows me, knows that if there is sound, I will dance. That’s right sound, I don’t even need music. So it was fun, especially since there was a good mixture of people in there. Everyone seemed like they were having a good time. Except, for some minor/major weird moments. — my friend slipped on some broken glass. nothing a little first aid couldn’t fix in the bathroom — another friend was dancing and felt something on her. turns out it was someone’s blood. super ick/health hazard. I write these things and think to myself that it was seriously strange… but I wouldn’t cross Redline off my list just yet. Perhaps a second visit is required to truly make up my mind about this place… it’s probably because they won me over when they played 90’s hip-hop. There I said it. 90’s hip-hop can always save the day.

Not bad to start the night. The dancing gets awkward to say the list. Pretty hysterical actually. Sometiems the DJ is on point other times the DJ is as awkward as the dancing. The location is central to other bars in clubs in Harvard Sq. so you will want to venture further around 11:30pm. Still, it is a good place to get a drink and kick it before the dancing gets crazy.

Yes, you are viewing this correctly. I have indeed given Redline 4 stars after careful thought and consideration. It was not love at first sight. Upon my first venture into Harvard Square a year ago, Redline came to my attention as a seedy, rather depressing place next to the quaint poshness of its surroundings. Like all ever-lasting loves, though, our relationship began to blossom at a rate so gentle my heart was one day inexplicabley won over. At first I was reluctant to admit it, but now there is no denying: its primal, enthusiastically uninhibited soul has captured my interest during our tumultuous courtship. For that alone, I give it this rating. There is no pretentiousness here-only a communal desire to dance to strong percussion beats that can convert even someone such as myself to a hip-hop fan. I have never had a drink from here, so for the bar, my review is useless. However, what I can say is this: the friendly bouncers and soulful music makes Redline well worth the $ 5 cover charge. Just make sure you go with friends who will appreciate it. A word of warning — – Watch out for creepy guys that sneakily approach their victims from behind to go for the victorious grind(you know who you are). They are an unfortunate feature here, and in higher concentrations than other clubs in Boston. Because of this, my «douche”-dar has been tuned to perfection. I thought about removing a star just for that alone, but to be honest… my new-found super power has proven damn useful.

And now I remember why I get drunk at home before going out. The drinks were pretty expensive on top of a $ 10 cover charge. The location was nice, I have never been out at night in this area and it was a lot of fun. The Redline is not at all what I was expecting, it was slightly better than what I had thought, and it was fun, but I wish they would get rid of the slow hip hop crap and have more of a mix. The dance floor is tiny and definitely gets packed, but that wasn’t a bad thing really, however, I probably will never come here again, not my scenery. The bar staff was very attentive and fast. I love them.

Sat at the bar on trivia night. The drinks are good and reasonably priced. The bartender was a little slow getting to us, but once he did he was pretty attentive. The host of trivia night is hilarious. The crowd was kind of scarce when I went. Not sure if that’s typical.

This is kind of a standard cocktail lounge in Harvard Square. But it’s a place you end up going multiple times because there aren’t many options like it in the Square but also because they do everything decently well. I came here for a party. We were all seated in the back in a semi-private room, which was great. There were long tables and chairs against the walls and plenty of seating room. To be honest, it was a great set up for this party. I can’t speak to the price since I didn’t pay, but the drinks were pretty decent and standard, and the food fare was about the same. As one of the few options, it does the trick!

Redline is true to its namesake, you’ll be bumped into, talk to crazy people, and see a whole lot of hot messes. A swankier place than the inside of an actual redline train, its a nice restaurant that turns into a club by 11. That 10 – 11 transition is rough, the bar area gets cramped and the staff starts pulling chairs, so if you stand after 10pm your seat will be gone before you sit down again. But yeah, I don’t really like getting bumped into all night, so I wasn’t all about staying at this place, but hey it was a fun spot to check out, and they made me a nice bourbon(they used jack =() and diet, for $ 7 bucks.

Review in ref to bar scene on a saturday night. I started out with a 2, but because the drinks were cheap and good, I had to bump up for a 3. Its in a basement that gets rediculousily smelly and hot with mansweat and not the good kind(although I dont think there is necessarily a good kind for sweat) The crowd is full of overly cocky drunken meatheads dancing like apes all over the place without regard to which 100 pound girl they might knockdown even though the girl they are currently dancing with is trying to find her way out of their sight. The music was some bad old school 90s hip/hop? style. Its cheap though and the crowd is fairly decent in the beginning of the night, but I would bounce for some place better after your start-up drinks of the night.

This is a review of the food, which was actually quite good. I was surprised, knowing that people come here for drinks(my school organizes a weekly bar event there), so I didn’t have very very high expectations for Redline. We ordered the tomato caprese and the salmon, substituting their«house-cured» fries for the risotto. What is «house-cured?» Doesn’t matter — it was deeelishious. Super crispy, super fatty tasting, yummy. The caprese was surprisingly good too — lots of basil, melty cheese, and an olive tapenade. Just the right amount of salt. Both meals came with a small mesclun mix salad. My sandwich was $ 9 and the salmon $ 15 which is pretty good given the quality of food. I’d like to come back and try the nachos or their four cheese macaroni. The steak tip salad is also suppoesd to be very good.

Ate here on a Tuesday night. Harvard Square area was buzzing as usually, but Redline was empty. We sat at a booth and ordered a cocktail before dinner. Drinks were good. Got a burger, while my companion got a carne asada salad. Burger was well-made and satisfying. Their«house-cured» fries were fine. The salad looked and tasted more like salad with steak tips. But the salad was fresh and of good quality, and the steak tips were good. An odd stand-out: the nachos. They make their own marinated peppers, which are sweet and hot and incredibly delicious. I had to ask about them because I want them in my house at all times.

There’s something to be said about outstanding service… I don’t know what it is, beyond that it’s outstanding service. Redline pulled this off in droves. Full disclosure: I happen to help run a group of liberally-attuned post-work types that hang out and shoot the shit. We were throwing two large shindigs in honor of two debates known best as the 2nd and 3rd Presidential Debates, starring some guy from Illinois and some guy from Arizona.(Full full disclosure: Many of us like the guy from Illinois more :)) We decided to have debate watch parties for the second and third debates at Redline. We spoke with Tyler, the manager, who was nothing but helpful and encouraging with both the set-up, as well as getting some yummy finger food appetizers out for people. The staff was excellent, the acoustics were excellent for debate-watching, and we were able to get an incredibly large crowd into the establishment and make sure everything went through as planned. Drink prices are competitive with the area and surrounding bars. Sammie Light for $ 5, considering how much other places charge, isn’t terrible. Furthermore, the bartenders are attentive, and the staff is on top of things if there are any major issues(during our first party, someone dropped a glass. Elsewhere, this has just turned into people standing around. At Redline, they were right on top of it, making sure things were cleaned up and set.) Overall, this is a great place to use for an event. Food’s good, beer prices aren’t that bad, atmosphere is good, and the staff is nothing but great and helpful.

I didn’t eat. Just drank. And danced… all night. My Cape Codders were refreshing, as were the Red Headed Slut shots. What I really liked though, was the music. I don’t think I’ve danced to SWV or Salt N Peppa since the 8th grade. It’s always nice to be able to drunkenly sing along to the music as some guy you don’t know grinds up behind you… but it’s all good. Just bring a wing man, or woman and you’re all set. Keep in mind, the place is not super big and it gets very, very crowded. Not for the claustrophobic. Also, it’s hotter than hell in there so wear a tank top. Lots of different people. No need to dress up. Or go ahead if you really want to. A fun way to spend a Saturday night.
