Came here with a friend the other day and I would say this isn’t my favorite Viet place. We ordered two phos and it took longer than we expected since there weren’t many customers. The food portion was smaller than the other places I went to, but whatever. Good service, but not sure if I would come back again.

Came here on a week night, place wasn’t too full. Customers are mainly kids coming in to grab a quick bite. We ordered the Shrimp wrapper Sping Roll with peanut sauce, which tasted very minty and refreshing. The bbq pork sandwich was just okay; had better ones elsewhere.

I don’t even know where to begin. The food was bad, the service was slow, and the line was ridiculous. The only reason they had a line was because of the slow service, the cashier took so long to take down one order and even thier own staff had to wait on a line to get change for the dine in customers. The Vietnamese coffee that I waited half an hour for was disgusting. They didn’t use a drop of condensed milk, all they used was light cream. They didn’t start to make my coffee until I asked them for it the second time. The coffee was disgusting and bitter I took a sip and threw the whole thing away. I finished eating my Vietnamese sandwich before I got my coffee. The sandwich itself was a disappointment. There is so little chicken in there I was wondering if I had gotten the wrong sandwich. I didn’t find chicken until I was in the middle. I didn’t even find anything until my second bite. I will never come back here again, not for the type of service and quality of food I got today.

Best Bunh Bo Hue soup in New York. No frills Vietnamese food done right. The price is spot on to the rest of the country, way cheaper than any of the subpar Phở you’ll eat in manhatten or Williamsburg/Bushwick.

Amazing place! The food is good. And the server is nice too! It is a quiet place to have lunch the place has only 5 tables it is a small place but nice area! All the older servers are nice and friendly! I would highly recommend their shrimp roll(none fried one) they hide little chicken meat in it and the shrimp is super fresh! The picture I’ve showed was the curry soup, I would not recommend that if you can’t have any spicy food! I also order their bread the combo bread I believe is #1 under bread menu this bread never goes wrong! I love it every time I go!

Very simple place. Sis had #3 bahn mi sandwich and I had noodle with egg roll and pork chop. The sandwich was tasty and very yummy. Good deal for $ 6.00. The noodle dish was very good also. The pork was flavorful that my sis said if u have will taste buds the pork would wake u up. It is sweet and tangy with a hint of kick lemongrass and garlic. Overall very good that we took some orders to go so family can try. Décor sucks and table space is limited but hell if I get good food in a dive spot, I count it as a win.

Good lunch option if you’re wanting the crusty tasty viet sandwiches. Has some sitting space, but wouldn’t bring more than 2 – 5 ppl at once. No thrills. Just decent price sandwiches and other items. Would swing by here again if I had a chance.

The first day I came here around 5:30 pm and they tell me they’re out of bread. So sadly I just leave. The next day, I came back a little bit earlier determined to get one this time. Luckily they didn’t run out and I ordered the chicken banh mi. With the first bite, I noticed how good the bread was! It had the perfect crunch. The chicken was really good too. They added black pepper to the meat which added a subtle kick. Overall I was very satisfied with this sandwich and the wait was definitely worth it!

I’m not one for food that is served with a side of plants and these guys definitely don’t whitewash their dishes but it’s still edible. The reason for the five stars is because people that like this kind of food enjoyed it immensely. Also I’m bored in jury duty selection so why not. Personally I had to go to Popeyes after to fill up on fried chicken.

Great Vietnamese food and coffee. The sandwiches take a while so order in advance or be prepared to wait about 10 minutes. Phở is good but they also have different noodle soups so I encourage you to try them out. A nice variety of Vietnamese pastries and desserts are available so of your keen to try something new ask and they can help you pick something to your liking.

If in the neighborhood it’s not a bad place for Banh Mi fix although there is better on 8th Ave. The Phở was ok. It was a little light on the meat

The very first time I had bun bo hue here was about 3 years ago and it was amazing every time! It reminded me of my grandmothers. I really wish I can write a great review about this place but what the hell happen since my last time here? Did they change owner? Changed cooks? Smh! I decided that I wanted bun bo hue this pass weekend since I haven’t had it in over a year(mainly bc my Bf complains about how far it is). Unfortunately the bun bo hue was pure garbage; it was aggressively spicy to the point that there was no real flavor to the soup and I can only imagine how heavy handed they were with the MSG. My soda xi muoi was poorly made; it was so watered down. This place was a huge let down!

