We’ve been ordering from here for years. Nicely prepared sushi — good quality, reasonable prices. I’m not a huge fan of their soups(they are pretty bland), but I’ve been happy with everything else, especially their sushi platter and the tempura dishes(crispy, not greasy, generous amounts of shrimp). Also, the owners are very nice people!

Sushi is tasty, service is good. Restaurant is clean, and Japanese like, as you would expect.

This is the best sushi place in the area. No question, I have looked for places that can maybe compete and have not found any. There is a place called momo sushi in Alexandria that is a competitor but I would still take fortune house over all. To people complaining about service; youre too shy, anti-social. Learn to speak up, this is run by a family its not a place run and managed by your usual«american restaurant business», they are not servers, they are chefs. When the food is as good as theirs you can speak up and theyll address your needs. This is a master of the sushi world. Thats why I love this place, you feel like your eating at their home and its a special feeling you’ll never have anywhere in burke. The fish is amazing, owners put blood, sweat and tears in their craft and it shows. Do yourself a favor Get the Shrimp tempura, any of the crunchy rolls, the 007 and salmon avocado roll.

Went to Fortune house with the family to ring on the new year. Chose it because of the reviews on Unilocal. The place was average and the service was just mediocore at best. It seems to be family run so I wasn’t expecting much. When we ordered our food we ended up getting the a yakisoba and a fried rice for the kids. I got the combination ramen noodle. I was expecting more from the ramen noodles since it was a Japanese place but the broth was very bland. As for the yakisoba. the kids were disappointed since it had lots of onions and cabbage which I think they used as fillers for the noodles. And as for the fried rice… it might just of been me for being picky but the rice was very sticky and clumpy. I mean when i make my fried rice it comes clumpy… cause i’m not good at making fried rice… but anyhow… all in all it was just ok… but we did get a spicy California roll which was good. Hope this helps. I think next time I’ll just stick w/the sushi and bento boxes.

My favorite sushi place in Northern Virginia! Locally run by a sweet family who makes the most delicious sushi and bento boxes. My family has been coming here for many years, and when you go there a lot they begin to remember your name and your order making it that much more pleasant to go. It has a very relaxed environment and their sushi is always fresh and delicious. Fortune house never disappoints!

It’s been a couple of years since my first visit to Fortune House, so even though I didn’t have the best experience the first time I dined here, I figured it was only fair to give it another try. I was pleasantly surprised! Some of the same problems still persist(the sashimi is cut really weird, but at least tasted fresh) but the service was a big improvement — still a little brusque at first, but quick and efficient enough, and the sushi was tasty! We got the Fortune Roll, Spicy Scallop Roll, Super Salmon Roll, and a regular salmon roll, as well as some sashimi. The Fortune and Spicy Scallop rolls were my favorites, but everything tasted very good. We also got their dessert roll, which came with mango, pineapple, cream cheese, crab stick, and rolled in coconut flakes with coconut cream sauce. It reminded me of a mango sticky rice sushi roll, which meant it was pretty awesome. Really heavy on the cream cheese though — I might recommend using a little bit less since its perfectly good with just the fruit honestly! I’m glad I gave Fortune House another try, especially since it’s so conveniently located to my fiancé’s house. It doesn’t rank at the absolute top of my sushi place preferences, but it’s definitely a perfectly good place to grab a sushiriffic bite.

We went this evening and the service was horrific. We came in and not only did no one greet us we had to ask if we seat ourselves. Not a big deal as it was our first time. After we sat no one came by for 5 minutes. I helped myself to a pen and we selected out sushi. Someone brought us water and asked if we wanted soup and needed a menu. We selected our sushi on the menu and waited. And waited. And waited. Still no one. I got up and gave our order to the gentleman making sushi. At the end of the meal we waited 5 – 10 minutes and no one came to give us a check. We got up and found the waitress hanging out in the back. Not only was this the WORSTSERVICEEVER and sushi was subpar and the choices were minimum — rainbow roll was about the most creative thing on the menu.

