Not good and WAY over priced. We were in a pinch and wanted to grab dinner around 9. This place is flashy with very average food. Neon lights and ipads for the wine menu. I wouldn’t even call it Burmese, but very average Chinese food. We had lettuce wraps, two drinks, and two entrees with rice and our bill was $ 80. Totally regret choosing this place. Should have gone next door.

I love the food here, and I am not a fan of the place down the street… The tea leaf salad is like crack, they do a great job and it’s always fresh and consistently tastes really really good(always the same). I’ve tried a number of the dishes at RR and they are all amazing — the noodles, the meat, the shrimp, the rice — yum! The service here is really good as well. They are attentive and on top of things. I look forward to visiting their other locations!

I give it a 1 for food, a 2 for service, and a 3 only because you can hear yourself talk. Maybe we ordered badly, but every dish the 4 of us ordered(with the exception of the samosas) was covered with a disgustingly gloppy sauce(and the samosas came with a gloppy sauce on the side!). Also, the dishes were quite bland. If this is «authentic» Burmese food, I’ll pass. I doubt it is, however, since I’ve had better elsewhere and won’t be returning here. Also, one could taste only minimal alcohol in the drinks — are they honest?

This is not your usual Asian experience, this is Burmese food!!. This is not Chinese food or sushi or anything else you have had before. This food has amazing new flavors spices and combinations that you have never experienced before… and it is my favorite place to eat on the Peninsula. My favorite is the spicy lamb with mint. I have no idea what spices are used in these dishes but they are out of this world delicious. The tea leaf salad is a must try. There is many traditional Burmese dishes here and a fantastic drink selection. Gets busy, make reservations or be prepared to wait. You have to try this food!

Tried this place a few weeks back… Felt like a traitor For trying it since I normally go to Mingalaba a couple of doors down the street! Anyway, the food here is lousy… I ordered the red chili beef recommended by the server, meat was tuff, over cooked, and too salty. As far as the chili, tastes like the cook opened a jar of McCormick’s chili and dumped it in… atrocious. The mango prawns hurt your eyes… Hurt your eyes looking for them! The mangoes were three slivers strategically placed to obscure the invisible prawns. Avoid this place! It did have a decent looking bar… Maybe they hope you get too drunk to notice how crappy the food is!

TLDR — not the best Burmese food I’ve had, but solid enough for me to return My friend and I came for dinner on a Saturday. It was busy enough for the hostess to ask us for our reservation, but not busy enough for us to actually have to wait for a table without one. I’m not really a fan of the red/orange/pink mood lighting inside. Not sure if it’s supposed to give it a more modern/trendy or energetic vibe or something, but unfortunately, it makes any photos annoyingly discolored. It’s also busy/lively inside so it’s a little loud and hard to hear each other, so it’s not really the place for a special/intimate occasion. Service here is great — friendly, prompt and attentive — and food comes out surprisingly fast, which could be a good or bad thing, depending on how you think about it(no wait vs questionable freshness.?). My friend and I ordered the Nan Gyi Dok and Basil Chili Beef to share, both of which weren’t bad but weren’t very memorable. –NANGYIDOK($ 14) — 3⁄5 [rice noodles w/coconut chicken sauce, yellow bean powder, cilantro, fried onion; topped w/hardboiled egg and crispy wontons] Noodles were nice and chewy, and the chicken was cooked pretty well, but the curry sauce lacked flavor. –BASILCHILIBEEF($ 18) — 3.5÷5 [beef tossed w/dried chili flakes, fresh chili and onions; finished w/basil] We ordered it medium spicy because my friend isn’t great with spicy food, and I found the medium spicy to be incredibly weak. The beef was very tender though. The sauce was flavorful but honestly very generic, and like a lot of Asian Fusion places, there was too much of it. Overall, the place is really more 3.5 stars, but I’d be willing to give it another shot, so I’m rounding up to 4. Compared to Burma Superstar in SF though, Rangoon Ruby really can’t compare, but it’s still not bad.

PEOPLE. This is where it’s at. Three words: Tea. Leaf. Salad. You must try it! I am a fan of Burma Superstar in SF, and RR is my preference. Right on Burlingame Ave, super easy to get to. Very attentive staff, and the cocktails remind me of the Tonga room. I will continue to go back again and again!

I see some meh rwviews below, apparently the garlic noodles are not as good here as compared to other locations(per my friends whom I ate with, as well as other reviewers). But I personally did not have them, and my experience was fantastic. I ordered the Mango Shrimp at the suggestion of the waiter who, by the way provided excellent customer service in addition to his great suggestion. I actually wasn’t expecting an AMAZING dish, but it was! The shrimp was juicy, the sauce was amazing, flavorful, a little spicy, good compliment to the sweet mango slices. I had jasmine rice on the side. I was debating ordering a second item since I was pretty hungry, but my dish was so good that I didn’t want to ruin it with something I may or may not like as much. I really enjoyed my dinner and I would definitely come in again.

