Decent Mexican food and reasonably priced. FYI– They are no longer at the Broadway location– they moved to Graham Ave.

Ordered my food on seamless, waited an hour and no food arrived, i called and after being put on hold for several minutes was told the food would arrive in 5 mins but the women I spoke to insisted on having me tell her exactly what I ordered again. Another hour goes by and the food still didn’t arrive. Finally it came and still the order managed to be wrong.

Was in the Marcy Ave. area and I wanted to go to Gottliebs around the corner but my friend vetoed that and requested burritos. I found Zocalo via the Unilocal app and figured it was worth a shot due to the 4 star average rating. I wish I had noticed that most of the good reviews were from 2011 and older and because it seems like this place has gone downhill since then. I really wanted to like Zocalo when I first walked in. It is definitely a hole in the wall, with a couple Mexican dudes drinking at the bar right when you walk in, another bar upstairs where people were singing(karaōke?) in Spanish along to the music. It looked to be an authentic family owned and operated Mexican joint(kind of like Puebla in the East Village). Unfortunately, my first impression was the best impression. We walked in around 9:45 and there was one table just finishing up and another pair waiting for their orders to go. Figured we could get a quick, tasty meal and be on our way since it was late. Fast forward 20 minutes and we’re still waiting. At least the waitress came around and refilled our water. Another 10 minutes pass, some chips and salsa came out(the salsa was quite good) and she apologized for our order taking so long. Another 10 minutes pass and we say something to the guy who looks like the owner/manager. He says he’ll go check then comes back and says it’ll be out shortly and that he’s sorry but they’re really busy with all the delivery orders… What? I wish we had just left 30 minutes into waiting, but at this point I was starving, and just waited the extra five minutes for our orders to come out. They brought out the wrong thing for my friend. The food was sub-par and definitely not worth waiting 45 minutes in an empty restaurant for. Next time I’m on the south side, I’m going to Gottlieb’s!!!

Stick to trad mexican stuff(tacos, tortas, tostadas, etc) and it’s very good. Their carne enchilada is especially good.

Kinda sucks to see the negative reviews, although admittedly, I ordered delivery via GrubHub instead of going in & actually visiting the place. That aside, my cheese enchilada was so freaking good, I practically inhaled it. Great red sauce, plenty of rice & black beans on the side, hefty portion with sliced avocados & radishes on top.(couldja slice the radishes a little thinner, though?) So. Good. I also ordered the chips & guacamole to fulfill the order minimum, but barely ate any. One bad side: I asked for extra side of sour cream & didn’t get it at all. For the enchilada, whatever, didn’t need it. For the chips, though, it’d have been nice to have. PS: They list«Mexican Coke,» which I ordered. What I got, though, was regular Coca-Cola(with the high fructose corn syrup).

I made an account just to tell everyone how much this place sucks. Unless you are family or friends of the«restaurant»(if you can call it that) don’t go. All the plates are ten dollars and it’s not because of the portion size. Margaritas are ten dollars for a martini glass full. Don’t bother asking for anything, the one waitress that works there can hardly speak English(can’t say or understand the word«vegetables») shell roll her eyes and put whatever you ask for in the thimble sized bowl. No refills of water and the food tastes like shit.

Oh no!!! It’s as if no one there knows how to cook. The ingredients were fine, but completely without any taste whatsoever. We ordered nacho supreme(supremely blah) and chicken fajitas. They sent out shrimp instead. When the correct one arrived it was just bland grill with so seasoning of any kind. Thank goodness we had beer to wash it down. The price would have been fine –if it was any good, which it was not($ 30, a little pricey for this low-end joint). Avoid, it’s all I can say as my mother taught me to be nice.

This place is great. Better than Don Poncho’s, I mean really a burrito with zucchini in it? Thats just not right… This place is easy to order from but a little pricey. The food overall is good, I liked the black/pinto/red bean options. The nachos are good and the burritos are GRANDE! The menu on menu pages is not up to date price wise so expect to pay about $ 2 more per item you order.

