The staff here are very friendly and helpful. Great at helping pick out a bottle of wine, or other specialty spirits. They’ve helped me pick out new wines to try on numerous occasions, and I’ve liked every one of them. Their liquor selection has all of the basics plus some new items every month. One of the best wine/liquor spots in the area.

Not a huge selection, but right as he was turning off the lights a little after 9pm on a Sunday, he straight up turned around and said take your time. Thanks man! And prices are definitely on the low-mid range prices. That’s what I’m talking bout!

Airly and open, Old BK focuses on value wines. You will never feel upsold in this place. Lots of daily drinker wines from Germany, US and France. They also have a great liquor selection. Perfect for home dinners and lazy afternoons. They do run out of stuff though, it’s worth to call before making a trek. If you’re looking for unusual wines(Scholium, Jura, etc), walk the extra five minutes to Scotto’s or Smith & Vine.

This store has decent selection of low-to-mid-range wines. Very few on the higher end(i.e. over $ 20/bottle), so not a great place for a nice occasion. But a good place if you just want to grab a cheap bottle of something drinkable. Also not great for party prep(see below). In terms of hard liquor, there are times when they have a decent selection, and more times when they’ve sold out of almost everything and don’t know when they will be restocked. Service ranges from alright(«Fine, I will stop watching TV to talk to you; I can give a brief overview of most things») to terrible, depending on who you get and what mood they’re in. Two in the terrible category: They’ve instituted a new policy where if you spend over $ 50, they ask you to sign 2 different credit card receipts, thereby authorizing the store to charge you twice. They don’t ask for ID; they don’t check your signature; they just ask you to sign two separate receipts(one electronic, one imprint; they say they will not actually use the imprint one, but you still have to sign it). I know, what? When I attempted to explain, nicely, to the cashier that the policy would enable to the store to charge me twice if they chose to, she: first acted like I was being an idiot(um, nope, I just read the things I sign); then told me that the imprint receipt«just says the credit card number is accurate»(not true; the fine print explicitly authorizes a separate transaction); then proceeded, unasked, to laboriously itemize the imprint receipt, taking several unnecessary minutes to do so — presumably so she could emphasize what a pain in the ass she thought I was being(and itemization of course did nothing to address the actual issue); and finally, told me to call her boss when I tried to explain again what I meant. No conversation, no engagement, no sorry-to-do-this-to-a-regular, just a big«f*ck you for actually reading what you sign.» Yeah, so there’s that. My advice: bring cash. Another time, I was there buying a few cases of wine for a party I was having that evening. Since I was buying a lot, the store offered to deliver. «Great,» I said, «but I’d need the delivery within the next half hour. Can you do that?» They said they could. And then showed up 2 hours later, AFTER my guests had arrived. Not cool. At all. But, again, the attitude was that I was being totally unreasonable to expect the delivery to be on time. I know… so crazy to want the booze there BEFORE your guests! So… I’m giving other wine stores in the area my business from here on. Fortunately, there are some GREAT wine stores in Red Hook, and they just gained a few grand a year in business.(God, I’m a lush!) Suggest you check those out.

OK for an «emergency» bottle of wine(or running out of wine at Petite Crevette, which I’m sure must make up at least half of this place’s business). Otherwise, there are much better wine shops in the neighborhood – e.g. Scotto’s. The selection here isn’t great, the people working there don’t know much, and more than once I’ve had them push a bottle on me that was explicitly not what I had asked for, leading me to think they were just trying to get rid of whatever they had too much of. Again, it’s totally fine for a last minute bottle, but I try not to go here if I can avoid it.

This store is a welcome addition to the wine stores in the area. It is fresh, new clean and modern. The owners are always there and willing to help you pick out the perfect bottle without the slightest bit of wine-snobbery. They are laid-back guys that can often be found hanging out watching TV on their large flat screen or relaxing and playing some video games in between customers. They have a fantastic selection of wines and their wine of the week is always a crowd pleaser.

simple and sleek, this little space is a welcome addition to this stretch of union street. nice staff, good selection of wines and such at very reasonable prices. seemingly open whenever you need them to be. i only mourn the fact that they don’t carry any lambrusco, but i will see what can be done about that.

Brightly lit, sleek looking wine & liquor shop in Red Hook. Nice selection of wines at decent prices. But the best part, they’re open late! — at least until 10pm on weekends. Oh, and conveniently located nearby the BYOB Petite Crevette around the corner.
