2 words: Goddamn delicious! Wait is that technically 3 words? Wifey and I had some alone time last night, so we decided to treat ourselves to some street food. She didn’t feel like cooking and neither did I so off we went in search of some tasty vittles. Drove our asses over to Barragan’s for some Mexican food, but the parking lot was full as fuck and there was no street parking!(Note to self: that place must be good as hell and must try) So I suggested Tokyo Yakitori. We live really close to this place and we always say we’re going to try it, but for some reason or other we never did… until yesterday, glad we did. Strolled into the joint, bumped into one of my go to bomb ass barbers(Paul from Arena’s barber shop) who was having a cool night out with wife and kids in tow, said ‘sup and in we went. Browsed the menu and ordered. Wifey had the teriyaki tempura combo and I ordered the tonkatsu tempura combo. Both were great, the chicken was tender and juicy and the pork chop/cutlet whatever the fuck tonkatsu was the business. The tempura veggies were great as well, although the sweet potato was pretty tasty I’m not a huge fan of that shit, but the broccoli… bomb! The steamed rice was nice and fluffy and the shit even came with a little salad on the side. Nice cold water dispenser on a table was readily available as was a hot water dispenser for tea or hot cocoa or whatever the fuck one drinks when partaking in Japanese cuisine. The prices were reasonable and the service was pretty good considering how busy it was both inside and at the drive thru window… yup there’s that.

Their food is good, I cannot complain. However, customer service is awful. The girl who takes your orders on Sundays is the worst. She has no smile when interacting and always gives attitude when you ask em for other things. I’m always willing to pay extra for my sauces and Ginger, but she just hates it when you ask her. She should just work in the kitchen, and have someone else run the front.

Just not good. The food took forever. It was expensive. And it wasn’t tasty. I won’t go back.

We used to come here every time we visited our family in town. They used to close every Sunday. The food was the BEST and brought us back every time and sometimes was th excuse for our visits to Burbank. Today’s visit has put this place on the«do not return» list for us. The rice on the rolls tastes like the Costco sushi platters. It was too sticky with bits of under cooked rice mixed in. The rolls taste pre-made. Presentation wise, the rolls are cut into uneven sizes; some are thicker/thinner than others. Advice: do not order the rolls. Chicken teriyaki is a disappointment. Dark meat and DRY?! Go figure how that happens. Pre cook and microwave? Who knows! But definitely NOT what it used to be; crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Tempura is still above average and decent. With a less than friendly face serving, it is unlikely that we will return to this once beloved local spot.

Note: If you are picking up to eat elsewhere, consider calling in your order. It skips the wait time :) Tokyo Yakitori is the place I go to for quick lunches and/or dinners. They’re a solid Japanese restaurant location, and I personally really enjoy their spicy tuna rolls. Their curry and chicken options are also very enjoyable. Just so you can take a peek at what they have to offer, I’ve uploaded their updated menu to the photo gallery of Unilocal

Tokyo Yakitori for a drive-thru dinner: vegetable egg roll, 2 sushi rolls and strawberry snowflakes. Competitive to fast food if you stick to combo specials. Japanese food served completely wacked. And who eats it… Me, because it’s cute.

This place has a nice selection of food. The taste is decent, depending what you order. The service and the owner lady is very nice and friendly, she’s a extremely hard working person!

If you want something quick, you can come here. I’ve been here a few times and they always seem to have a lot of people take food to go all the time and no matter what time of the day it is. Their food is consistently fresh but mostly of their cooked food. Good for something quick.

Work nearby, was driving around trying to find something decent to eat and landed to this spot that I have never tried. I got the Chicken skewers with Rice + corn. — Chicken was good with a few of the pieces pretty burned. Not impressive at all. — The lowlight was their Rice. It was extremely mushy. ughh. I was hoping to have good japanese style rice. — Service was ok. Asked for a napkin and the lady had the look as if i was asking for $ 100. They seem not too happy in their jobs. Probably won’t come back to this place.

I’m giving Tokyo four stars because I have been coming here over ten years and they have consistently served up great food for a great price :) When I was a kid, my grandma loved this place. Now, it is my mom’s and brother’s favorite. The food is fresh and the place is clean. They have a drive thru which is very convenient if you don’t feel like going inside. A new perk is also their snow ice cream. it is 5 dollars for one, a bit pricey, but totally worth it. Can’t describe how yummy it is !! Plus they have the Asian flavors such as redbean and injuimi. I love Tokyo!