Came in a few weeks ago to check them out with my girlfriend and her mother. Busy. Wait staff seemed flustered and mildly unfocused(this may have been due to the grand opening, will disregard observation.) Orders were taken late, and multiple servers asked for our drink orders prematurely. Food was mediocre at best. — tea leaf salad — overtly salty, lacking depth. Over dressed.(the tealeaf salad at Mingalaba’s better) — Mixed Veggie Curry was adequate, portion was good for an individual order, but probably not shared. Ordered Indian rice, but should have ordered the jasmine rice instead — Mango Chicken was good, probably a tad sweeter than I would have liked. Good compliment for a saltier dish. Ambience was busy, but bareable for a Saturday evening. If you’re looking for a quiet dinner, I’d go elsewhere. Might be okay for a small group casual dinner/lunch

Fool’s gold is what this place is. Snazzy interior, snazzy bar, snazzy music… BUT the food is far from snazzy. If you’re down for unauthentic, overpriced & bland food this is the perfect place for that. It’s for sure not a place I would recommend & for sure not a place I would come back to. With that being said, why even open the place? I was here with my sister & she pointed out a «Now Hiring» sign which stated that they are still looking for: servers, hostesses, bus boys, food runners, a food expo, & a dishwasher. ??? Um??? This«restaurant» is clearly unprepared & inexperienced. Get your shit together Rangoon Ruby.

One star for interior design. One star for effort. Many reviewers had already shared their awful experiences here, but my family decided to try it out. When you first judge the appearance of the restaurant, there’s a «Now Hiring» sign with a list of six different positions people are able to apply for. If this franchise is not properly prepared with a strong staff, then why open the restaurant now? After being seated and taking a look at the menu, you notice that many entrees are starred meaning that selected dishes are spicy. The asteroid stated that even though it may be spicy, it can be altered to any level of hotness including«no spice». But when I tried to order the chicken Kebat non-spicy, the waitress simply told me that they could only increase the amount of spice ignoring the fact that this was clearly starred. Fooled by what the description had said, I had to settle for the Mango Chicken. My sister and I had ordered the Burmese iced tea but were let down by the lack of sweetness and tea taste. It honestly tasted like watered down Hong Kong style powdered tea and not even the condensed milk could help. The orders came out in a decent amount of time but either lacked flavor or tasted like shitty Chinese food. The Palata with chicken sauce would’ve been better without the clump of chicken drowned in curry water. The sauce actually took away the flavor from the palata. I took three bites from the chicken mango and returned it back to the kitchen claiming it to be not appetizing at all. Thankfully, it was taken off the bill. Moving on to the Rangoon chicken curry… I’ll admit that it was better than the previous plate but still lacked flavor and wasn’t close to being finished. The misspelled«Monk Hingar» was a shallow bowl of unsalted noodles with watered down fish«chowder». My mother requested for additional fish sauce and was given what seemed like only a teaspoon of what was asked. If the«most ethnic» dish you have here is barely edible, then how could you call this a Burmese restaurant? This place is full of flaws ranging from the bland food and overpriced drinks and food. If you truly want to eat some nice Burmese food, make the effort to walk two stores down to Mingalaba. I haven’t left much reviews during my usage of Unilocal but decided that writing this would be worth it to anyone wanting to try out this place. I hope you think twice about checking this restaurant out and thanks for reading!

Ive pretty much been to all their other locales and have had good meals. Recently i met up with an old co worker at the newest locale. Lamb, beef, pork and garlic noodles. Heavy protein dinner with chilis all around. However it seemed the chili pork was only the really spicy dish. The wok skills are good as all the proteins were tender. The weakest dish was the noodles, with not much flavor and a bit too soft. Desserts of sticky rice and pudding were really good. I think it’s still not up to par with the other locales yet but theyre on the way as theyre already slammed with a fee days open and it wasnt too bad

We wanted to have Burnese food at Mingalaba, but the estimated wait was 30 minutes. So we walked a few steps and tried this new restaurant in its first week, which also happens to serve Burmese food. It’s definitely more upscale than Mingalaba, but the flavors are not as defined. We haven’t eaten a lot of Burmese food, but it seems similar to Cantonese food. We ordered a salad and asked the server to put the peanuts on the side since I am allergic to peanuts. The waitress did not tell the chef, or the chef forgot, and the plate had peanuts. The server did not apologize or offer to bring another, so I did not try the salad. This is a serious issue but I did not want to make the server feel bad since it’s a very new restaurant. Tempting to give no stars for this mistake which can kill many of us with a peanut allergy. We also had jalapeño chicken, mango chicken, garlic eggplant and Rangoon pork. Plus two different rice dishes. All dishes were ordered medium spicy but the only spicy item was the Burmese rice. Guess we needed to order spicy to up the flavor. They really push the drinks and appetizers, but we only had beer and tap water. The water was like Lululemon water, with cucumber juice. Some who had never had it wondered what was in the water and did not like it. Maybe the food will improve, but we thought the prices were a little higher than the food warranted.

My friends and I went to the grand opening today and it was amazing! This Rangoon Ruby location is tucked in Burlingame Avenue amongst retail shops and other restaurants. We ordered the samosas, basil beef, lemongrass chicken, coconut rice and garlic noodles. Everything we ordered was sooo flavorful and tasty! We will definitely be back to try the other dishes. The best dish was the dessert — deep fried coconut pudding with mango ice cream. A must get if you go!
