I really enjoy coming here during the peak summer months. The grilled food is good the fries are okay. However, I give it a 3 for space and cleanliness. The place is I think considered a shack and its pretty aged. There is seating inside and outside. The prices are pretty much expected with a waterfront food spot. But recently they’ve gained some competition with thr recent additions to the inner harbor. Overall it’s a traditional spot to stroll the boardwalk with your love. There’s ice cream a hop and a skip away from The Hatch. I’ll most likely be here next summer.

5 star for setting and atmosphere. 2 star for my food and service. You can’t beat the view and I enjoyed the music playing as it turned to a bar scene at night. I ordered a cobb salad(substituting blue cheese for the salsa ranch dressing they advertised on another salad). It ended up being served with blue cheese and didn’t have the avocado… which enticed me to begin with. I stood back in line to have i corrected and they indicated they don’t have salsa ranch and then gave me a side of guacamole to add in place of the missing avocado. The guac wasn’t good. Nor was the salad in general. They seem prepackaged — no different than a grocery store salad.

Sept.6, 2015 Had a hamburger and shared a fry with my companion which was very good. Two hamburgers and one fry was $ 16.00. Very causal place. Sat outside at a picnic table. Watch the boats on the water and the setting sun.Nice.Small outdoor bar next to The hatch, with an busy ice cream stand in front. Live music had just finished when we sat down to eat.

Funny this place on the water could be something for all of us BIGBEEF. Your menu chalk board is the bottom of the barrel Printed menu would be far more appealing than slapping a hundred things on the menu. Total confusion Wanted a fish sandwich was informed they don’t do fish sandwiches I ordered the sandwich special for Saturday Turkey burger not bad but at that price a bit over priced Hope the future goes well Ever heard water SEAFOOD!!! I know forty two carnivorous foods on your list so few seafoods One yum I will be back maybe they can cut through the Chaos Here’s hoping

Food was good. Mainly seafood options but they had burgers and a grilled chicken sandwich in the menu. Service was good. Nice outside patio. Large naval boat instructed view of water when sitting outside.

Went to enjoy sun and nice cocktail… very crowded, dirty and then looked at the drink menu: «The Snatch», «The Poopsie Shoot» — REALLY, isn’t downtown trying to attract families or is The Hatch now a sleazy pick up joint??? Got up, went to Liberty Hound and had a fantastic cocktail in a nice environment. Never again…

Today I stopped in as the boats were arriving for The Buffalo Poker Run. The boats are amazing to see. I had the wings and they were awesome. I go out for wings once a week and will post my favorites often starting now. This patio is one of the best in Buffalo!

If it weren’t for the great company we had I probably would only give this place two stars. The drinks are wildly expensive, I mean WILDLY expensive. Three michelob ultras and one vodka soda was $ 38. That’s just stupid. I understand it’s on the water, but it’s a casual picnic table spot with fast food, like stadium food, there’s no reason the food or drinks should be as expensive as they are. The inside where you order food is painfully hot and a little skeevy. Their bathrooms are filthy and smell like marijuana, seriously. I don’t know what goes on in there but they really needed to be better maintained. The view is unbeatable, no doubt about that. Sitting on a picnic table watching the sunset was great and they put some awesome music on towards the end of the night. Yes, I was feeling confident, got up on stage by myself and before I knew it there were 20 others dancing with me. Like I said, great company, but without the fun people the place was very mediocre and emptied our wallets quickly.

I’ve only come back here recently after a few year hiatus, my last visit was a Friday night for a birthday and we mostly stayed at the bar/clam bar. With the nice weather and the after work crowd apparently this place become the home of the Real Housewives of the West Side. The seats were packed, over crowded a bit and people were being their usually public courteous self, taking up extra room and hoarding whatever little space they found. Once we found a 4 top table we could at least nest on our group of 20 or more people just lingered under the canaopy that connects to the bar. Our first drinks order came with no problem, a quick step up to the bar and a short wait however as the night went on so did our wait for the bar. The bartenders were were not credibly organized or respectful with their service. For my second and last drink I stood in line for over 25 mintues as a group ahead of me, rude themselves kept having their friends come up for drinks and doing shots. Once they finally left the bar I was left there standing for another 5 minutes while another patron apparently needed to order drinks one at a time. I’m sure most of my negative experiance is based upon the other patrons HOWEVER the had the bartenders been better organized and worked more efficently there wouldn’t have been a need to queue at the bar like that. Towards the end of the night I moved over to the second building and quickly ordered two dogs. They are obiviously trying to ride the coattails on the success of Frank’s Gourmet Dogs and Dog-e-style however their hot dogs don’t really live up to that par, of Frank’s at least. I mean I will probably be back however it will probably when the crowds are light and certaintly not to spend any time at the bar. I can get cheaper drinks and less crowds at any other bar in Buffalo.

