Giamela’s doesn’t stand a chance. Santoro’s is much tastier PLUS the onions, pickles and tomatoes are chopped ever so perfectly and little. My favorite part is eating the bits that fall on to the butcher paper as I devour my sandwich! Yum!

The pastrami USED to be the best. These days, there’s too much nerve and grissle. The bread has always been the same for 50+ years, waaaay too soft. It’s 50_years of, «Eh». You can never save your other ½ of your hot sandwich bc the bread will turn gooey and sticky. Even saving a cold sandwich is impossible for saving for more than a few hours.

I had Santoros for the first time yesterday after years of living in Burbank! I was craving a sandwich but I wanted to «shop local» and avoid subway and the like. I ordered a roasted turkey cold sub with everything but mayo. I was impressed! The turkey was delicious, the bread was chewy and fresh(although I would have preferred it toasted), and the diced pickles they add on top were out of this world! Although there was a bit of a line, service was fast and the gentleman who made my sub was friendly. I do think the sandwiches are a pinch overpriced but I won’t hesitate to pay it vs going to subway or another chain. I’ll be back!

This place has great old school submarine sandwiches. My go to is the turkey with cheese and have them make it with everything. Don’t be afraid to get the large, you sure won’t regret it. Their cannoli are also amazing. The traditional are the best. All in all its the go to neighborhood submarine shop.

F*ck this place. I drove all the way from Northridge to get a sandwich and as soon as I get there the guy tells me that they’re out of rolls. Doesn’t bother to say I’m really sorry maybe your next visit I’ll. Hook you up with a sandwich or drink or something. Seriously though screw this customer service the customer services shit they made me not want to ever come back there!!! Really horrible customer service Go to three pickles in Santa Barbara it’s way better and there are a lot nicer

My turkey sandwich with everything but tomatoes was really good. I love their pickles. The only thing I disliked was the woman wasn’t that friendly. The gentlemen was hilarious and super friendly. They don’t skimp on meat which is really cool **response to comment** yes it was my first time. I’ll definitely be back to try other items

Disappointed. The service was fast, and the staff was very friendly. The sandwich didn’t live up to even my lowest expectations of a deli. What little meat there was in the Italian Cold Cut sandwich, was barely enough to taste. Of course, they were more than generous with pickles, tomatoes, and onions. I paid $ 8.50 for the large. I won’t do that again.

Very GOOD sandwiches! First time here and got the Large pastrami sub. So filling! Lots of pastrami and love the toppings. Was only able to finish half. Customer service was also great. Only thing I wish they had maybe soups or something for kids other then sandwiches. Also wished they had a bathroom for customers. But this will not stop me from coming back.

A great Italian sub spot. Kind of intimidating when you walk in, as you basically shout your order to whoever makes contact with you(!), but the service is good and the sandwiches are great. The Italian Cold Cut with everything on it(their toppings are limited to chopped tomatoes, onions and pickles, all done separately) will make you question every chain sandwich you ever had. And the potato salad is pure goodness. Very casual, and very cool.

The pastrami is the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve had the hat, giamelas as well as a few others in Texas. The topping options are a bit limited like only one kind of cheese, provolone. And I have yet to try a cold cut there as I’m in a wicked trance to only getting the pastrami but I have also tried the steak and egg and that’s bomb too. The pastrami is wet but that’s what puts the flavor over the top. So don’t be above a little mess. The only negative if not annoying thing I found with the place is that the receipt paper you sign for running a card to pay is always super light on the ink/print. You can barely tell whAts printed. It’s been that way for atleast 2 months since I started going there. Change the toner!!!

A puzzling experience: I had a sandwich that had beef, cheese, peppers, tomato and onion; yet it was virtually flavorless. It was as if every ingredient had been dropped into cold water and drained through a strainer. Not literally of course, but it was surprisingly bland for what should have been a robust mixture of flavors. It needed salt, or oil, or something. Mediocre. We also had a pastrami sandwich, which was pretty good, truth be told. But not nearly good enough to crack the top five pastrami places I could go to instead. On a positive note, they were quick, friendly and decently priced. All that is appreciated but not enough to go back for another try.

What is Santoro’s? It is quintessential Burbank, working class, Italian American food. And it serves that up at 110%, so I give it five stars because I can’t give it six. I like to think that if chain restaurants weren’t so incentivized by subsidy and favorable rules, to dominate every block in every city, there would be more places like Santoro’s where personable, local owners talk to you while making your food. One tragedy of a dynamic economy is that the dignity, age and legacy of an establishment is not always reflected in its building. So it doesn’t look like the authentic 50s-era sandwich place that it is. Instead it’s hidden in an unassuming stucco box near a bunch of auto repair shops. Luckily, most of the other atmospheric discrepancies are correctable. The huge plastic napkin dispensers decorating the walls around the perimeter may save some labor over the little cute stainless ones we know and love, but ouch!

It’s a Saturday and all fellow Burbankians are gathered in line with their children and grandchildren clamoring for their weekend sandwich. All ages and cultures meshed together for the chance to try a Burbank local legend: the Santoros sub! I bite into the sandwich and a familiar yet surprising taste fills my senses. Santoros is a one of a kind place right down to its décor and layout. You’ll have to try it yourself to find out!

PLACEHASBEENAROUNDFOREVERANDEVER I really like hoagies done this ‘old school’ way with the pickles, onions and tomatoes. What I don’t like is that they are VERY sparse on the meat. What Santoro’s basically does is put about one slice of meat and one slice of cheese and then load it up with a ton of pickles, onions and tomatoes. I’m not saying that is not a good flavor, but really? Why so sparse on the meat and cheese? It’s not like the sandwiches are really inexpensive here; pickles and onions on bread with a slice of meat should be half this price. A sandwich like this can only happen in a place like Burbank.

The best sub sandwich place of all time. Est in 1958 there is a reason they are still going strong. Deli style fresh cut meats make it taste like no other. Giamela’s is a Cheezy copy of Santoros just down the road. Don’t be fooled it’s not nearly as good. The Italian cold cut is amazing. Give it a try you be back again and again.

I’ve only gotten the pastrami… CUZIT’S SO F*****G GOOD!!! I lived in NYC and Katz’s was my place… Until now. This pastrami is one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had in my entire life. Lean, thinly sliced, and melts in your mouth!!! …and yes, I’m writing this while sitting here eating it

I had never been and was in the neighborhood so I decided to check it out. I had the Italian. Fresh roll, great meats and cheese, plus fresh toppings. I don’t know if the food was better or the service — both a pleasant surprise. Don’t forget to try the cannoli. See if you can stop at just one!

Entertainment Book coupon is the reason I dropped in. Great introduction coupon! Pastrami($ 8.45 — Large) So much pastrami! Is there a such thing as TOO much pastrami? Nahhhh. This thing is huuuuuge. We only ate half and took the other half to go. Let me tell you it was JUST as good the next day! Italian Cold Cut($ 8.25) My favorite sub here. Love the salami! The meats go great. I think it comes with provolone, but the cheese was great! Highly recommended. The can get long for the lunch rush, so be prepared for that!