I was expecting a little more but it wasn’t bad chow. The service was ok, but I think we are a little spoiled with our sushi spot. The noodles were ok, but again nothing worth driving across town for. My son enjoyed his chicken katsu so that’s a positive lol. A solid 3 stars, but again I think we are spoiled with our original dinner spot.

I love their lunch box! I’ve eaten at the restaurant only on a weekday during lunch and the service was very attentive and friendly, I’ve also ordered carry out and was pleased with my food just the same. It’s such a great deal for all the food you get with it. They are always super accommodating and willing to substitute the California roll for other rolls per request. They also will offer their suggestions and opinions on what rolls to get, which is fine with me since they are the experts. My favorites are the spicy tuna and spicy salmon. I’ll definitely be returning to try more sushi and am looking forward it!

The sushi was really nice and fresh! However I did think the price was a little high. I did like the fact that the sushi for two came with soup and salad. The restaurant was nice but it wasn’t the best sushi.

My friend and I came 46 minutes before closing time and the server was super scary. She came to the table every minute asking us if we were ready to order. We got it to go and even when we were about to leave she scared us… The people working in the restaurant were yelling at each other in different languages and there was so much chaos and confusion. For the food don’t eat the chirashi here. The rolls were decently priced and portioned. I ordered the Rainbow Roll and the Crunchy Spicy Salmon roll. I thought it was pretty darn good but my friends chirashi was warm and the fish were not fresh at all. The rice for the chirashi was not sushi rice and he ended up not eating most of the raw fish except for salmon.

I LOVE sushi and this is possibly one of my favorite sushi places in the area. I live in the Gainesville area and drive all the way to Burke just for the sushi! The staff is so upbeat and fun and they give little«extras» when we come in to order. Their miso is fantabulous and in still working through the rolls but so far I love them all!

The sushi here is very fresh. The owners are a lovely couple who work hard and remember all of their regulars. Try the spicy crunchy tuna and their rainbow roll. It’s always a little busy on the weekends so I would try them on the week days. One of my favorites!

As a sushi-lover, this has become my go-to sushi place(well, at least this is the best for its vicinity and quality). As far the food goes, it’s very decent. It pretty much always hits the spot for my sushi cravings. I always get the crunchy spicy salmon roll; it’s become a hit amongst all of the people I’ve recommended it to as well. If you’re going for lunch, I do highly recommend getting the sushi lunch box. It’s super filling and a great bang for your buck($ 11-$ 12). It comes with a few fried items, tofu, a small salad with peanut vinaigrette, miso soup, 3 california roll pieces, and a roll of your choice. If I come on an empty stomach, I can only sometimes barely finish this one. So worth it! The food and ambiance would be ~4 stars, but the owners are just so kind :) I love coming here because they’re always welcoming and bubbly. Usually the woman, Lan, is the only server, yet she is rather attentive. In short, I love this place. Definitely give it a try if you live in the area!

When I lived in Virginia I wasn’t as much of a sushi fiend as I am now, but when the craving did strike, Fortune House was where I would ALWAYS go. It’s located in a strip mall and it doesn’t particular stand out from the rest of the restaurants in the area. The name makes it seem like a Chinese spot, which makes sense since everyone who works there is Chinese, but don’t let that deter you from trying it out. They have a wide variety of rolls, but nothing that you haven’t seen elsewhere. My favorite is the rainbow roll, which has a bunch of different flavors. The food quality is dependent on the day, some are fresher than the other, so you’ll have to hope the day you go is a right after they restock. I would suggest getting the rolls, because the sashimi and nigiri aren’t cut very well. The nigiri’s rice to fish ratio is a bit off, and since their rice tends to be a bit vinegary it can make the heavily riced nigiri a bit unpleasant. I don’t know of many other sushi places in the Burke area, so I’d suggest Fortune House, it does get busy though.

