Small mom pop place but to me this is like a hidden gem. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and for the price and quality this place is in my top list for breakfast.

Nothing has changed. Really nothing. I have been coming here all my life and love it. It is old school at its best.

This place is amazing. Let’s forget the price, let’s talk about the ambiance. It is a try dinner. There is regulars, plates clanking, food being slung and fresh coffee always. The fact that it is still family owned is amazing. It is either breakfast or lunch NO dinner, cause dinner is suppose to be home with family. I love it. And the prices can’t be beat comparably to the quality of the food. Now if I could wake up earlier and get there more often.

This is always the first place I want to go when I fly to NYC. I live in Portland Oregon but this diner is almost enough to make me want to move to Bay Ridge. Seriously the best little family eatery I’ve ever seen.

Narrows Coffee Shop raises my bar for cheap diner food in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. I got french toast with bacon and two eggs over easy, and a cup of coffee. The food was great and affordable; there aren’t many places in Brooklyn where you can feed a family of four on $ 20, and yet here we are. The thing that stood out the most to me was the friendly service. A waiter ran to the door to hold it open for our stroller, and again when we were on the way out. Our waiter checked in when we were ready, and we got our food fast. My mug was never empty or cold. Couldn’t ask for more from such a great, simple, affordable diner. I’ll definitely be back.

We made a vow — we’d branch out, try new places, etc. Then I do and I wonder why. Cute little coffee shop. My coffee, eggs and toast were standard fare. My bacon was so greasy I felt queasy. The potatoes were so dry and tasteless that piling salt on them did nothing.(I should have added some butter — would have been much better.) The portions and the prices are pretty good. I have no idea how the sandwiches would be but if they’re as greasy as my bacon — blech. It’s cheap. No frills. If that’s what you want, this place is for you. But there are plenty of other diners around that do it better.

A cute little place to have inexpensive breakfast in Bayridge. Their service it’s friendly and very quick. You are in and out, or you can just seat and chat as some people do. The food is not bad.

The food was very cheap, but could not finish my pancakes– the batter inside felt uncooked, and sausage– way too salty. But for $ 5– maybe the price here tells what to expect.

You want«no frills»? This is it. Amazingly cheap breakfast; simple menu. In terms of quality, it’s decent, not amazing(it’s hardly the Waldorf). If you are hung over, come here. Open kitchen, with one cook(I think he might be the owner) and one server. Not open on Sundays, but I wish it was. Old-school all round. If you are hungry, nearby, and it’s morning, check it out.

This morning my husband and children had breakfast at Narrows. Very small but pleasant place. We ordered pancakes for the kids and omelet for ourselves. The kids got their pancakes before we got our omelets, which we thought was great. Usually I have to take time from my plate of food to get theirs ready(cuting everything up). This didn’t happen this morning. I got to eat my breakfast still hot. Services was good as was the food. The elder woman was nice and the kids even went up to her to say good bye. Breakfast for us was only $ 26. I was shocked in a good way by that. It’s not easy taking your family out for a good breakfast and only spending $ 26. My only negative is Narrows not accepting credit cards. We would definetly go back.

Visited Aug 22nd Smells good… hope the service is fast… free parking til the street sweepers come at 8:30 in the morn… cops show up before the machine! Turns out the service wasn’t very fast at all… in fact the Mrs observed more than one customer who came in after us and was waited on before they took our order… not cool. Neither were their pancakes after a while. I was leaning Amey’s way on this one, but after checking out the entire scene.2 stars.

A very old time Brooklyn flavor coffee shop and breakfast joint. I stopped by when I was in the neighborhood and craving some breakfast food. It was crowded(not enough that I had to wait but enough that it had a very lively feel). Mostly seeming to be full of older locals, which was nice. The waitress was an elderly woman who was incredibly sweet. I had a breakfast special which was surprisingly inexpensive. The portion was big and the food very fresh and delicious, home made type breakfast. I finished everything on my plate. The coffee was good and there were free re-fills. My only small complaint is that they don’t accept credit cards, but I was able to run across the street to an ATM. Parking is on the street and there are meters but I had no issues finding a stop right outside.

Food’s decent, and the service is really good. The portions are just the right size. It’s definitely a place with a lot of regulars. If you don’t live in the neighborhood though I’d imagine you might feel out of place. So glad they redid the place. It was old looking and worn down and needed it. Wish they stayed open later though.

I’m truly amazed about the good reviews for this place(and we went there based on the Unilocal reviews)…we had a mid-morning breakfast there today with another couple; they live within walking distance but hadn’t been there before(and they certainly won’t be returning). Firstly, the service was ATROCIOUS! The(sole) server appeared to be in her late 70’s — and I’m not disparaging the elderly when I say she wasn’t very functional in either the mental or physical sense. We first sat there for *fifteen minutes* and she never even gave us a menu, until finally I went to the sideboard and took some. Then it took *another* huge amount of time before she would agree to take our orders(!). Three of us asked for water and she *never* brought it — despite a repeated request quite some time later — until we were *almost ready to leave*, at which point she brought ONE(small) glass of water(?!). Secondly, the food lent new meaning to the word«bland» and the portions were *miniscule*. Really, the food was *tasteless*(my husband & I ordered mushroom omelettes, which came with home fries & toast) — and the coffee was *awful*. The *only* positive aspect was the cheap prices, but it wasn’t cheap enough to compensate for the lousy service and the food.

Finally ate at the Narrows Coffee Shop for the first time yesterday morning after living around the corner for over a year. Never knew what to expect, but I was extremely surprised. They recently renovated the place and it looks really nice inside. It’s a simple place, nothing too fancy. A couple booths, a bunch of tables/chairs, and 5 – 10 seats at the counter. A classic, small diner feel. Now for the food, pretty good. Not drop dead amazing, but it was tasty. French toast and a cup of coffee for like $ 3, can’t go wrong. I got a chocolate milk shake, too, just for the hell of it. My girlfriend got the blueberry pancake special with a cup of coffee, one egg, and grits. Total was about $ 12-$ 13. Great way to start the morning. Definitely coming back

This place is sweet. It has a lot of regulars and it feels as though you’re eating breakfast while staying over at a grandparents or anut/uncle’s place. It’s good old fashioned breakfast.

After working up a hefty appetite during a late morning, early afternoon stroll snapping shots with my camera, I walked into this place not knowing what to expect. For me, there’s always something seemingly nostalgic about a place that has«Coffee Shop» as part of its name. I was craving breakfast food, and the sign in the window indicating the breakfast specials was enticing… and inexpensive. There was no time but the present, and I was totally starving. Definitely a nice surprise. This is a small(and actually quite charming) diner that epitomizes something you’d typically find on some countryside route in the middle of nowhere, with about 10 or so tables and some counter top seating. I definitely didn’t think I was in Brooklyn any longer, which even for a brief time was refreshing. I ended up sitting at the counter, since I was alone, and was served by a friendly lady who was probably old enough to be a great grandma(seriously, she was pretty old, but super-duper nice). I ordered up scrambled eggs with sausage and toast… with coffee. And oh so good and plenty! Now this place would be even better if it was right around the corner from where I lived.

This place is pretty tiny but it has good service and decent food with low prices. It has a very good community feeling to it.
