The Hen House

Love this place. Staff are very friendly and eager to please. Prices are really good — competitive with fast food but for real cooked food. Love the wings… the wings special is my go-​to comfort food and they’re delicious. Nice if tender juicy… ok well I know what I’m having for dinner tonight.

This is by far the best place in bay ridge for wings. I never say hOw good something is unless I really believe it. On top of that, Raymond was my bartender and he changed my mood from miserable to grateful to be here in the one hour that I was there. He surpassed the level of hospitality beyond my expectations, and made me feel like I was right at home (even though I haven’t ever been here.) I enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere. I will be back

The jerk chicken is out of this world and great customer service.
Also very affordable and clean.

What a horror show. I ordered online at 5:15 p.m. yesterday and the confirmation said I’d get my food between 6:05 and 6:15. We also recommended this place to someone else in our building, because up till now the food has been good and there were no major issues other than long waits from time to time. The order took OVER TWO HOURS, and we found they’d delivered our food to our neighbors who had ordered a little after us. Besides everything else, they didn’t even put the corn bread in. They called later to apologize, but did they offer any incentive to come back? No. Will we come back? No.

I ordered the rotisserie chicken with Mac and cheese. The food was fantastic. Our server was so friendly. Excellent service and food!

The food is okay. I got the full rack of baby back ribs. The sauce is rubbed on top and the meat is not juicy but somewhat tender.
I got the pickup option and the food was ready 20 mins before the time I put to pick up. They called me too early. I mean, if I wanted it early, I would have put «Pick up — ASAP». I didn’t want my food to be ready too early and get cold.

The bbq deluxe burger is great the meat is juicy the bacon is crisp to perfection and the fries are nice and have a good crunch too it. However the mac and chees is a litlle bland and could have more flavor but over all really good food well worth the price.

First time ordering from this restaurant. Ordered through Unilocal.My order was delivered in a timely fashion but the food was completely tasteless. I ordered a ¼ chicken meal with rice and beans as the side. A cornbread was supposed to be included with my order but wasn’t sent. I ended up only eating the chicken, they could of cut it in two; and I reiterate it had absolutely no flavor. Threw away the rice and beans.
I believe this place has potential based on other reviews. They lack quality control.

Did not start off on the right foot. Placed an order on Unilocal.Went there 15 minutes later, the guy was confused and said did not received my order and said the fax machine was down. Since they didn’t received my order we had to order on the spot but that defeats the purpose of ordering online and having the food ready when I arrive. Anyway, at least the food was ready in about 15 minutes after ordering.
Had the Jerk chicken meal with the whole chicken and a side of rice and beans. Also added a side of fried sweet potatoes. The jerk chicken wasn’t too «jerk.» The flavor wasn’t mixed too evenly. There would be spots that are spicy and spots where there was not too much flavor. The chicken was not dry but it actually tasted better leftover. It was actually more savory and succulent the next day. The rice and beans was a disappointment. Tasted kind of like can beans and those one minute rice. The meal came with a prepackaged corn bread/​muffin sort of thing. Something that is readily available at your corner deli. The fried sweet potatoes came as a surprise. The portion was huge and the taste was mouth-​watering good.
This restaurant is more like a fast food joint but prices are fairly high for it to be one. The guy up front helping me was a little clueless and kind of did not know what he was doing. With all this add up, there probably will not be a return trip to this establishment.

Disappointed in food, ordered from here before and it was good. Was Really looking forward to BBQ and was disappointed by very dry chicken along with not very meaty ribs. Price did not reflect quality of food

Great food, great service, great portions, cold beer — what else do you need? Raymond is the man.

3^rd ave… not much happens here during the week since the debauchery ensues at 4pm on Friday til sunrise on Sunday.
When looking for some mid week entertainment, its usually calm. But one place you can definitely count on for a pick me up is The Hen House.
I could go on about how the food is great and the cook does wonders in the kitchen. How they have the best cheese fries or Onion Rings i could find in Bay RIdge, but that’s not what makes this place special.
Any restaurant or food joint can push out great food, but what keeps people coming back is the service and the environment created for its customers. That’s exactly what you can find here. With its great bartenders and servers, (Yes, Raymond I’m talking about you) and loyal customers who clearly keeping coming back because of this same reason. I can come here on a bad day and expect to leave with a smile. The workers here make their customers feel welcome which is tough to find on a weekday, so you can imagine how much more exciting it is on a weekend.
So whenever you feel like you need a spot to just relax, watch a game, have a drink, or just a great conversation, this is the place to go.
And if you do need a laugh ask for Raymond and he just might bust out his Michael Jackson impersonation.