After my first lukewarm review, I gave Zocalo many more tries and I am a devoted fan. I still live within walking distance, and find that ALL of their tacos, the chicken torta and sometimes(when I’m in the mood) the nachos are just bangin’ Still cheap and highly recommended. Not going for the burrito again because it was 98% rice but the tacos and tortas are worth it! I wish they were open later, to be honest…

Quick delivery, HUGE fork&knife burritos. I live about 10 blocks away, and the Zocalo guys are ALWAYS at my door in less than 30 minutes.. . that is a big plus. Their Chicken Mole burrito is only outdone locally by Mesa Coyocan, but that is another level really. All of the Mexican food standards seem to be pretty on-target. One exception, the guacamole is always a little«off» — It is a little thin/watery. Give Zocalo a try, I bet you’ll be happy that you did!

LOVE this spot. I live near here and I choose it over L.A. Burrito any day. When I first discovered I wasn’t thrilled because I grabbed a menu and asked about how far away they delivered. I got a bit of a ‘tude, so I didn’t bother ordering from them. However, I gave them a second try and I’m so glad that I did. The same dude that gave me ‘tude was much nicer. Maybe he was having a bad day or maybe he just hates it when someone doesn’t bother to order. ;) They’re consistently friendly too, so I’m going to chalk that first interaction up as a fluke. I always get the chorizo burrito. It’s HUGE. Seriously, it’s two, if not three meals. I know the place well enough that now I’ll call and just drop by to pick up and go. They also deliver. Yum… considering skipping the gym today and ordering Mexican delivery. ;)

3rd stop on my «Man vs. Food» Mexican joints challenge. So I have this thing about food establishments underneath public transportation. It skeeves me out… but I’ve also been known to eat at just about any taco stand I see in Tijuana… so I can’t be such a fuckin’ hypocrite. Another no bullshit place, small location. Had the al pastor which was OK. The bistec was good. The b/f said the carne enchilada was better at Chavella’s. Well served, decent prices. Nice fellow serving up the tacos. I’d go again, *but* after my options of going to Chavella’s or Tortilleria Los Hermanos were shot down. Bonus points for being located right next to a sneaker shop, where I scored some cool kicks for a cheap price.

I came in at around 11:15 am, and either they had just opened, or they never get sit-down customers at lunch. The owner looked surprised to see me; I had clearly interrupted his morning routine. But he gave me a glass of water, and took my order just the same. As I waited for my tacos, he opened his mail, and we watched the View together. It was a bonding experience. The tacos were beautifully presented. Two neat little cones, covered in guacamole, with limes and beets garnishing the plate and a tiny dish of salsa verde on the side. They tasted as good as they looked. The ingredients were fresh, and the chorizo so tasty that I sobbed like a little girl when I dropped a piece on the ground. The proprietor glanced up, slightly alarmed; I told him that sometimes Whoopi gets to me, and he nodded sympathetically. The two tacos cost me $ 4, plus tax and tip. From now on, if I get on the J/M/Z, I’ll be making a stop here(it’s right next to Marcy).

First: any mexican meal where there is minimal amount of melted cheese gets a thumbs up in my book(I mean, don’t get me wrong… I love cheese, but so many mexican places are just cheese on top of something). We just got back from a dinner there. Where to start. It is an odd space. The bar is downstairs and there is a dining room upstairs — which was empty even though it is Saturday. We started with assorted margaritas that were across-the-board awesome. Very well made(one had a salt and chili pepper rim). For our meal we split an order of chicken flautas — divine. There were also salsa verde and mole tamales that were exceptionally tasty. And then tacos. Their tacos were perfect — and $ 2. Served almost cone-like, they were very easy to eat, hot, and delicious. I had one with spicy pork and another with chicken — both packed with guacamole. Yay. I wish I lived near this place — I’d be there every night.
