Don’t go here if you’re on a budget! Just moved into the area & came here b/c of the good reviews on Unilocal.Scheduled a haircut w/a curly hair specialist. They gave me someone who def knew his stuff. Proud of his knowledge on curly hair & confidence in giving me a great cut. However! This place is getting 2 stars b/c in the description is mentions quality and great prices. I have a pixie cut and was going in for a shape up. A whopping 1 inch was cut from my head and my charge? $ 88! For short hair! I mean I knew Brooklyn was expensive, but come on. When I scheduled over the phone I mentioned my short hair situation and that most salons I go to charge me for a men’s cut. She said something along the lines of I can discuss the price with my stylist. I sort of disregarded the convo b/c I assumed it wouldn’t be that expensive to begin with since the description said great prices. To my dismay, my assumption was wrong. So sad that salons can get away with this pricing. The service was fine but for that I should have gotten a drink along with my cut! I get that this is a business but still. I feel robbed. I at least hope the staff gets paid well for their hard work!

My stylist was Carla, I went in for a deva cut and I love how thorough she was with my hair cut. She told me why she cut a certain part and why at the angle she was cutting which I have never heard of before. She finger detangled my hair which took an hr and a half. In total my session took almost 3 hrs because I have so much hair. My cut costed $ 150 but considering that I paid $ 80 for my last cut with Barbra at Self salon and she left my hair a hot mess I’m not complaining. Carla was very nice, at first she seemed mean but after a while she warms up to you and she is so funny, I will definitely return to her.

I just had my hair color«spruced up» for spring at the Beehive. I always go to Melaina and have been for years. I went blonder and more spunky than usual but wanted to keep it classy. My hair is absolutely gorgeous and exactly what I wanted! I can’t recommend Melaina and the Beehive enough!

Went in for a cut and color. Very helpful and friendly stylist! Got a great color and cut, a nice conversation and a whole list of shops I should visit while I’m in the city. Really happy I stopped by, will go back if I’m ever in town again!

I went into this salon with a really pretty ombré color and medium brown hair. I asked that the blonde in my ends be lightened and just add some face framing highlights… A super easy request that could have been done with a quick balayage process… What I received was… Two huge, orange, chunk highlights, around my face and my blonde Ombré toned down to a medium to light brown(darker then where it started) Because my stylist was trying to tone the brassy orange that was framing my face, she failed to wash out the toner on my ends making them extremely dark.(grey color). Also the orange highlights weren’t toned at all, cause that toner wasn’t left on long enough… All and all my beautiful color was ruined, when all I needed was a subtle change… I contacted the salon afterwards for suggestions on how to fix this,(not even to complain or ask for it redone).simply what the best method would to fix the orange on my head… and got no response at all. Thanks for a whole lotta nuthin Beehive…

Great salon, great people. Beehive is the only place that I will let near my hair. Carla is a first rate pro. I wouldn’t let anyone else near my hair. Great atmosphere, no wait time and a nice neighborhood to stroll through. Everyone from the receptionist to the hair washer is friendly and a delight to deal with. I have to travel all the way from the other side of Brooklyn to get here but I would never go anywhere else. I’m a guy and could get my hair cut for twenty dollars or less but I wouldn’t go anyplace but Beehive. Yes, they are that good!

While the manager and the people there are nice, and the salon has a friendly atmosphere, the service is not of very high quality. The blow dry on my long hair looked like I had tried to do it myself, same for the manicure.

I used to go to the original Beehive off Graham Avenue back when Bean ran it. I had a great stylist and went there religiously. Then the salon was bought around 2008 and moved to N 7th Street. My stylist quickly left, unhappy with the new management, and the ones who hung around were mean and unprofessional. I stopped going. Fast forward 4 years, and I was back in Brooklyn for a wedding and needed a simple blowout. I was staying a block away from the Beehive and figured that you can’t mess up a blowout, so I made an appointment there. Old Beehive, it is not. All the stylists look like Long Island Moms. I was greeted by one woman(I think she was the owner), who put me in her chair, asked me to explain what I wanted and handed me off to the shampoo girl. While I was getting my hair washed, a friend of the first stylist came in and she bumped me to work on her(yes, I had an appointment). The shampoo girl had no idea what she was doing. She used a flat brush instead of round, and gave me the WORST blowout I’ve ever had. Even I can manage better by myself. And this for $ 50+?! Are you kidding me? I went to the Salon Cocoro one street over and they fixed it for less money, after an amazing shampoo and scalp massage. Long story short: don’t go here. They pray on people who fall for their location, but the salon is dead, as far as I’m concerned.