Stopped by Kopan Ramen after watching Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown and his visit to Okinawa. Not wanting to make the drive to Little Tokyo we decided to try this Ramen house out. Craving some ramen… Everything we had was delicious and definitely hit the spot. The chasu was so good, tender with so much flavor. We will definitely be coming back!

This is a good example of Unilocal being misleading. 4 stars(right now) but temper ur expectations. When we arrived today, it took them at least 10 minutes before they took our order. So yea, service and staff can be off depending on when u go. There was a line of cars in the drive thru and it was pretty busy. Overheard one lady complaining that she had been waiting for her order for an hour, probably an exaggeration. Udon was good, and most of our food was pretty appetizing save for my tonkatsu which looked dry. In sum, food = good. Price = right. Service and atmosphere = you get what you pay for.

Look, I get it. I’m not gonna get my d!$k sucked every where I go. But in today’s tough & expensive times & with so many food options out there, at least pretend you’re glad I decided to spend my money at your joint! Let’s all keep in mind they close at 9pm Walked in at 8:15pm, placed an order to dine in. When the food came out, the cashiers kept passing/peeking over to see how far we were with our food since they close at 9 I suppose. A family walked in at 8:30 hoping to dine in but were told they could only do take-out at this point… Since they close at 9. When we had 1st walked in, we mentioned some of their shaved ice would be good after dinner but were told we could only get it if we ordered it & got it at the moment(8:15) because they were cleaning up now, they close at 9. I’m going to make sure i never get in the way of these guys closing at 9 by never going to this establishment again. Fixed! Your Homegirl, Violy

I’m not sure if I ordered chicken teriyaki or chicken skin/fat teriyaki. I’ve ordered from here before but I was disappointed this time. The chicken itself was cooked well for the most part but it was very unappetizing having to spit out the fat and skin after coming across it midway through chewing. It shouldn’t be that hard to cut out the fat and skin prior to cooking it. Please take pride in what you serve your customers. I’m sure you wouldn’t enjoy experiencing what I did if you were in my position. If you want chicken teriyaki with quality, try Flame Boiler in Glendale near GCC.

Tokyo Yakitori ain’t that bad at all. We walked by and saw this place while heading to the Commonwealth one day. We had a quick glance at their menu at the drive thru and it looked very appealing and the price was very reasonable. The place isn’t that big they probably have about six tables inside and a small patio. SERVICE: Very friendly and quick. FOOD: Tonkatsu & Curry Bowl: This was actually good. The tonkatsu was breaded and fried perfectly. The curry had good flavor. This will definitely get you full. Tonkatsu & Tempura Combo: Another surprisingly good dish. The combo comes with a side of salad, corn, and rice. The tempura was well battered and fried perfect. An all around solid dish and it was a great sized portion. Udon: This was the only one we didn’t like. It was very plain. Tokyo Yakitori I think is good place to come during lunch hour. Yeah I think would return if I’m the neighborhood.

It was our first time coming here and almost couldn’t find the place… but when we got there, everything looked good. The place is not big, but it’s enough for small groups, you stay in or outside patio type. Our order took awhile but it’s okay, since everything we ordered was good! The cashier was okay, not too friendly but not rude. This place got an «A», so we had to see and try it.

Unilocaled this place, looking for an alternative to Yoshinoya, we were looking for a sit down Japanese restaurant. But when we drove up, we saw the drive thru and thought maybe the service will be as bad. Nothing could be further from the truth, the lady who took our order was very nice and patient as we scanned their extensive menu. We ordered beef teriyaki, chicken katsu, spicy tuna roll, gyoza, and udon soup. All of the food was served promptly, the portions were decent sized. The tuna roll was surprisingly good, the udon soup and katsu were a hit with my kids. The beef teriyaki was interesting, I am not sure if because they tout their food to be healthier, but it was dry, completely lacking any fat. But it was slightly charred and had an interesting flavor, the meat was not tough. Dry but not tough, I am thinking they did this on purpose? We might try this place again if we are in the area. Yoshinoya is still a bit cheaper, some things are better here and vice versa, but this place has better customer service. :)
