Just returned back to NYC after spending 2 weeks in Vietnam. Travelled all the way from Hanoi to Saigon. So I wanted to have some Vietnamese food upon my return, since I have been really enjoying it there. What can I say… whatever they served in this restaurant Vietnam doesn’t have. Tasteless, blah. I have no idea what I was eating. Please stop with your good reviews, go to Vietnam and taste it for yourself. Staff is really rude and inattentive. I am still in shock. The worst place ever. Please learn how to serve your dishes. I felt like I knew a bit more about their food after taking couple of cooking classes. Oh, yeah and fix your bathroom sign.

Vermicelli noodles with grilled pork, veggies and fish sauce. The portions are way bigger than 8th ave. My friend’s phở dishes were huge! We were seated right away and the food came out extremely fast. It felt like 5 minutes later, which was perfect because we were all starving! The tea service was also fast and we didn’t feel rushed to leave after finishing our meal. We sat for a long long time after finishing our meal, we eat fast!

My go to Phở restaurant in Brooklyn! I used to go to Phở Tay Ho but their quality went down these past few years. Spring Rolls and Bun Bo Hue is my usual here. Their broth is way better than other phở places in the area. The spring rollls here are also very filling although a little small.

There are 2 Viet options on Avenue U — Phở Vietnam or Phở Haoi. If you live WEST of the Q train tracks, chances are that you go to Phở Haoi. If you live EAST of the Q train stop chances are that you go to Phở Vietnam and I fell within the latter group. I’ve been to both and, honestly, they both are equally as good as each other. In fact, their menus are exactly the same! However, this review is for Phở Vietnam, so I’ll end that Phở Haoi talk. Phở Vietnam has always been a reliable meal option for me. They always have open tables at all hours of the day on any day, their service has always been quick, the restaurant is comfortable and quiet and, most importantly, the food has always been good! This restaurant is not huge, but it’s not small either. It probably seats at least 50 people inside and, the great thing is that, it never gets extremely crowded. There are times, usually for dinner, when the restaurant will be 2⁄3 full, but never will it be at capacity. There are also 2 flat screen TVs in the restaurant and, at opposite ends, which will usually be broadcasting ABC. I’ve been here for both take-out orders and sit-ins and the service has always been good. I’ve always sat down and the menus used to follow immediately. The menu is very typical, if not the same, as every other neighborhood Viet restaurant in Brooklyn and Queens. You have your typical big Phở/Rice noodle beef soup bowls, vermicelli bowls, rice dishes, Vietnamese spring rolls, summer rolls, etc — you name it and they have it. My personal favorites here have always been to start off with an order of Vietnamese spring rolls, just to wet my appetite, then move on to either the Xe Lua(combination extra big bowl/#1) or the Com Suon Nuong/grilled pork chop on white rice with a fried egg. You can’t go wrong with either, especially the extra big bowl for winter meals! If you’ve never been to a Vietnamese restaurant, Phở Vietnam is a great place to start! FYI: This restaurant closes pretty late at 11pm so it’s great for people who are looking for a late dinner.

This place is so close to my apartment so I’ve been here a lot of times. When I’m too lazy to cook this is the restaurant that I always get my delivery order. Last night I came here with my boyfriend. I ordered shrimp phở to go. I’m always in a doubt to order soup for to go because I feel like its a lot of work & some restaurant put the noodle & soup together so when you get home the noodle is soak with the soup & its not gonna turn good for the noodle texture. Good thing that this restaurant separate the noodle from the soup & veggies. When I get home the soup is still hot & the vegestable is good. I got some drinks too the lychee drink & some shaved ice with black beans & jelly inside. It taste decent. I love this vietnamese restaurant! Its very affordable, good costumer service & restaurant owner is nice! Always going back!

Phở Vietnam offers one of the most authentic Vietnamese menus I’ve seen in NY. There’s a lot more than spring rolls, summer rolls, and phở. We started with fried egg flour cake and a Vietnamese style pancake. The former was scrambled eggs with scallions and small cuts of rice flour cake. It came with a delicious violet colored vinaigrette. The dish had a fluffy texture. I liked simplicity of it. The Vietnamese style pancake was more like an egg tortilla quesadilla with shrimp, bean sprouts, scallions, and ground meat. Be careful, the eqq tortilla retains the heat very well which keeps the contents very hot. The flavors were a bit subdued, so I added the vinaigrette from the other dish as well as some of the chili flake sauce; both amped up the flavors immensely! For the main course, we had vermicelli noodles with sliced beef. The beef was wrapped around onions giving it a nice contrast of textures between the crunchiness of the onion and the softness of the beef. Overall, you get a lot of food and flavor for your money. Another big draw is the menu which features items which are not too common around NY.

Ordered: Bun Bo Lui, Bot Chien Tieu Chau, and Banh Xeo Pros– All the dishes were full of flavor. The Bun Bo Lui(vermicelli with beef) had the beef enveloped over onions with a light oil-type fish sauce. The blandness of the vermicelli balanced out all the flavors. The Bot Chien Tieu Chau(fried egg flour cake) essentially tasted like home fries and eggs but it was well cooked. The Banh Xeo’s(vietnamese style pan-cake) inside was filled to capacity with bean sprouts, scallions and shrimp. Cons – The service wasn’t as attentive as they should have been.