BOY, was I surprised with this little gem, nestled in the city of Burke! Fortune House is a Chinese family-owned and –operated Japanese restaurant, but DON’T let that little information deter you — the owner was trained in Japan and really knows how to offer fresh quality sushi. A couple of our friends are huge fans of this place, so we came to check it out! This place has been around for about 14 years, and the menu offers nigiri, spicy rolls, vegetable sushi, maki rolls, Chef’s specials, appetizers, lunch boxes(bento), donburis, noodles, etc. The hubs and I came here for lunch, and we decided to get a couple of nigiris: Yellowtail(Hamachi), Fresh Salmon(Sake) and Surf Clam(Hokki Gal), as well as a Spicy Tuna Roll and a Spicy Scallop Roll. The nigiris were generously-sized sliced fish, and they were all fresh and buttery. The spicy rolls were unbelievable, as they had a lovely ratio of the mayo, while not masking the tuna and the scallop(both were delicious); I was surprised at the generous heaping amount of extra ‘fillings’ on top! :O We also ordered a lunch box(bento; we opted for a a tempura & chicken teriyaki combo — this was okay(loved the crispy shrimp tempura and the onion ring, and the addition of the fried tofu with the sweet teriyaki sauce), but I highly suggest in sticking with the offerings from the sushi bar. I was a little sad that they did not have any Toro(my absolute favorite), but I’ll try to grab that next time: D Our server, Ms. Lan, was such a sweetheart, and we had a total blast, just laughing it up and having a great time. The owner wasn’t present, but the second-in-command, Sushi Chef Hua, really served up a great platter(I can only imagine how good the owner’s sushi preparation will be, considering that Chef Hua was so awesome) — Chef Hua was very serious with his sushi and it shows! The nice grandmother, Ms. Xie, was making sure our waters were filled, and she took turns with Ms. Lan in terms of bringing out our orders. Finding quality fresh sushi is a bit difficult in the DC metro area, but now I have Fortune House: D +fresh quality sushi: D +generous amounts(!) +ask for Ms. Lan and Ms. Xie: D +plenty of spots in the shared lot of the plaza

This is a half-decent sushi place in this area. The score given is relative to the competitors in this area. The sashimi was not cut cleanly. Rough stringy bits on the end slices and so on. Good and bad sashimi is only separated by two factors: the cut and the quality of fish. In the end it is just sliced raw meat but when you fail 50% of the criteria it’s no good. In other words, the quality of the fish seemed good to me. The nigiri was also just O.K. The rice was a bit too acidic and clumpy I think. The tuna and salmon seemed fresh. Service: the one kid who was referred to by a regular as «the son» was pretty inattentive. He was apparently supposed to give me rice with whatever I ordered. I didn’t want the rice, I only know this because the one middle aged woman seemed astonished that I wasn’t offered rice and made the offer herself. Overall the atmosphere is nice, I felt like I was only the non regular there at lunch time. Everyone was talking to the family and stuff. There was a group of Chinese people at a corner table just chilling drinking tea and talking. I feel like if you become a regular here the experience gets better. Overall, I’d come here again for sushi and to try kitchen items. It’s edible sushi, decent prices and variety, good atmosphere, and conveniently located. Then again, if you are used to great, authentic sushi, you wont be impressed. I want to like this place and support the local business. It seems like they care about there customers!

Love this place. Even though I am a total sushi-slut when it comes to sushi restaurants, Fortune House will always have a special place in my heart. What i love most about this place is that it’s family-owned, and the owner(aka the sushi chef) is the most adorable man and if you come here often, he will remember you because he loooves his regulars. The sushi is always fresh and is served in generous portion. I usually get the Sushi Bento Box and substitute the California Rolls for the salmon roll. I’ve tried several specialty rolls and they’ve all been amazing(especially the one that’s served hot, forgot its name). The Bento Box also comes with various tempura(shrimp, sweet potato, eggplant, etc) and they are crispy and fried fresh. Fresh sushi, Great service, Adorable owner, and a very homey atmosphere!
