If you want to learn to fly gliders instead of airplanes around the Bay Area, you have only a few choices: NCSA (Byron, CA), Soar Hollister (Hollister, CA), the Williams Soaring Center (Williams, CA), and Crazy Creek (Napa, CA).
In less than four years from my first flight, NCSA took me from first flight to flight instructor. It’s a club, so be prepared to pitch in and help maintain the planes you own a part of. In return for that, you get great tow rates, and the mentorship of being in a club with some serious glider pilots who regularly go hundreds of miles and stay up for hours.