I was literally on my way to the British pub next door based on Unilocal reviews, my picky-​picky little toddler wanted a chicken drumstick and after my «I-​thought-​I-​thoroughly-​cooked-​the-​chicken» mishap in college, I stay away from cooking chicken.
So I was checking out the menu for the Hen House and was invited to come in by someone who worked there. We discussed the menu and I figured out what would be great for the little one, we sat down and within minutes voila it was there. She enjoyed it, but seems to be a vegetarian at heart like me, and I explained we will eat meat until I can figure out how to cook vegetarian meals at home.
Because of coming in on the fly (pun intended) I didn’t really read the Unilocal reviews but I noticed that the sanitary inspection was grade A, they were nice, prices were decent so I gave it a shot.
As an afterthought, I ordered a burger and red beans with rice. I could tell they made the effort and I was happy with my burger (though I have had better) and the rice with beans wasn’t really seasoned/​flavored. I was happy because of the overall experience and great service. Yes, I can be a picky eater too, but it was decent enough that I would be willing to return… that is unless we become vegetarians lol.
It seems to be a popular spot to watch sports, family-​friendly and very easily accessible on the corner of 73^rd. The restaurant is surrounded by glass windows from top-​to-​bottom so random men passing by on the street were drawn into the TV to catch pieces of the game like moths to a bright light lol. Yeaaaa… they pull you in.

the name suggest that there would be good chicken here… on the contrary it’s terrible. The chicken was so dry and over cooked. the side of broccoli was just frozen broccoli reheated and the corn bread had some sticky glaze on top… I always wondered why this place was always empty but now I know. anybody who posts the contrary are either brain dead or friends of the owner… there is no way in hell the food is anywhere near good.
this is for the owner — if you don’t start serving fresh food, you’ll be closed by December…
do yourself a favor and don’t eat here until they change there cheap a$$ ways… stupid. just stupid to serve that kind of food to paying customers.

This was my first time at this place. I ordered the ¼ chicken with Mac and cheese, it also came with cornbread and a drink. The food was overall good. The chicken was cooked well and the Mac and cheese was tasty. The cornbread was on the sweet side so it felt like a dessert that went along with my meal. The portions were huge so we definitely got our money’s worth. The service was decent and the food was cooked quickly. The really only negative thing I can say is that I had a diet coke and it tastes very generic, like an rc cola. Of course I am a diet coke addict so I’m probably just being picky. In conclusion: it’s a good place, go check it out.

I don’t really understand why this place has such a low rating… I went with my boyfriend and friend with a groupon deal that was $ 24 for $ 40 worth of food. We had a full rack of ribs, chicken wings, waffle fries, mash potatoes and mac and cheese. The portions are HUGE and it was not bad at all. I was pretty wary coming here because of the Unilocal ratings but I’m glad I did. The guy serving us was so friendly and kept coming over to make sure that everything was good. This place isn’t fancy so don’t come here expecting a 4 – 5 star restaurant experience. This is a place where you want to bring your friends to grab a drink and some good ribs. I don’t come to this area often but when I do, I will definitely have this place down as an option to go to.

So obviously I’ve been a long time customer but probably not for long.
The sides CONTINUE to royally suck. Delivery CONSISTENTLY takes twice as long since they got a new delivery guy.
The Cajun wrap tastes different LITERALLY every time.
And the chicken breasts are dry, small, and barely seasoned… YOUR NAME IS HEN HOUSE… YOU HAD ONE JOB!

The service is always good. They are so friendly and attentive. The food is very good as well been here a few times and the food is alway fantastic. The ribs fall off the bone and are so flavorful. If you like BBQ this is a must in the area

Oh, it’s like a dagger through my heart when BBQ goes terribly wrong. The sauce was very generic.
The broccoli was limp.
Pretty underwhelming, overall. Would I eat here again? Sure, if I really wanted BBQ; it is nearby. Is it my first or second choice? No.

Love the sweet potato fries! Sometimes my bf and I come here just to have their sweet potato fries, that’s how addicted we are to it. I also tried their rotisserie chicken, rice and beans which was delicious. I like how the beans taste homemade and not like other places where it taste as if they just took it out of the can. I would definitely recommend this place if looking for delicious chicken, rice and beans!
They also serve alcohol now, they have a good selection on tap and has a cozy atmosphere to eat and drink with friends. My new hang out spot in Bay Ridge.
