Very good selection of apples! Some, like Molly Red, that I have never heard of. Caramel was too hard. The place was packed with families. We did not do petting zoo.

We have always loved this orchard — tradition. There is a decent selection of apple varieties. The caramel apples are as good as ever. The country store and exhibits have dwindled. The cashiers are not so knowledgeable. The mini-zoo has too many animals, in very confined cages or enclosures. One specific example: I see no need for a domestic raccoon to pace and paw nervously in a wooden box. The animals in small enclosures were pacing on bare ground. I would not take my grandchildren, they would be disturbed.

Great for apple picking, if you go during the right time in the season. Fun time roaming through the orchard, picking our own apples. The apple cider is amazing. They’ve also got home made doughnut holes, caramel apples and cider slushies. In the store, they have candles, candies, jellies, and sauces. Dougherty is known for their petting zoo, too. Admission is $ 1 and you can purchase an ice cream cone full of feed. It’s not exactly a «petting» zoo as most of the animals are caged and the ones that aren’t can bite. It’s small, the cages are very small and it’a mostly goats, chickens, turkeys, pigs, deer, guinea pigs, donkeys and a porcupine. If it bothers you to see animals in small enclosures, don’t go. If you do go, keep your fingers out of the cages! Those suckers bite!

My husband and I took our little boy to Dougherty Orchards last weekend to the petting zoo. As I said in my last review, it’s a really nice setup, except for some reason they have tiny cages for animals who aren’t exactly«pettable.» They have two arctic foxes cooped up in a corn crib, and a coati(kind of like a raccoon) in a tiny, dark cage. The poor thing was just pacing like crazy. It made me so sad that it was hard to enjoy the rest of our trip. I just don’t understand why they’d have these animals in such small enclosures — or even have them at all, since they’re not exactly petting zoo material. Oh, and maybe it’s too early in the season, but the apple situation was not looking so good(presumably due to the drought we had this summer). The yellow jackets did not get the memo, however.
