We have lived in Sonoma County for almost 2 years now, having moved from the San Fernando Valley. We had yet to find amazing Mexican food since moving up north. Until we vacationed in Calistoga this weekend and found Vallarta Market. I ordered two street tacos and my husband ordered the Super Burrito. We both went with half asada and half pastor. The pastor was good, but the asada is where it’s at! We’re going again today! The tacos were INSANELY amazing. No frills, takeout only(although we picnic’d in the parking lot), but the best! The grocery store was almost spotless. We will drive back from Santa Rosa just for this taqueria.

Great place! I would give it 5 stars if I could eat it here! Just to go! Very worth the stop!

Really? I’m confused by all of the great reviews. A so-so spot. Not very clean market and while the food tasted okay, it definitely wasn’t made with quality ingredients. My husband and I both felt heavy and uggh after eating. :(

The best tacos for those who like specialty meats such as head cheese, tongues, etc. Try the crispy pork meat, it’s to die for. The place is clean, take out only. I’m so glad that my hotel is near this place.

Great fresh food! My husband and I shared the super quesadilla with carnitas — superb!!! The carnitas was tender and perfectly seasoned and the fresh guacamole on the side was the perfect touch. 5 stars plus A+++. Would go out of my way the next time I visit from Colorado to have this cuisine again.

Had a great spicy ½ chicken ½ carne asada super burrito here from the taqueria in back. The people here were super friendly and the place was very very clean. This is a grocery store with a taqueria just to be clear — so no seating and you need to get it to go. They also have breakfast options.

Reopened after 3 months, this place got good food reviews but this is a corner market plucked straight out of Mexico minus the tables. Get your food to go as there’s nowhere here to eat

A real gem if you like fresh, fast and very tasty Mexican food this is the place to go while visiting this area. Forget the other restaurants in Calistoga that claim to serve Mexican food as this is better than any of them. Add a friendly staff, affordable prices and you can’t go wrong. I moved here from the Bay area a little over a year and a half ago, visit them at least once a week and have never been disappointed . At the present, April 2015 they are expanding and under construction so not serving food at the moment and I am having a serious Jones awaiting the return of their food preparation. I am missing my Jumbo carnitas burrito and their little tacos /to die for yummy, yummy stuff. Give them a try, you will not be disappointed.

There are a bunch of nice restaurants in downtown Calistoga but none of them compare. Best Mexican food I have ever had!!! Next time your in Calistoga skip the wineries and get a burrito from Vallarta Mart. You won’t regret it!!!

Tasteless street tacos. Except for an unpleasant aftertaste. Meat was dry. Could not even finish it.

This place was amazing! It’s such a hole in the wall but was recommended by one of the wineries. It’s just what we needed and you can take the food to the park on cedar Ave for a picnic. This was much needed after some wine tastings, thank you!

Amazing food… when they get the order right. I absolutely love their pollo asada burritos, but several times I have gone, they have messed up my order in one way or another. All I get a regular pollo asada burrito with no salsa, simple and delicious. However, they have given me carne asada, or a super burrito. It’s delicious, but not what I ordered! I’ve tried ordering in Spanish, English, but nothing seems to increase my chances of getting my order correct. I’ll continue to take the gamble and keep coming back because it’s so delicious. Be sure to order clearly and even double check that they have it right! I know I can’t be the only one for how often it happens to me.

Best fast food in Calistoga. They’ve got it all here. Quesadilla al pastor is the best.:)

One of my favorite weekly routines is to stop by this market for a great take out burrito, the food is great, the staff is friendly and fast, my favorite is the Chicken Super Burrito, always good for two meals.

Thought I was going to be the first to review this — but glad so many other’s had such a great experience. We too had short time for lunch — had an appt within an hour and knew a sit down wasn’t going to make it, and I saw a ton of city workers & cops going in and out with bags, when I saw the taqueria sign. We pulled in and OMG. Great mexican products selection. My husband loves a certain tamarindo candy and impossible to find — but it was there, let alone our meal. I went with the street tacos, pastor & asada, and my husband did a burrito. Delicious! We will be back every time we are in the area. So what that you eat in your car. Well worth it!

Pretty darn delicious burrito made in the back of a Mexican mercado. Got me an Al Pastor Burrito. Tender chunks of well marinated pork, but super greasy; red oil was running down my hands. Guac inside was AH-mazing! But, keep in mind it’s huge. El chef cut it in half for us without us asking. Shared with the hubby and it was a perfect lunch.

WOW… I thought I would never utter these words outta my mouth, but yes… authentic and absolutely DELICIOUS Mexican food in the Bay! And in Wine Country too for crying out loud! We made the yummiest mistake, well since it was so yummy it wasn’t that bad of a mistake of stopping into this teeny tiny market to see if we can grab something quick to eat in the car on our way back to our hotel from wine tasting(why I say mistake is because we had reservations about 3 hours later at the well-known and palette pleasing Tra Vigne in Saint Helena that night). There’s a guy in the back just cooking up tons of delicious meats for your tacos, burritos or whatever else that tickles your Mexicano tumtum craving. I had the chicken burrito and it was a HUGE belly bomb of a burrito let me tell ya! The rice and beans were cooked to perfection and I think I had some guacamole and sour cream in that bomb too. I was scarfing that thing down in the car and as we got closer to our hotel the food coma started to set in quickly! Oh nooo… no bueno! The SBBF also had a burrito, not sure which one it was but he said it was one of the biggest and most tasty burrito he’s ever had in his life. Yep, the food coma set it and STAYED all through the night. I could barely enjoy my meal at fancy-schmancy Tra Vigne that night. Do I regret that burrito bomb? Hell no! I’m craving one right now as we speak. :)

Don’t expect fancy dining ambiance because it’s a tiny hole-in-the-wall carniceria with a Mexican food restaurant in one corner, BUT if tasty delicious authentic Mexican food is what you seek, this is it. Did I mention affordable? I truly believe Vallarta Market’s carnitas burrito has profound healing powers that quell pms and lethargy of the angriest of umm. female folk. Any of the tacos are fabulous as well and the service is FAST! Vallarta Market — you are my hero!

I was so pleased to find a top quality taqueria serving tacos and burritos. The taco’s and burrito’s are quite frankly *really* good, I consider myself a bit of an expert since I spent many years living in the mission district of San Francisco and know what good taqueria food should taste like. So if you want some crazy delicious Mexican food on the cheap and fast, this is the place in the upper valley. The carne asada is delicious and juicy; the pollo asado is the same. I haven’t been able to get past the deliciousness of these to try the pork dishes yet but if they are anything like the beef and chicken I’m sure they are off the hook. The market and Carniceria are small, but generally clean and stocked well with the traditional staples you would expect in a Mexican store. All in all a worthy stop!

Carne Asada tacos were simply amazing!!! Tacos were just right! Chicken tacos were also great, maybe just a bit too spicy. The only thing was missing was grande blue agave margarita or two or … We are Definitely going back for more!!!
