Great Steak & Cheese sub. Haven’t had one this good since I was back east. Cute little couple owns/runs it. Kitchen is spotless.

This was such a disappointment. There is a store in Simi that is decent. These people nickel and dime you. $ 1.00 to use the debit card, they had to get you your peppers… You see how this is going. I ordered a pastrami. What a joke. The sandwich had very little meat or other condiments. I basically ate a bread roll. I hate wasting a meal. I should have gone to Lombardos. They rock. Unfortunately my friend convinced me to go here. Go ahead and take a chance if you want. I’m done.

worst sandwich ever. The roll comprised 90% of the sandwich, little meat or onions. Will not be back

It’s a good tasting sandwich but for 9 dollars I expect more then 2 pieces of meat. When I went in to ask where my meat was there was 3 employees searching for it. After a minute or so we found our meat. They said it’s pre-portioned. Well pre-portion a little more or lower your prices

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – ESSENTIALTIPS&EXECUTIVESUMMARY: — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – # Housed inside the remnants of a Taco Bell long gone, Great Central presents itself as your neighborhood hot sandwich shop, a place where the locals go. You’ve got the old school menu boards with white lettering over black and the small shop feel. Unfortunately, that’s all that this eatery can deliver. The food was mediocre and the prices added salt to the wound. # Jean J. and I ordered one cheesesteak and fried zucchini sticks. I vaguely remember it coming out to be $ 10+, maybe around $ 13 – 14 in total. I hoped that both items would be decent, but they weren’t. # Not to say it was awful and inedible, the cheesesteak here is the worst version I’ve ever had. There was very little meat and no cheese at all. The«cheese» could have been cheap liquid cheese or mayo. There was also marinara or a tomato-based sauce inside the cheesesteak. I literally raised my eyebrow when I tasted that and knew that you couldn’t even call this a decent cheesesteak, if at all. You could tell the bread was stale too and that it only came back to life after being heated up. Stale bread that’s heated has a unique softness and«bounce» to it when you press on it. The sandwich was mediocre in all categories. # Next came the fried zucchini sticks. They were extremely brown, a sign they were overcooked in old vegetable oil, and hard. After took one clean bite, the entire zucchini piece came out of its breaded shell. It was like the zucchini was asking me to take me out of its fried home. This happened 4 – 5 times as I shared the fried zucchini with Jean and I had to wonder why I couldn’t get a single clean bite without the entire zuccihini piece snuggling out of its home. Come little green brothers and sisters. You can prematurely enter my mouth. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – MYEXPERIENCE: — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – What’s with Camarillo? I did a quick search on my phone and this is the best my Unilocal app could do? First, my friend and I tried a coffee shop about a few blocks away to get something light to eat before continuing our journey to Santa Barbara. Next, we peered inside a dumpy diner a few doors down and decided to pass. I thought Great Central Steak & Hoagie would be decent food to hold down our hunger because it was rated at 3 stars, neither bad or amazing. I could live with that since we only needed a quick snack to eat and go. I already provided details on the two items we got so I won’t outline them here, but one thing to point out is I get why there was no cheese in the cheesesteak. Cheese is the most expensive ingredient, even more than meat, according to a friend who happens to be in the pizza shop business. As much as I get that the owners are trying to save money so they can to remain in business, a cheesesteak needs cheese. And clearly, the fried zucchinis are a problem too, deep-fried in old oil only to be over-fried. I’m sure this place is struggling. At lunchtime on a Saturday afternoon, there were 2 or 3 other guys here aside from me and Jean. That’s not enough to sustain business so I get why the Korean owners(I know since I speak the language) are playing defensively and saving every penny they can. May I suggest they play offensively and offer better food? Only then can they attract more business to stay in business. By playing defensively, I feel that this restaurant will die a slow and imminent death. I really hope for the best for the restaurant as it is a small business that adds to the community. As a small business though, it has do its part to stay in business by offering a quality product. That’s the only way you can attract the dollars that vote it in to stay in Camarillo. Unfortunately, until I’m passing through Camarillo again and read improvements in the most recent Unilocal reviews, I will not be eating here again. Chances are that I never will since I rarely stop by this city.