I have wavy/curly hair and didn’t want to pay Devacurl or Ouidad prices. I searched for days for a place that would offer a cut for curly hair(I don’t trust just any stylist) and found the beehive salon. I saw the price list and thought I could manage it. So I made an appointment and they accomodated me the next day. I got Li. And I am so happy with my experience here. The first thing we did was talk about my hair, how it is, what I do to it and what I want from it. I was so happy that she actually wanted to take the time to listen to me so she could give me exactly what I wanted. There is nothing worse than a pushy stylist that forces you to make quick decisions. Once I told her, she worked with my hair and was very cautious to not do too much. She knew I wanted a little shape to my long, grown out curly mess. She worked on the places I wanted her to, and explained her system with me every step of the way. She even answered my random hair maintenance questions while she was working. After everything was finished, my hair was so defined and hydrated, I don’t think my curls have ever looked like that before. I was extremely happy. Li even took off a little more in the back after I requested it and gave me her honest opinion about everything. If you have curly hair and don’t trust yourself enough to cut your own hair, the beehive salon is your best bet. All of the other salons that specialize in curly hair in the city or in brooklyn will charge over $ 100 minimum. The cut was $ 78. and I tipped Li and the girl that washed my hair separately with cash. My hair is now healthy and layered again and my curls look the best they ever have. I don’t get my hair trimmed or cut regularly but I think I’ve found my place.

Alex is amazing. Love the 60s music and décor! My hair was in rough shape from trying to grow out my over processed blonde, chlorine and sun damaged hair. Alex took me to a rich cool and shiny dark blonde that looks and feels amazing. Plus she gave me lots of great tips to stop it from fading. I’ll definitely be back.

I have curly hair. I’ve done the Devachan. I’ve done the Ouidad. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on haircuts and products over the years, and I was never entirely happy. I don’t want polite shellacked curls that stay still. I want big, giant fro hair. I want funky, edgy curls, and no one wanted to give them to me. Till I found Sean! Not to get too bananas about it, but I just love this kid. He’s not easy to laughter, and has a slightly cranky way about him that I enjoy. I always prefer someone who’s himself instead of putting on a big showy, phony affect. Sean gives me EXACTLY what I ask for. He talks me into and out of all the right things. He has a good eye, and plenty of talent, and he really gets and respects curly hair. I just got my fifth or sixth cut from him, and I’m happier and happier every time I leave the salon. The salon itself is nice. It’s casual, and totally unpretentious, which is a welcome change from the SoHo/5th Ave BS curly hair circuit in this fine city. It has sort of a mellow rock and roll vibe. It’s a simple, easy place, with friendly receptionists and hair washers. They don’t do any especially long head massage or anything, but I guess that’s the sort of thing that makes a haircut cost $ 150(devachan) or $ 170(Ouidad) before tipping the 20 people who cut and dry and wash and set and… I’m out the door at Beehive for under $ 100 including pretty decent tips. Mahvelous! The salon itself is nice, but I’m in it for Sean. I’ll follow him wherever he goes.

I seriously lost all my faith in salons. if you want to get ombré its going to cost you over $ 230 even if it is short. My friend and i got ombré and her’s came out great but cost her 230 for shoulder length hair. My came out horrible and my hair is super damaged. I paid $ 260 and it was brassy color. They are not delicate with hair, they tug and pull. I just wanted to get out of there. Dont go to this salon. You could pay $ 200 for a REALPROFESSIONAL to do your hair. not to this rip off

Not a big Unilocaler, but ladies with curly hair: let’s help each other out with these reviews! My hair is kind of Sarah Jessica Parker level of curliness, and I’ve had lots of mediocre cuts with no style and a lot who didnt get it at all. Louie did a very good job and he obviously understands curly hair. I appreciated that he took the time to talk me through his ideas about styling curly hair and using products. Very solid, and I am VERY picky, BUT I’m not quite so inspired by the haircut that I am not back on Unilocal looking for greener pastures for my next haircut. It was a little on the bland end, but well shaped, you know? Like very well made meat and potatoes. That being said, I havent ruled out going back for a cut in the future.

