Everything has been good when I’ve come here for breakfast or dinner. I’ve tried various egg dishes for breakfast and the chicken pot pie for dinner was very good. Four stars because nothing has blown me out of the water where I have to order it every time because it’s so good, but I know I can always come here for good food.

Loved this place. Went to Sophia’s restaurant on Military Rd for breakfast. This place is a Hidden gem. The food was excellent I got the breakfast number 3, 2 eggs, pancakes and meat for $ 6.50 and I order a side of hash browns. The only thing I would suggest is to put a little spice into the hash brown. It was extremely reasonable and would recommend this place for breakfast.

Wow. Everything was great — food, atmosphere, service, food, prices-oh wait I said food already. Located in a very industrial area of Buffalo, New York, I even met some food loving locals who didn’t know about it but it’s obviously popular as it was full both times that I went. The corned beef hash –Oh Em Gee. topped with two Farm fresh eggs whose yolks were as orange as schoolbuses. And if you’re lucky the owner will come out and gift you with a beautiful glass of homemade rice pudding generously topped with cinnamon. I hear it’s not on the menu. Coffee is from a local roaster –excellent, free refills. Try the homemade bread-yes real butter. Also the Canadian bacon –like no Canadian bacon I’ve ever tried outside of Canada. Thick cut, flavorful, juicy. All of this at diner type prices.

Friendliest staff. Speedy service. Portions sizes are huge. Food cooked just the way it was requested. Brought an out of towner in for breakfast last Friday morning and there was a small wait, not more than 10 minutes. We were able to sit on the patio and dine in the sun. My guest ordered the Greek omelet and requested to add peperoni. I ordered two eggs scrambled with bacon. We both requested our eggs and hash browns well done which they came out perfect! We also had two blueberry pancakes to share. I never had to request a coffee warm up. My cup was always full and hot. By far my favorite breakfast spot in town!

Seriously delicious breakfast… We’ve been traveling for the last two weeks and this place ranks tops for breakfast. We had eggs, bacon, sausage, regular and blueberry pancakes, french toast, homemade bread and potatoes. Everything came to the table hot. I loved that they put the blueberries in the pancakes and not just dumped cold on top. The bacon was delicious and cooked perfectly(I got completely burned/black bacon somewhere else) and the sausage had good flavor. I deeply regret ordering the homemade bread. I ate WAY more than I should have. I don’t think I can get enough steps in today to burn off those calories. By the looks of it, several local come in here regularly. Think«where everybody knows your name.» That’s always a good sign to me. I definitely recommend this place to anyone.

We got here and the line was out the door, which is not unusual for Sophia’s. They claimed the wait time would only be 10−15min, but I found that hard to believe given the number of people outside. Luckily they proved me wrong! They managed to get us seated in about 15min. The service was quick and our waitress was very attentive. I ordered two chocolate chip pancakes and my girlfriend ordered scrambled eggs and corn beef hash. Both of our orders turned out great. Sophia’s is definitely the best place to grab breakfast in Buffalo. The only downside to Sophia’s is the lack of parking. If you come here anywhere near peak time for breakfast, be prepared to find parking in the surrounding streets.

I’m from NYC and LOVETHIS Place! Lots of NYC décor and the food is good too! Was craving hash and eggs, and they had it. Also craving pancakes and their’s are the best I’ve had in buffalo! Thanks Sophia’s! 6÷12÷16 came back again. Had corn beef and hash. Will upload it. Was told wait time was 15 minutes and despite how crowded it was, it happened. Amazing! Talk about keeping your word. That made my morning. The only thing is, if your a germaphobe, they’re super busy so the chairs might have nasty oily prints all over it… not their failure just gross because the food is naturally oily. Anyway food was delicious and I got a really generous portion. Cannot wait to come back. Keeping it real, Charismatic Cherie

When in Buffalo… a fried bologna sandwich is a MUSTHAVE and Sophias is a great place to get one. Of course I had the fried bologna sandwich. It is thick cut bologna, fried onions and melted cheese on a bun served with fries. It’s simple and perfectly tasty. The smell alone conjures up tons of childhood memories and that first bite took me right back to when grandma would cook fried bologna for me. Some things do not need to be fancied up and this sandwich is one of those things. Our waitress today was Sophia. She was friendly and even treated us to homemade rice pudding for dessert. Oh my! If you like rice pudding you will LOVE Sophias rice pudding. If you are not a fan of rice pudding you need to try Sophias, you will become an instant fan for sure. Old fashioned diner type restaurant with charm and homemade food that you will love. I can easily see why Sophias has been around for so long.

June 8, 2016 Wednesday — 1PM for lunch 4 Adult and a kid Atmosphere — 4 stars Food — 5 stars Service — 4 stars Background — Hitting another Diners, Drive In and Dives. Atmosphere — Not the classic metal framed Diner but still has the classic diner counter. The five of us sat in the corner at a round table that had a booth that wrapped around it. It was a little cozy and the booth should be recovered. Food Drink — Just water but they have a full bar. Lunch — The fried bologna sandwich, it came with grilled onions and melted American cheese. Classic. My ordered the same thing, but hers was on a different. It was almost 2PM by the time we were done and they close at 3. They did not specify what type of roll and they are just cleaning up the place. Dessert — Two complimentary rice puddings came to the table. One of the specials of the day. I had a few bites and it was great. But I was stuffed from my lunch Service — Sophia was our waitress. Had to remind her about my daughter’s hot chocolate. It was a cold and windy day in Buffalo. Future — Sure.

