Avenue had their own brand of pizza. Its a heavy saucy why style pizza. Sauce is good. Loaded with pepperoni. Cheese is good. Place needs a update though. Its looks old and abused. Assorted sub was ok. Lunch deal is a slice and give wings for $ 6.

I had a friend named Ava, and this was the best pizza place that Ava knew. Get it? Ava knew? «Oi» said the bloke from London, «yer avin a larf wiv ‘at owwwd pizza mate, ave a new pizza» And so the name Avenue Pizza, was born. Avenue Pizza is legendary in Buffalo and there are probably ten or more locations. I’ve tried a few of them and they all had a high standard of Pizza and Wings. In fact this may well be the go-to place if you want to experience what Buffalo Pizza and Wings are really all about for the first time. This one is by far my favourite. What to get: Slices, Wings. EDIT: THISPLACEIS *NOT* CLOSEDDOWN. It’s ironic because I used to live about a 1 minute walk from this place, literally, but back then it was called Thom’s Pizza and it was good but not otherworldly. Since I moved away, Avenue moved in(think if it as a local chain a la Jim’s and Ted’s, but for Pizza and Wings), and by golly this Avenue really takes the pie, so to speak. This is a very good pizza place, but it won’t be the best pizza place you ever-knew. Get it? Ever knew? They offer two different types of cheese and pepperoni slices and both are magnificent. I recommend getting the beef pepperoni slice because it’s just that good. The pepperoni on the beef version is large and meaty and dark and delicious. The pork pepperoni version has smaller thicker pepperoni which is also delicious and more typically Buffalonian, but not as good as the beef version. They put lots of cheese and plenty of delicious sauce on this Pizza. Make sure you always ask for it heated up, Pizza just isn’t as good when it is lukewarm. Have them put it in the oven for you until it’s sizzling and melting and delicious. The owner likes me for some reason, he said«add me on fb», I was like, I love your pizza, but I still won’t be adding-you. Get it? Adding you? I had their wings a long time ago, and they were fantastic too. I’ll be trying them again at some point in the near future. This is one of the best five slices of pizza you will find anywhere. If you’re in the area, make sure you swing by this location, although it’s not in the best neighborhood, and get yourself a slice. Don’t forget to get it heated up! Delicious! When I met ABBA a long time ago I asked them to sing«Love Me Tender» but apparently«Jailhouse Rock» was the only Elvis song that ABBA knew. Get it? Abba knew? What is it with Pizza in Buffalo? It is simply the best I’ve ever tasted and there are probably 200 good options. My faves are this one, Chuck’s North St, Zip’s Wiseguys on Hertel, Blasdell, Yogi’s in Akron, Franco’s on Eggert, and the best onee of all, Imperial in SoBu. Yogi’s is more Brick-Oven style than typical Buffalo style. I can’t say it enough — if you’re just trying a slice, make sure the Pizza is either straight out of the oven piping hot, or reheated in the oven. Chicago Pizza is amazing, and NYC Pizza is special, but Buffalo, for me, beats them both. Please don’t talk to me about STL Pizza or Cali Pizza(ew). Buffalo Pizza is fluffier, doughier, cheesier, saucier, and pepperonier than anything you’ve ever had. If Chicago is a crusty pie and NYC is a huge flat slice, then Buffalo is quintessential Pizza. It’s just so good. They also do excellent Buffalo Chicken Pizza and Steak Pizzas here in Buffalo. Dreamy. I will stand under oath and swear that Buffalo Pizza is the best in the land. Please don’t ever order Pizza from Domino’s, Papa John’s, Pizza Hut et al. Those major corporations don’t need a penny of your money, and they are bland cookie cutter chains that spend all their money on advertising. Please frequent your locally owned Pizza shops. They need it more, they’re real local people, and the food is almost always wildly superior, anyway. Speaking of Avenue, the owner here asked if he could meet up with me one night to «explore some avenues». I think he just wanted to explore my avenue. If you know what I mean. Wink wink. Nudge nudge. Nom nom nom. Gooble gobble gooble gobble. One of us. One of us. ONEOFUS!