The first time I went, I just went for a bang trim and really liked the girl. The second time, I went for color and a bang trim. The guy acted mad when I asked if I could run to the bathroom quickly before we started(granted, I was 4 minutes late, but still). He then proceeded to chat about our neighborhoods and seemed very condescending the entire time. I felt like he couldn’t wait to get me out of there and just wanted to rush through. Color turned out fine, but I’d rather go somewhere else for the full experience instead of feeling like my hair is still half-wet and like I was a burden.

This place sucks, for realz. I went here for a trim and what I got was the most bizarre hack job I’ve ever had. The back was totally crooked, and the layers were uneven — blunt in some spots, tapered in others. Ugly. Not to mention the woman only half dried my hair. I have thick, frizzy/unruly hair but that is no excuse for being lazy… I get my hair straight and shiny and I’m no hair dresser. Thank goodness it wasn’t expensive but honestly I wouldn’t go back, not even for a trim. They are nice, but nice doesn’t make my hair look good. The last time I got my hair colored(in another salon) they asked what was up with my uneven hair. So there you go.

I came for a blow out about 2 months ago, mainly from the great reviews I saw on Unilocal. The stylist clearly did not know what he was doing. He was clearly agitated that he could not get my hair to stay in waves. He ended up using a ton of hair spray and using a curling iron, and at the end of it cost me 60+ dollars. I wanted a farah fawcett style flip but got a big curly mess ala Sandra at the end of Grease Two weeks later I got a great blow out and cut at Entourage salon in Long Island for 40 and Melissa the hair dresser there did not have to use the hair dryer once to get my hair to stay. I would say there are better places to get your hair done for a lot cheaper.

So, for the past week or so I have have been complaining about the bulkiness and weight of my short pixie cut gone wild. It wouldnt style right, it wouldnt go where I wanted it to go, or do what I wanted it to do… indeed it was time for a cut. So, an old co-worker of mine suggested the Beehive Salon to me out of the blue blue on facebook one day. SOLD, by this point if i hadnt found anything, I was tempted to take my boyfriends clippers to my own head… and no one wants that. SO i scheduled a same day appointment and they gave me directions on where to go and how to get there. My stylist was a laid back busty woman with crazy fire engine red hair and the brightest shade of red lipstick I have ever seen. We chatted about music, movies, fashion and she seemed like she really wanted to get to know me. My consultation for my haircut was very indepth, she mayhave just touched every hair on my head to see what length it was! The shampoo was pretty good, my shirt collar stayed dry ;) I think they use paul mitchell products even though I am accustomed to bumble and bumble or Aveda. My cut went well, She took her time and was very precise with every snip becuase mistakes are easily seen on platinum hair. She also trimmed my neck which I usually have to ask for anywhere I go. She styled my hair as I usually do and gave me samples of new products at no extra cost. Overall I am pretty happy with it and will be going for a second visit soon :)

They charged me $ 67 for a cut with a junior stylist, so I do not know what the deal is with the prices on their site. Surely a junior stylist is at the $ 50 end of their $ 50+ spectrum? My hair has a lot of cow-licks, so it can be tricky, and after a childhood at SuperCuts I can’t pretend that I’ve never had a worse haircut, but … I really look pretty bad right now. Maybe it’s my fault for not insisting on a senior stylist, but I think it is just my penance for trying a new salon.

Come here if you want to find a rad stylist who will then quit to go work somewhere else because the Beehive’s management is so poor that no one wants to work for them. I have had this happen 4 times. All of the stylists are great, but apparently they aren’t treated so well.