A Buffalo staple, Sophia’s offers amazing food and service! The waitresses are very attentive and friendly. I came with a group of friends and they essentially ordered everything on the menu that I considered. Seeing my struggle to decide what to order, our waitress recommended the Eggs Benedict. It wasn’t supposed to be available at that time of the day, but she told me it could be done. She even offered to replace the meat with fresh carved ham. I immediately went with her recommendation. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were huge. I ordered a side of pancakes and I struggled to finish it. Sophia’s is a great little brunch place. The food and service are spot on!

I think that one of my favorite things about Unilocal is how skillful I have become at formulating the best plan to get into the best places at the best times. From the many reviews here, I knew that Sophia’s definitely needed to be on my to-try list but one that would not be best checked off on the weekend during the popular brunch hour. Taking advantage of a rare Friday off from work, I arrived right around 1:00 pm to find my strategy successful – no wait. I was promptly seated by one friendly server and after needing more time to peruse the menu, another server stopped by to make sure I had been taken care of. When I told her I just hadn’t decided yet, she named off various recommendations. It reminded me of visiting my grandmother and straight in the door being asked if I am hungry before being offered an assortment of options. Just a very warm and friendly environment. The place itself is something like a neighborhood corner bar combined with a family owned, country diner – if that makes any sense. There is a bar if you want a boozy breakfast. But there is much more than breakfast here too which is what took me by surprise. There is a full lunch menu as well. The couple next to me were enjoying fish; one plate breaded, the other baked or broiled. It looked pretty good. But I had come for a late breakfast so that is what I ultimately ordered. I really wanted eggs but was extremely tempted by the apple cinnamon walnut pancakes. When I realized I could try all of the above for just under $ 10, I decided to do just that. The pancakes were larger than I expected and I ended up taking one home. But they were amazing – very good decision. The quality and portion sizes for the price here are an outstanding value; combined with a casual and inviting atmosphere with extremely hospitable servers, I now can see why some people will wait it out to get in here for weekend brunch.

I had breakfast this morning(Thursday) at Sophia’s. It was pretty early and basically blew up the minute I sat down at 8:15am. Their parking is less than the restaurant’s seating can accommodate, but there is street parking that seemed adequate for the overflow. It’s a small place where you can seat yourself. I think the downfall of Sophia’s is it’s recent success. They were featured on a Food Network show and ever since they’ve been simply too busy. We had good service, but on the weekend you’ll have a harder time even getting in to this joint. I will give them props for having a full bar so you can get a Bloody Mary. That helps a breakfast and can make a brunch. Heck, that can be brunch depending on what kind of night you had before! The food is good for the price. Figure on spending just south of $ 10 for anything other than a budget breakfast. Their bread is their claim to fame I hear, but I got full and skipped my toast. The rye looked pretty good though! I had hash and eggs. They fry the hash mixed in with the home fries which I’m not a fan of, but it was still solid. Eggs were spot on. That Bloody Mary was pretty good too. My friend had one of the budget breakfasts(#2? #3?) and was also pleased. I’m mixed on the service because although they were very busy we were tended to numerous times. I got to tell 2 – 3 different people I was good on coffee. Depending on the situation that can be a blessing or a curse. Probably not the diner to have a breakup in?

Nice casual ambience. Big portions of carbs, perhaps more than needed as the corn beef hash and the giambotta were obscured by the potatoes. Looked forward to the banana cinnamon walnut French toast but it was less rich and gooey than anticipated and the syrup was watery. Waitress helpful and prompt.

Four stars instead of five because It’s great, but I tried calling three times and they didn’t answer their phone. I drove twenty minutes to get there and there was a sign on the door that said closing at 1pm today, even though there were people inside eating. Stick to your hours if you want to stop driving customers away.

Situated on a corner along Military Road in Buffalo’s once thriving industrial corridor is an older looking joint that on Sunday mornings is guaranteed to have people hanging outside waiting to enter this incredible dining gem called Sophie’s! I timed it perfectly … Beat the crowd and found space for one at the bar. I could watch the line cooks working their magic whole also observing this very cozy updated diner. Sophie’s has a sense of the old but blended in with 2016. Warm welcoming wait staff who continually shared smiles and laughs with each other, which is always a good sign. What to order … The short menu appeared to be loaded with breakfast delights. There was my old standby corned beef hash, which was a tragic disappointment during a recent trip to a Clarence eatery. But those apple cinnamon walnut pancakes were calling my name to. So, I turned to my friendly waitress asking first whether the hash was put together on site … Her smile increased as she said how good the hash is so I ordered the hash sharing my prior dilemma. She said she’d order me one pancake to try. While waiting I saw huge omelets being delivered to others and then I saw my incredible plate loaded with hash that looked like perfect hash … My waitress then pointed to the toast … They had run out of rye and so she brought two pieces of rye and one piece of whole wheat toast. Now, a normal Dave review would be taking away a star but as I took a forkful of hash I entered breakfast heaven! The hash was crisp with the requisite multiple distinct flavors that makes the difference between tinny canned stuff and AWESOMEHASH … Toast issue? No way … This is a 5 Star eatery(Service had a lot to do with that.). I was cheerfully stuffing myself having forgotten the pancake but then she delivered a pancake that was YUM! Ok, I only took two bites before boxing it but it was great and became my next day breakfast. The sun was shining as I walked away from what may have become my favorite breakfast location. There was a line waiting to enter … For good reason!

