I came here the first time after the opening night of my partner’s show at the nearby Gallery Players Theatre. Even though it was close to closing, they welcomed us with open arms, delicious food and strong drinks. They stayed open past closing for us, which was awesome. I chatted up with the bartender who told me how they had just remodeled, started a new menu, brought in all these great new ideas to help what was apparently a flailing restaurant(I had no idea, since I don’t often frequent that area of the slope). Decided I had to come back, and soon! Enter Mother’s Day. I get my hankering for good Mexican/Cucina Latina from her, so I figured why not? We were back in the area to see the show again, so I was overjoyed when I called the day before and found out that they could accommodate us for dinner. Once again, Piramide, you managed to outdo yourself! From the tableside guacamole to the meals, to the drinks, everything was delicious. My mom is still raving about this place, and is actually looking forward to the next time she is in Brooklyn(imagine that!) The only(one) thing is that on Sundays, they seem to have a live music band. the music can get LOUD. But after a while(and a few Margaritas, lol!) you don’t notice too much! Definitely get the $ 2 tacos, the guacamole, and the«con arroz» :)

Dear Piramide, No!!! Best, Kass I came here, after stating in my last Unilocal review of this restaurant, that I would not return. I take full responsibility for my mistake. It seemed as if there was a change in management from the remodel of the exterior of the restaurant and new specials, so the other night I thought«why not, they must be under new management. Let’s give it another try maybe now the place has been improved». Absolutely a mistake. We came in in the evening and the place was pretty empty. Only a couple of individuals at the bar and three other tables eating. Everything looked clean, the music was pleasant and at a decent level. The tableware was beautiful and neatly set. And that’s where the positive things I can say about my experience ends. The waitress took our orders politely and then walked away. We didn’t get water initially and 15 minutes into our wait for dinner, she brought over chips and salsa and told us she was sorry, because she forgot to bring them before. Our waters emptied pretty fast during the meal and were never refilled. We both ordered enchiladas, I the chicken enchiladas($ 15), and my husband the chicken, shrimp and mole enchilada entrée($ 17). My enchiladas just consisted of peculiar flavors. It wasn’t bad, it wasn’t poorly presented, it was just a mixture of weird and plain. The rice and beans were okay. No complaints for that I guess. Compared to what my husband got, I struck gold though. Have you ever eaten a meal and not been sure what exactly was happening inside of your mouth? Like the food looked good, and initially you think it tastes good, but as you chew the seasoning and flavors unravel and SURPRISE! … it sucks? *_* That’s what happened here. His first enchilada, shredded chicken with green sauce. The sauce was salty. Really salty. The inside of it wasn’t bad. But it was difficult to eat with the sauce over it. The shrimp enchilada in the red sauce. They served him old shrimp. He ate it and kept saying it tastes weird, and that they must have used a weird seasoning. Nope, it was the shrimp. The shrimp smelled like old fish. Shrimp shouldn’t have such a powerful smell like that. The mole enchilada. I have never ever seen my husband nearly gag food out. He was brought up to eat what he was served, and hates complaining, and never leaves a plate empty. Last night I saw him unravel the enchilada and just eat the insides and left the rest there. I tasted it and can confirm it was very bad. The food overall just tasted strange. We were so confused after we were done eating. The platters were so small, and so peculiar, we kind of just ate them out of curiosity– trying to figure out what the hell was put inside? To add insult to injury our server started serving the two other tables drinks and food and we waited 12 minutes for our check. When we got it, she charged me $ 1.00 for sour cream she never indicated was extra charge and $ 2.50 for a can of ginger ale. This is probably the worst Unilocal I have ever shared and hopefully the last one this negative. I am sorry that my review is even worst than last time. I’m sorry because I REALLY wanted to like Piramide. I really wanted to have a local Mexican spot with amazing food and service. I really wanted to see this place redeem itself. To be fair I’ll give myself one star too for not bringing all of this to the attention of the staff when I was there. It was 9:30 pm I had laundry washing across the street, and I was in shock about the entire thing. So I boo myself for that. But that does not excuse the bad experience we had. They are over priced, the portions are smaller than reasonable, the service is lacking and most importantly the food is not good.

I stopped in for a Thur. night snack. Half the dining room was taken up by a Poker party. That’s fine, however, as I only wanted a nibble and so I sat at the bar. Just be aware. Service was again inconsistent. The bartender wasn’t sure of the liquors they had, so I had to point stuff out. I wasn’t super hungry so I ordered the smallest appetizer. tostadas. They were o.k. I wanted something with more character and these were mostly chopped up Mexican chorizo in hot dog form. I actually think this place under-achieves when it comes to food. They do have a good cook in the back but things never really come together as they might. Bits of great. Bits of blah. No harmony or strategy. For example, the two guys next to me were getting served chips and salsa, which was never offered to me. My cheap bar appetizer + two simple cocktails cost $ 28. That’s a bit of a rip-off when the other establishments nearby sell mixed drinks for $ 5. The bottom line is the prices are out of line with the quality of food and service. I should have joined one of the poker tables. might have had better luck!

Went with some friends on a Friday night and easily got a table at 8:30 so that was nice, but it was also telling that other restaurants along 5th avenue were packed. The place filled up after awhile so it was a little more lively. From a service standpoint, everyone was super nice and very friendly, just a little slow. Drinks took forever(though the waitress explained they had only one bartender) but getting a bottle of beer also took a long time, which I didn’t understand. The food was pretty good, although that also took awhile. We had a variety of dishes and everyone was satisfied but not blown away, although my nachos with chorizo was actually pretty good. They are trying to do more things like trivia, poker and karaōke to bring more crowds in so I think that’s good. I would probably go back here because the service is nice, even if it’s a little slow and the food is okay. If you had a group of people and wanted to have pitchers of margaritas and some Mexican food, this place would serve that need nicely.

Went for my birthday and it was poker night so they had 3 tables of poker tables in the back, which was weird but interesting and friendly. The owner, Lori, was hospitable the whole time. The food was good — nothing amazing but I enjoyed my sizzling fajitas. The guac is made fresh and they had a salsa dip that was divine! The nachos tasted like a Taco Bell Mexican pizza(which I’m not complaining about) but don’t expect a pile of nachos, like we did. Affordable and comfortable atmosphere in Park Slope.
