On the way back from Stockton for a cross country flight for my commercial rating(rotor) we stopped in Byron to refuel. We failed to bring water and it was over 100 degrees outside. The kind gentleman at the airport provided us with water and Gatorade.

I’m a Private Pilot home based at Tracy(KTCY). Becasue of the slow, quite and never crowded airways above and around Byron Airport, I choose it to do my air work. Another huge plus to Byron. Tracy Airports 100LL fuel normally runs $.30 cent higher than that of Byron’s. For example. Today’s gas prices in Tracy are: $ 5.58 per gallon. Byron’s is: $ 5.25. A $.33 cent savings. «And that’s all I got to say about that.»

Small airport. Does the job for small plane owners. Has hangars, restrooms, gas and that’s about it. We like to come here to watch the planes and helicopters land and take off. You are able to go right in through the office building and have a seat on the old bench outside and watch and relax. If you don’t feel like sitting outside you can sit inside. A vending machine and plenty of plane magazines can keep you busy. We have flown out of Byron airport and landed in Pine Mountain airport and vice versa. Its about an hour and fifteen minute flight. Never any traffic. Weekends do tend to be busy with the sky divers and planes down the road. Its a simple airport, smaller than its sister airport, Buchanan Field airport.
