Grabbed a bacon enoki and lamb skewer here after a late night out drinking. I expected more pieces of bacon enoki mushroom but it was only 4 and they were kind of small compared to Mr. Grill’s. The lamb skewer was really meh. It was two pieces of lamb that had a meatball texture, it wasn’t juicy or succulent. The prices here a little lower than Mr. Grill’s but the food at Mr. Grill’s is better. Incase you do end up coming here for skewers, make sure you call the number first because it’s listed in the wrong location. It’s actually the 49th street address. The number is actually directed to the 49th street shop. There was nothing on 60th and 61st when I passed it.

After a hiatus in the winter, they are back! They’ve switched locations a lot because 8th ave can be «complicated,» but seems to be settled on 8th ave between 60 and 61st. Their cart has shiny new signs that say in Chinese«hong kong bbq» and a cartoon drawing of simon. They usually open around 2ish. Their skewers are so good. I love their squid and chicken gizzards the most. They use a homemade bbq sauce and homemade blend of spices. Tell them you want spicy for a kick. The crowd can get large at times but order and shop in the supermarket behind you! They are the only cart that seems to cook it only when order is placed so it’s not dried out lying on top of the grill the whole time. The cart nearby, 369, fries their food in oil then puts it on the grill briefly to shorten the cook time. Eww. Another good thing: they speak English, good English as well as mandarin and cantonese.

I felt so bad when the owner of the store told me as i was enjoying my skewers right outside of their store front while watching my bike, they were literally forced to leave the street spot they used to occupy due to some corruptive issues. This father and son place has such an upbeat vibe, I guess they really enjoy what they do, the menus offer variety of veggies, sausages, and meats; more than what they used to have in a cart. they’re still using the charcoal for grilling, flavor is just as good! slightly more expensive but i guess they have to foot the overheads.

I used to live in the area and would come home starving at around 3AM. luckily for me, this precious little cart was consistently open. Even during those wee AM hours, Simon and his dad are the most upbeat and cheerful people ever. They’ve been around for so long and their food has always been great. It’s a pleasure to see that their hard work has paid off and now they have 2 permanent stores!(49st and 53st). While most of the other carts on 8th Ave engage their transactions verbally and often forgetting one or two items of your order, Simon’s cart was one of the first, if not only, one that started to take orders down on paper. Like when I saw that moment, I knew they care about customer service. How often do you get people who care about this aspect of the street food biz?! Anyway. Chicken wings, beef, corn, squid!

My guy and I came across this cart on a random cold dayy while walking around on 8th Ave. We ordered squids, chicken, beef and chicken wings. HOLLYYSHIETS. This is one hell of a cart! The sauce on the squid was on point! The next day I returned to the same spot and they weren’t there. We even drove around the block & ave for 15 minutes and didnt find them for the next weeeks. Luckily we spotted them again last night. The girl gave me their number. So next time I’m in need of some kebabs, I’ll just hit them up & see where they’re attt!

The beef is the best. I tried the chicken and lamb as well. They were both good. This«cart» is no longer. They now have a lil store front at 49th between 8th and 9th avenue. I would visit again. Do not go on a school day around 3 or 330… unless you want to be surrounded by a bunch of hungry school kids.

Found this place a while ago while waiting to go on a bus to Mohegan sun. The food stand is across the street from Chase bank & you won’t miss it because there will most likely be a crowd of ppl surrounding it waiting for their orders. There are other BBQ carts all over 8th av but when I saw a crowd around this one I knew I had to try it… whenever you see lots of Chinese ppl around a food place it must be either a) good, b) cheap or c) both good & cheap! The food items include BBQ beef, lamb, chicken, enoki mushrooms, tofu, corn, squid, etc all of which come on a stick and cost $ 1(the corn cost $ 2). You get to choose if you want your items spicy or not… we chose spicy & everything was delicious. The corn was good & sweet as well but I don’t think I’d get it again… for $ 2 I can get 5 corn from the farmers market. My favorite is the beef as it is nice & flavorful. Be prepared to wait about 10 minutes for your order to be completed. This cart is a perfect snack… grab a bubble tea from T Baar across the street and you’re good to go!

Simons dad flagged me down as I was on the prowl along 8th avenue. We will be opened he informed me with glee and a big smile. Boy was I glad like a kid in a candy store. They added BBQ Enoki Mushrooms wrapped in bacon and BBQ Crab Meat wrapped in ham to the menu. Boy this cart hits the spot. If you ever see me I will be there with a big grin and a watermelon smoothie. Just say«Hey whats shakin bacon», if you know what I mean
