The worst service. I totally understand that they are Polish and it is part of the culture not to be friendly, but come on! You are in the US now learn customer service! I went there many times because sometimes I like their soups and they very close to where I live and work, and they just simply ignore you, you can stand there and wait and they just won’t look at your and they can do other things and ignore you. Then they would never smile and serve this dish to you as if you owe them. I could stand all that, but the ignoring part totally upsets me.

I had the cheese blintzes, which were amazing. The service was very good — they spoke both English and Polish fluently and very patiently explained the different Polish foods to me. All for a fair price and a nice atmosphere. Definitely coming back!

Great coffee for $ 0.90 a cup, delicious baked goods, excellent bread and amazing lunch. A couple of pirogi, potatoe pancakes, stuffed cabbage, and a coffee for less than $ 6! You’ll walk away from this place with a full stomach, a smile on your face and lots of money still in your wallet. A real gem.

Go for the green meat… stay for the bad attitude I work in the food industry… and I have never left a bad review of anyplace… but then again I never recieved green meat… the girls behind the counter are cute… but no patience. I pointed at the glass counter and asked what is that… she said veal… I said great. Unfortunately what she put in the plastic tray is not what I was pointing at… I said sorry thats not the one i wanted… she said no problem looked at me and threw it in the garbage…(not sure why she couldnt just put it back, and throw out the plastic container?) I said whats the one the front. her responce…“not veal”… In any case being made to feel like I wasted their time, I took my mystery meat home… to find it was green… Yep right in the garbage… along w everything else I bought there. Wont be back

Excellent Easter mazurek(5 stars), strangely dry Easter babka(2 stars). Would definitely come back to try other items though, to be fair.

Neighborhood bakery full of great breads and a solid polish food line that’s always serving. They also have some decent desserts and pastries that include cheesecakes and cakes.

I love this place, love the bread, the coffee and the eggs. Have recommended it to many people and we all feel the same way, if the staff was friendlier, it would be much more appealing. Sometimes I feel that they are bothered by the fact I am there, they can be super friendly with their fellow Polish men, but not with me or my friends. The owners need to talk to the ladies at busy bee across the street! the friendliest people in the neighborhood, who will always have my business.

I love this place. I work from home and, honestly, it’s a struggle to not eat lunch here every day. I have a crippling weakness for steam table anything, so Northside really hits the spot. I’ve never REALLY cared for Polish food, but you know, being a Greenpoint resident who makes next to no money, it’s time to get with it. From the steam table I’ve had: the pork cutlet and chicken cutlet(both like schnitzel); cheese, meat, and saurkraut/mushroom pierogies; roasted chicken; roasted potatoes; gravy; green beans; others I can’t remember. I’ve also had their coleslaw and red cabbage. I have to say, it’s all pretty spectacular for a place that gives you a quarter super-moist roast chicken and two giant ice cream scoops of mashed potatoes with gravy for $ 5. Also, there is free sliced bread from their bakery to go with your meal if you decide to eat in. And you should. Lots of people from surrounding businesses come to eat here on their lunch break. I’ve also gotten the seven grain bread and the healthy seeded bread and both are outrageously good. They also have under-$ 1 coffee and their sweet baked goods look great, and are always out by the end of the day. Wouldn’t be surprised if they supplied most of the delis in the area with their poppy seed rolls and doughnuts. Despite having tried a lot of the other things, I’ll probably never stray from my standard order of pork schnitzel with gravy and a side of three pierogies. If you get the cutlet when they’ve just brought it out, the crust shatters. Shatters. If you like good, fast, salty, abundant comfort food, just add this place to your neighborhood repertoire. It’s not gourmet but, um, whatever.

I’ve been coming to Northside Bakery since 2009 and I have to say, this place is as good as it gets! My boyfriend works a few blocks away, so we come here for lunch and dinner often, I’d say once a week… and I love this place. The women who work behind the counter are friendly, and quick, and offer service in both Polish and English(I speak only English)…from the four daily soups(I recommend the red borscht or the white vegetable) to the delicious pierogies(vegetarian with potato or meat-filled) to the amazing selection of by-the-pound sides, this place will fill you up for such a perfect price, that its a wonder you can always find a place to sit inside. We usually go with the stuffed cabbage, cheese pierogies, red beet salad, saurkraut, roasted potatoes, and blintzes for dessert, all of which are stand out(and this coming from a gal who grew up with two Polish grandparents). They also have great pastries and cakes, being that they are the Northside bakery… I recommend the vanilla wafer cookies and the homemade brown bread. Just for an example of how crazy inexpensive this place is: Tonight, we shared a large piece of stuffed cabbage with all the aforementioned fixings(4 pierogies, 2 kinds of salad, and 5 potatoes), plus two glasses of fruit juice(SOREFRESHING!), and two blintzes and a bag of cookies to take home… all for $ 15. So if you’re in Greenpoint, make yourself happy, go to Northside Bakery.

I received a friendly note from the owner of Northside Bakery thanking me for my review and mentioning that she’d hoped I’ve seen an improvement in the service. I have to say that indeed I have and so I’m adding a star.