Stopped here on the way to Ojai and grabbed lunch. I got the beef cheese steak and it was okay but nothing to write home about. My wife got the chicken cheese steak and couldn’t finish it. The fries were awesome. Solid grub but not impressive.

Had the BOMB steak and cheese with onions no sauce and it was delicious. The BOMB is double meat and cheese. It was hot and fresh and the melted cheese was awesome. The price is a tad high but it was delicious none the less. They have these peppers on the side that goes great with the sandwich.

The cheesteaks and french fries are solid here. The best philly cheesesteaks I’ve had outside of Philly. Go here hungry because you’ll leave here full and happy. And the owners are nice and friendly. Good place to eat if you’re visiting the outlets.

This place has gone down the drain… Not only are they charging more for their sandwiches, they’re putting less of everything in them. I hadn’t been here in a while and was really craving a good pepper steak. I had never been so disappointed in my life. I ordered a pepper steak and it was lacking in the steak, pepper, and onion department. About the only thing the same as before is the size of the bread. The amount of meat on this pathetic sandwich was probably about $ 0.50 worth of cheap meat(if that). I guess I have to go to the port hueneme location to get a decent one. I almost wanted to say something to the new owners but I figure what’s the point. Not coming back should let them know they’re not doing it right.

Ate a very satisfying bell pepper stuffed steak hoagie with the perfect amount of cheese. Home made fries from real potatoes rocked and the fried zucchinis are a must order.

Great hoagies! Had the Philly cheesesteak. Bomb! Piping hot, savory, and filling. Also, they have an assorted selection of peppers, which go great with the sandwiches(that is, if you have a predilection for the spicy like me). A sweet elderly couple works the grill. I love these mom-and-pop joints. I’d have this over Subway any day.

I went again last night. I feel bad for them. I went at 6:30, peak rush hour time, and the owner and his wife were reading the paper in back, bored. But they are really nice and jumped up to meet me. I ordered a couple chicken philly steaks. Bread was good, but a little plain. At least I saw they started with fresh chicken breasts. added peppers and onions and cheese. Could have used more sauce. Fries were ok, but I remember the chips being a lot better. I asked if they had a buffalo chicken cheesesteak. They said«No». But the way they said it was like they’ve been asked the question a thousand times. You need to have a buffalo chicken cheesesteak. If you can make it good, I’ll be there every week. I lived in Philly for too many years not to know what a good steak tastes like. Yo.

WORSTEXPERIENCEEVER! While the food and service was okay, I ended up getting food poisoning from the plain philly cheesesteak yesterday. We went there yesterday for lunch around 1:30. Jamie had the Chicken Philly and I ordered the Wiz Wit, oh and I wasn’t impressed with them using marinara sauce on my cheese steak. Around 5pm, I got home from work and immediately started praying to the porcelain gods. I did not have anything yesterday other than coffee and a banana, which I highly doubt caused my nausea. Here I am the next morning, all night I was in the bathroom every other hour ejecting my lunch and the 7-up I had for dinner.

After the disaster had at the Port Hueneme Location(see earlier review) — I was a little nervous to try another Great Central Steak & Hoagie. Some days you are jonesin for a cheesesteak and have to take the risk. I can say I am glad I did this time. I ordered their Mushroom Cheesesteak and a XL diet coke. I kept waiting for an «an den» from the lady at the counter but didn’t get it — she was awesome though. Their prices are tax included so $ 10 out the door — suhweet. They do have a few not so awesome practices though but you can get past them — some examples — charging for drink refills, and debit with a $ 1 fee(no credit cards). Also — I recommend taking your sandwich to go if possible. They restaurant has very little eat-in seating and the seats are the attached to the table variety. The steak was up in a few minutes and piping hot. The bread was soft(almost too soft), but tasty and the meat, cheese, mushrooms and onions were great. The sauce on the sandwich was good and in a good ratio. The do offer 3 kinds of pepper complimentary, which go well with the steak. So far this is the best cheesesteak I have found in Ventura county and I will head back next time the craving hits.

This place sucks now under the new ownership. Back a few years ago before the guy sold it to the asian couple who now own it, the food was really good. the prices have always been high, but at least there was some substance to the sandwich. now its just not worth the price. at least the one in Hueneme is still good.
