I have been a patron of Rice Since it opened more than 20 years ago. I have endured poor service, raw chicken Satees, chincy cheap staff who are always looking to cut corners and upsell you, the unwillingness to customize food for vegetarians, poorly packed takeout etc. But its close by and a good standby so I presisted… UNTILTODAY! I went for lunch with a date and was embarrased by the head waiter who loudly told me that they would not serve my dish as it was not in the computer and that they wouldnt do it anymore. This is a dish i have ordered over the last 20 years. Sometimes with the same waiter. Now, its a basil sauce with mix vegetables. How hard is that? No need to go rouge buddy. Just charge me if thats what you want. But no. So i will go elsewhere for my basil vegetables. I will be sure to spread my negative experience on the slope. All other Thai restaurants do a little customizing. Boooo Rice!

Came to this place once and had to walk out because the wait staff never came for 20 minutes. We decided to give it a second chance, since we love thai food and it’s convenient to our place. There were only 2 tables seated when we came in, yet we had to call the waiter to approach us. Then, we could see our food ready sitting on the kitchen counter, yet it took another 10 minutes to reach our table(there were 4 tables seated by then, including ours). The food was OK, just generic thai, nothing outstanding. They probably know that their service is terrible, because when we got the check, 18% gratuity had already been added, for a party of 2. The good thing is, we won’t be making that mistake again.

I really like this place! I order the pad see ew(probably spelling it wrong) looooove it. Literally the only Thai place I enjoy it from. I always find myself comparing every place to rice thai. It’s just never as good. Pineapple fried rice is to die for. I need to come back soon!!! Chicken wings are delicious. Dumplings are awesome. Love it here.

Just ate from there today with mi lady. She enjoyed the Garlic chicken dish, I ate the Chicken in Peanut Sauce. Also had the Vegetable Thai rice. All the dishes were excellent and the prices were fair. Portions were descent. Nice ambience, was cool as well as the staff. Will definitely go back again.

I’ve gotten food here a few times and haven’t had a horrible service experience(maybe because I get the food to go), but the food really isn’t great. It’s pretty oily and the brown rice smells like it was steamed with dirty water. I always feel like I’m in danger of getting food poisoning after eating. There’s plenty of good Thai food around so I don’t think I’ll be ordering here anymore.

I have come here multiple times and they never disappoint. Their food is delicious and their wine is great. Would have liked more variety on the alcohol but overall, this place is great. It is my ride or die.

I’ve come here a few times and enjoyed my experience. It’s nice when you can sit up front by the open windows, since the rest of the interior is a little dark and claustrophobic. The food is quite inexpensive and portions are nice for the price. I love their curries, especially the salmon in red curry. Lunch special is meh, limp lettuce, luke warm soup. The last few times I was here I was annoyed by loud and even belligerent clientele but I don’t suppose the restaurant can help that.

I loved the vegetable red curry. It was simply delicious, great portion for about 10 dollars. I also got a side of white rice for a dollar and it was excellent Highly recommend it. Great service as well!

I work down the block so I order from here a lot. I can honestly say the food is just ok, nothing special. I’ve tried several of their dishes including pad Thai, drunken noodles, and a few of their vegetarian dishes. Everything tasted fine. The deliveries are always prompt. The one time I did eat at the restaurant wasn’t amazing because they were very busy and the service wasn’t good at all. We waited forever just to have our orders taken. I would continue ordering from here if I have no choice, but I prefer other Thai places over this one.

Eh. Chicken satay was decent and the red curry was pretty good. Tom Yum soup was awful — glad I asked for extra spicy or it would have had no taste at all. Duck roll was disappointing: I was expecting a crispy exterior and got a flour tortilla basically and the filling was rubbery and tasteless. The dipping sauce was good. Best part of the meal was the $ 5 pint of beer.

We just moved from DC and couldn’t be more delighted with the experience! Great food, fantastic value and the fried apps were cooked to perfection. Seriously the best wontons ever. We will definitely be back. Not too crowded– no wait and good service.

Got lured in by the cheap lunch special — don’t make the same mistake! It smelled weird inside, but there were a lot of people there so we figured it must be decent. Wrong again! The food was overall pretty blah, but the seitan was THEWORST I’ve ever experienced. They clearly had no idea what to do with it and shouldn’t have tried. It was crispy and chewy at the same time, and not in a good way. Service was also meh.

The WORST!!! Avoid!!! The restaurant was completely empty, yet the food took forever to arrive! One of the entrees did not taste good, we asked for it to be returned, and asked for something else. The waiter kept disputing the taste and did not want to take it back. He eventually did. The food tasted good it was purely terrible service. After the meal, they did not want to remove the uneaten dish. I will not be back.

Tom Yum soup is sooo good. All the prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food. They were out of the wine we wanted, so they gave us a more expensive bottle for the same price! Will definitely come back.

Went here for lunch. Ordered and waited 25 – 30 minutes until I asked for an ETA. That’s when they realized they forgot to put in my order even though the place wasn’t crowded at all. Fine. Then they put a rush on my order and I ended up getting the wrong entrée. Rather than wait any longer, I accepted my incorrect dish. Super bland on what is a consistent dish at any other Thai place I’ve been to. I would give it 1 star. The only saving grace was that the waitress apologized and offered me and my friend a free Thai Ice Tea each. She accepted… but I couldn’t take anything else from this place.

I have been coming here for years now. If you are looking for an affordable, and good Thai restaurant with a nice ambiance, this is the place! I also come here out of convenience because it’s close enough to my home. The chicken wings, and curry puffs are their best appetizers. The wings are different with a sweet, tangy sauce and incredibly crispy. The puffs basically melt in your mouth, and are not overwhelming. Massaman curry with sticky rice hits the spot every time. CONS: The waitress brought me my check and did not even ask if I wanted dessert. I know I was New Years(holiday) but as a customer, why be deprived of my coconut rice pudding!!! It was frustrating because my first question as I sat down was, «do you still have coconut rice pudding in those small cups?! :)» Another recent experience that made me upset that I felt I needed to add in this review is when my Mother said that she did not want rice that was spicy. Her entrée had bell peppers, and instead of a bell pepper, it was an extremely hot pepper used for the entire dish. My Mother was sick, the waitress had an attitude(even before the pepper). She loves spicy food but this was extreme. Her nose was running, eyes watering, and entire face was red. We brought this to her attention, and as opposed to bringing my mom a lemon, or a glass of milk, she did nothing. She did not even refill the water(not that it helps). She did offer a free dessert to help(I guess this was nice). The manager was walking around, did not apologize(felt like he should have). Did I mention it was the same waitress? She was all smiles for the men sitting next to us.

I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve been living in the Slope for over 3 years now and I only just recently tried Rice. It’s really a shame that I’ve been sleeping on this place because their food is quite good. I had the Tom Kha soup and Pad Ki Mow(Drunken Noodle), and both were very flavorful. The soup was not the spiciest I’ve had, but it had decent kick and the broth was rich and hearty. The noodles were excellent, very savory and well prepared. I would have appreciated a slightly bigger portion of the noodles, but it was acceptable. I have been a devout customer of Sai Thai Kitchen since they opened, but my allegiances may have been thrown into question after this meal. I look forward to exploring more of the menu to really see what’s up and decide who will wear the crown.