I LOVE brunch(who doesn’t?) so I’ve been all over this city for brunch… and I have to say Sophia’s is one my favorite! Sunday morning can be a bit of wait but this week they told me 45 minutes wait and it was even a little quicker. Also there’s a nice screened in porch sort of room with seating to wait. Normally you can have a Bloody Mary while you wait. but don’t forget NYS law, they can’t serve bloody’s until noon on Sunday! Speaking of the Bloody Mary’s– they are AMAZING. A little spice but not to much, smooth and flavorful. Best part– they come topped with fresh, hot BACON! They know how to garnish– the mimosas are topped with lots of yummy fruit. I love the omlettes– my favorite is the Sophia 1 with spinach, tomato and feta. It’s simple but delicious and does not disappoint on the fillings. Sophia’s is like your little neighborhood diner but they just do everything better.

I haven’t been to Sophia’s in a long time, maybe two years and it’s not because it’s not good it’s because it’s in such an odd place, a place I just don’t normally think of going to. It’s not on a hip street or trendy neighborhood, it’s not a few blocks walk from apartment, it’s nestled in the former industrial area of North Buffalo/Kenmore area on Military. Recently my friend Urvish said he had just heard about it and wanted to give it a try so off we went on a Sunday adventure. Since my last visit they have moved the entrance to the side of the building, no longer the front so we gave our name to the hostess who advised 15 mins or so, apparently heavily leaning on the«or so» part we waited the approx. an half hour, outside before getting seating. But as I told Urvish, this place is good was evident based upon the number of parties waiting for us. This is a no-frills, no-thrills small dinner, it’s not a typical Greek diner either, just American. The food is simple, the food is good and the place is small. My only issue upon my last visit was the corn beef hash, I love hash, LOVEIT! And if I’m not ordering benedict I’m ordering hash. This plate was described as coming with hash browns and upon receipt they were lying however it was a little under whelming. I’m not sure if it was an effort to skimp on the hash but it was mixed in the potatoes and that took up most of the plate. I understand that hash has potatoes in it but this was canned hash, not homemade so it was a bit skimpy on the corn beef hash. Other than that the side of French toast was great and so was the homemade bread.

I’m not a breakfast person. I can live without it to be honest. Coffee and fruit is the equivalent of breakfast to me. I went to Sophia’s last week when I had off and it was so good that I came back this morning for another day off. Sophia’s is located off of Military past Kenmore Ave in the Buffalo/Riverside area. They have a tiny parking area wrapped around the building that is a tight squeeze in certain areas. Last week I had the Apple Walnut pancakes which were freaking amazing. The best pancakes I have ever had. I also got the Eggs Benedict which was also good but was something you for sure could just order alone and be completely satisfied with. The mimosa drink was okay, not the best I’ve ever had but it didn’t bother me as the breakfast food was the star of the show. Today I got the #4 which was french toast, 2 eggs and meat(I got bacon) with a side order of the homemade toast. The french toast was good but I would say that Apple Walnut pancakes have been my favorite currently. The eggs, bacon and homemade toast were good but I could just go for a short order of Apple Walnut pancakes next time and be full and happy. I got to meet Sophia as I was dining at the bar and she happened to be waiting on me today. She is very sweet, down to earth and so proud of her son who happened to be cooking in the back today as well. I personally love the design of the place and would come back again and again to try the different pancakes as the Apple Walnut has me hooked!

Oh, how I love Sophia’s! It is definitely my favorite place to go for brunch with a large group of friends! Despite the huge increase in their popularity over the past few years, they have stayed true to their local, family-run restaurant charm. The food NEVER disappoints. They have a great selection of pancakes, french toast, breakfast sides, omelettes, wraps and sandwiches. They serve delicious Bloody Marys and mimosas. They’re also super pretty to look at. My favorite things to order at Sophia’s are as follows: 1. The grilled cheese sandwich on their homemade toast 2. The corned beef hash 3. The spinach, feta & chicken omelette 4. The French Toast You truly can’t go wrong with anything. It is all made in-house with love. The restaurant is decorated with family photos and little trinkets. It’s kind of like going to your grandma’s house and having her make you breakfast. The service is flawless. The servers and cooks are so friendly and welcoming. There tends to be a wait for Sunday brunch, due to the small size of the restaurant and the large number of people who love eating there. They have a waiting area with chairs and coffee. I never mind the wait because I know that it will be worth it. If you don’t visit Sophia’s at least ten times per year, you are missing out.