Pure trash. My wife used to eat at this place for long time, food was ok, but today. After she bought a Vietnam bread, then she was asked to leave, just because she can’t not eat in there if she doesn’t buy noodle. WTF is this? Should I sue ? My wife is pregnant for 6 month, they asked her to eat outside? That is inhuman. Plus it was not busy time like packed in there. I recommend not to go. And the bread was dry ! It is getting much worse. Stay away from this fking idiot place…

Best Vietnamese place in Brooklyn for me after years of eating Vietnamese in Bk & Manhattan. I don’t exaggerate: * sure prices are $ 1/dish more than Manhattan Chinatown but for it you get: * nice service, Mandarin, English, Vietnamese, Cantonese regularly supported * beef curry soup was so flavorful with soft slow cooked meats, good portions of tendon(the pricey stuff) & meat(i.e. flesh) & veggies, side of cilantro, basil, sprouts & lime wedges was very fresh, always an easy test of a Vietnamese restaurant * same critique for the #2 special big bowl soup; #1 is the same except bigger * Vietnamese Sandwich #1(house special) was the best I ever had: fatty seasoned meats; delicious sauce(their secret); amazing quality bread, their own, freshly made with a combo of super crip, no burnt, airy yet substantial, golden top yet soft white interior, it’s amazingly skilled to make; and nice assortment of light cucumber slices and cilantro to accentuate, perfection indeed In other points, parking’s more plentiful towards 6th Av & restroom here is so-so. I love it, it’s my new eating spot before weekly groceries on 8th Av.

This place has the banh mi ever! I’ve been coming here for years and it never disappoints me. Not only are their sandwiches delicious, their noodle soups are delicious as well. Definitely check this place out!

This place serves authentic Vietnamese food. Trust me, I’m Viet. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue for $ 6.75. It was so fresh and delicious! It tasted just like homemade bun bo hue. It was immensely spicy though. They are very generous with the portions that they serve.

Their viet subs are the best here and decent priced compare to the phos and noodles here. Their noodles is over priced and they don’t give much. I love their durian slush for $ 3.50. I normally don’t like durian but this is a must try! The wait is about 10 minutes for this. The service is REALLY horrible here! The ladies there act like they are Miss America. They give a lot of attitude and yell a lot. It looks like they don’t even want your business.

If I were to review this place strictly on its iced coffee, I’d give them 5 stars. It was delicious, one of the best iced coffees I’ve had. Alas, I had more than just their iced coffee. I also had a vermicelli bowl, which wasn’t that great. Not much pork and the spring rolls tasted quite average. While there was plenty of cucumber, there wasn’t much else veggie wise. I kept on thinking, «If this were in California, it would have gone out of business long ago.» My wife also thought her phở was inferior to what she’s had elsewhere. Overall Thanh Da isn’t bad, and if I lived in the general vicinity, I’d come here to get my Vietnamese fix, but otherwise I’d say pass. And $ 5 for a banh mi? Eh, yeah right, no thanks, especially not for this area of Brooklyn…

Call me magnanimous, but I have been fortunate enough in my Unilocal career so far to not have an experience deserving of a one star review. My heavy reliance on Unilocal when it comes to making dining(and many non-dining) decisions might have something to do with this, since I hardly go to any establishment rated less than 3 stars. Alas, my lucky streak was brought to a sudden halt by Thanh Da, on my 44th review, no less(Asians will understand this). The ordeal began with a craving for hot piping Phở on a dreary, gloomy day. Thanh Da was nearby, and favorably reviewed on Unilocal, what could possibly go wrong? But it was closing in on 4:44 pm, and the sinister number 4 Gods had other plans. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue, which actually didn’t taste bad at all for the first couple bites. But on the 4th bite(of course), I noticed a strand of hair floating in the broth. I was initially unfazed, as I thought it might have been my own, but as I fished it out, it turned out to be a really long, thick strand of hair. It reminded me of hair that you typically find on parts of your body that AREN’T your head. I was incredulous. I immediately summoned the server, showed him the hair, and asked to cancel my order. He said that they don’t do refunds, and pointed out the«No Refunds» sign conveniently plastered on the wall. This of course begs the question whether this is a recurring theme at this restaurant. And after looking through previous reviews I now realize that I’m not the first, as previous reviewers have come across hairs and even bugs in their food.] Not wanting to get into an argument, I asked for another bowl of noodles, to which he agreed, but you could tell he was unhappy about it. I couldn’t bring myself to finish the second bowl he brought out, knowing they probably cook the broth in the same pot, and wondering whether or not the new bowl was really freshly made or simply a remake of my original one. I left just enough cash to cover the noodles and made my way out. The server had the audacity to call out to me as I was walking out the door and say I forgot to leave a tip. Based on many of the reviews here, I won’t deny that they serve passable tasting food, but all the other aspects of their business are completely unacceptable, even for hole-in-the-wall standards. Say no to Thanh Da!