Great location and view but overpriced and burnt food. Just have a drink and enjoy the scene. Find somewhere else to feed your tummy

Meh. An overpriced hot dog stand with a few other menu options on the water. They had a band and full outdoor bar going on the 4th of July. Band was super loud it was hard to hold a conversation at times. Drinks weren’t bad but prices were inconsistent. One person in my group ordered a Pina Colada and paid $ 7 and another person in my group ordered the same and recieved it in a smaller cup and paid $ 9!!! Whoa! Okay, whats up with that? We definitely should of complained about that. Not sure why we didn’t. I ordered their steak and cheese hoagie. For $ 9.50(over $ 10 after tax) it was tiny and very underwhelming. Hardly any steak on it too. Burgers were $ 6 or something like that and looked okay. I’ll give them two stars instead of one for having a decent outdoor bar though you can’t trust the bartenders to give you a fair price. I probably would not come back here with the way they are obviously ripping their customers off.

The only positive I have is that the counter girl who took my order was very nice. The specialty hot dogs are way overpriced for what you get. I got the«Cali BLT» hot dog which has bacon, lettuce, tomato, guac and mayo. First off, my hot dog was charred to a crisp. I know it had to be sitting on the grill before I put in my order. The bacon bits were way overcooked and burnt. The lettuce shreds were way too big for a hot dog. And there wasn’t any guac on my hot dog!!! I had to go back to the counter and ask for a cup. I’m pretty sure I didn’t get any because a kitchen lady had to actually go into the back room and get a refill. What she gave me was horrendous — only half of a side cup(enough for half a hot dog) and the guac was turning brown. I threw out my whole meal… what a waste of money. And btw, the«turbo fries» aren’t actually fries. They’re those coiled potato chip things you see at festivals. Another disappointment. The floor inside was gross and needs replacement badly. But yes, I noticed the newer contemporary light fixtures. I can’t even comment on the outdoors because I was so displeased with my order and left.

Here on the 4th of July. They have a live band but it’s way too loud for the size of the outside area. It’s too loud to talk with someone right next to me. Food: mediocre and priced a little high for what it is. I had one of their chargrilled hot dogs and it was just meh. The bun was hard. Pre made salads seem fresh and were ok. Counter service was slow for only a few people in line. Basically, the environment earned this place a 1 star.

I’m happy to update my review for Hatch. This year I’ve been here in the area a few times, but today I came Sunday midday to eat. Usually I’m here early in the am or later in the day. After consulting with the young gentleman at the register I had the Greek wrap. I was pleased with it. Surprisingly so. That would have been three stars. Good, not great. My dining companion, fellow Unilocaler Krista, also enjoyed her tuna wrap. But then we went outside and sat at a high table with an umbrella and had a fab view of the lighthouse and water all around. The seating with umbrellas and the view got this the extra star. Come here for a nice reasonable food selection, you’re paying for location and view as well, and sit outside and enjoy Lake Erie and the boats all around. Parking is free if you are not towing a boat or other water toys. I’m glad I came and tried this place. I’ll be back for the views for sure, but would not hesitate to grab a bite or even a drink. There is an ATM but they take all credit cards too.

When the weather is good, there is no better spot to bring back the waterfront of the 50s. The key is the fried baloney bad onion sandwich, and some pizza fries. They’ve significantly upgraded the menu and still have awesome waterside tables. It’s a bit tough to find — just keep walking all the way to the end.

Casual food with plenty of seating by the water. The menu and atmosphere are much improved compared to our previous visit here a year or two ago. No longer just fried food. They still have burgers and dogs(with some fancy toppings if you want instead of just plain ol’ hot dogs) but have added a variety of salads, wraps, soups, etc My rueben was tasty and crisp, no2 soggy. My husband’s gazpacho was pretty good too… chunky and a touch spicy. The Greek chicken wrap also gets a thumbs up. The negative… They need to get faster service. The line was out the door and moved at a snail’s pace… But we’ll still be back!

I can’t believe how terrible this place was. My husband and I got the falafel wraps which is not a difficult item to make but they were stale and cold. They have no children’s menu which is ridiculous with the amount of families I saw there. We ordered sweet potato fries that were literally sitting in a bowl of grease. Get your shit together. Your food tastes like it’s from a gross concession stand only triple the price. :)

Editing my review upon second visit: The Hatch has added additional menu options for a hotdog and burger combo. Now you and your wallet can enjoy a great view and a decently priced lunch/dinner. Original review(I had it at 2 stars): The Hatch has been updated for for 2014. I am awarding them two-stars and it’s their new food pricing that drops it that low for me. The venue, location and seating are all great and really make it the reason to come. You’ll be sitting right along the water. They also have an ice-cream stand that I did not purchase from, but it would be hard to find a complaint there considering a frozen treat along the water with their venue is hard to beat. They also have a breakfast menu that I did not look at. Their menu selection has improved, lots and lots of options, but it comes at a price. I was disappointed in my order of The Cali BLT Hotdog — a regular sized Sahlen’s dog in a regular bun with little bits of lettuce, tomato, some chopped bacon and maybe an eighth of an avocado for $ 6.75. This I paired with ‘fresh-cut’ French fries which did not appear to fresh cut, but I didn’t see them prepared. They were $ 3.75. They do not have a fountain drink stand, so you need to buy bottled beverages for $ 2 on top of your food. Doing the math, my regular sized dog, an order of fries and a drink came to over $ 12. I really feel that they either need to adjust their prices or improve the quality of their ingredients to match a more gourmet pricing scheme. A regular hot dog for $ 6.75 is just not worth it. As The Hatch is a restaurant, their food and ingredients do not match their value. Come to enjoy the weather and location, not for lunch or dinner.