Thanks to Thanh Da, I will never step foot in a no frills/hole-in-a-wall type of place. I was looking forward to grabbing vermicelli from this place based on the rave reviews but that was quickly cut short when I found a long strand of hair in my bowl of Bun Bo Hue… I walked in, there was no server in sight so I assumed I had to order at the register. When I informed her that I wanted noodle soup, she told me to sit down and a server will be right with me. The moment I sat down, a random man who was eating noodles earlier got up and gave me my menu. My boyfriend and I ended up ordering Bun Bo Hue and Cha Gio Thit Nuon. The Cha Gio Thit Nuon came first, it was okay, I’ve definitely had better ones in Chinatown, there wasn’t much flavor, the spring rolls were crispy though. The pork could’ve been more savory, it was a bit bland. The Bun Bo Hue came a few minutes afterward, I took a bite of the beef but then I saw a piece of hair in my noodles. I was in shock, this never happened to me before and I was really hoping I was seeing wrong… I asked my boyfriend to look and he indeed saw the same thing. Feeling intimidated by their never ending paper signs of «NOREFUNDS«being posted everywhere and knowing this was a hole in a wall kind of a place I knew customer service was the last of their priorities. I wasn’t sure what to do, whether I was even allowed to complain or request them to take the noodles back. My boyfriend told me that I’ve probably eaten worse food from the streets and what not so we were going to suck it up and ignore it. He was taking the strand of hair out of my noodles only to find it was a REALLYREALLYREALLYLONGSTRAND. That cut it. That was it. There’s NOWAY I’m eating that bowl of Bun Bo Hue!!! The table next to me even saw our hair and their eyes got wide open as well. I immediately lost appetite and tried to look for the server. He was no where in sight, he came out a few minutes later and I caught his attention and showed him the hair. He had a confused look as to what happened and I told him a few times that I found the hair in my soup, he was still lost about what was going on until the people in the table next to me had to explain it to him and tell him that they saw the hair too… He asked me what I wanted to do about it. I asked him to replace it or exchange it so he took it back but I could tell he didn’t really want to. The guy from the next table paid the check and was on his way out and told the server that he saw the truth that the hair was really from the noodles and not from my head. I can’t believe that the server didn’t believe me and wanted me to continue eating the noodle soup EVEN after I found the hair in it. This establishment failed in business 101; no matter what the customer is always right. I honestly didn’t want to get another bowl but knowing it was no refunds only I’m 100% sure he would charge me for the noodles regardless. A few moments later, a «new«bowl of Bun Bo Hue arrived. I examined it very carefully to make sure it was clear of any hair. But for some reason I had a feeling they might have spit in it or it was the same bowl of Bun Bo Hue that I sent back, just reorganized… Guess I’ll never know. ignorance is a bliss right? I tried to be in a better spirit even after this disastrous meal but the ambiance was killed by loud cashiers screaming into the phone as they take orders and more people in the background screaming about the Bun Bo Hue being sent back. It also didn’t help that the server gave me the stinkeye the whole time while I ate. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable and unhappy eating at a restaurant than I have at Thanh Da. My boyfriend saw this and when we paid, he decided to not tip. The server tried to stop us from leaving and demanded for gratuity. We left regardless because of how angry my boyfriend was and how upset I was from this meal. I would avoid this place at all cost, seriously how can you run a business like that? I was even open to giving them a second chance even though they didn’t deserve it. This place might be a mom and pop but they are not run by hospitality. The staff is rude and they’re just out to get your money. TLDR: Dirty food with hair in it, horrible service and no refunds not even if the food made you puke.
