Under a new owner and management, this place is really better. The owner is so sweet and kind and nice! You just have to try this place out yourself. It is now called Seven Hills Café. For its price you get fresh vegetables for your salad and pretty good sandwiches for your bucks!

This place has undergone a management change and is now called Seven Hills Café. I’ve eaten there before and after the change and the food was much better before. The falafel sandwich was dry(even with hummus) and tasted slightly burnt. I don’t think the pickles made it in there which I was looking forward to. With the addition of some hot sauce on the side, it wasn’t too bad, but I would say below average. The grape leaves were decent. I probably won’t be back for a while since the best falafel ever is near the Bedford Ave stop on the L at Oasis.

I just moved to the nabe last week – and I guess this place is under new management so I don’t know what it was like before, but I’d say it was pretty good and would order from here again. One disappointment(I probably should have realized) was the calamari was the cheap frozen kind – they looked like little onion rings – so I’d advise against that one. Also, the delivery guy got lost and language was a bit of an issue.
True hospitality! The service received at Mediterranean Shawarma is around the best I have received in New York City. The waitstaff was incredibly friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The server recommended we try the appetizer platter and even made sure to double check that we weren’t vegan before putting together our food. The appetizer sampler was very delcious — a definite winner and something I would order again and again. We also had the falafel sandwiches which were yummy and filling. While the interior looks a little cheesy, if you can sit in the back patio area then you will be swept away by the ambiance. Somebody was definitely a landscaper and not an interior designer — the backyard area was lovely and quaint, a step into a relaxing world. The bill was very cheap and my dining partner and I left with full tummies, a little extra to take home, and a smile. For two people our total stayed under 20 dollars and we were stuffed! I will return here again and again. Thoughtful and attentive waitstaff, very low prices, and the food was delicious!

I loved the chicken pita for lunch… good lunch special w/soda. I always have lamb meat but their chicken was so so good! They also have the BEST Baklawa this side of Brooklyn… I’ve had my share and they have it here right by the register and it’s sooooo good. Unlike other places(the grocery stores… c’mon ppl).

It may sound trite, but Mediterranean Shawarma really is a welcome addition to the ‘hood, and it has most of the elements that I need for a local, go-to joint: extremely friendly service; low prices; and cheap, fresh, and tasty food. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I was very satisfied with my flavorful lunchtime chicken gyro(although I’m also puzzled by the restaurant being called«shawarma» while the menu item is called«gyro») and I really enjoyed the cold appetizer platter at dinnertime. I will definitely keep coming back and hopefully future visits will even bump up my rating.

This place is awesome! And the big crystal chandelier in the back cracks me up. I live on this block but had never been until last week. The employees were so friendly– they made me a huge sandwich, and gave me free baklava. Plus they say they deliver. For a bigger-than-life, more meat than you need to meet sandwich, I paid about 4 – 5 bucks. This place is perfect for a quick solo meal, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a date…

i had a chicken shish platter with hummus and the food was delicious and fresh. the table service was good and the employees very polite. i go to oasis at least once a week and i have to tell you i think the food here is more fresh and tastier. my only wish is that the sauces get a little more bold, other than that its great.

As a new food spot in Greenpoint(we’ll welcome ANY new food spots;), I’m sure they’re still working out the kinks. On that note, HOWEVER, c’mon, perhaps all the money or energy spent on new kitchen/counter equipment, large flat screen tv, and bizarre gaudy nouveau chandeliers(yes, chandeliers!) should have been spent on better quality food. At $ 4, the falafel had nothing on Oasis.(I’m now a falafel snob that looks down on the meager addition of just onions, tomatoes, and/or lettuce ugh, thanks Oasis and your fine pickled/cabbage falafel accompaniment). The falafel, although crispy, was a bit mushy inside and not enough white sauce could mask its slightly weak taste. The waitress/cashier girl was very friendly and even offered me complimentary«turkish tea» on a cute turkish(?) glass set. Tasted like.well.hot tea. Appreciated the service and thought. Everyone was very kind and welcoming(on a positive:). Confusing set up of tables w. set utensils(wait, do I go through her now or bus my own plate? i don’t know! I just want to eat it now so it doesn’t freeze on my walk home! just bus your own plates people). I actually will probably come back. I’m sure it’ll be better with age.

A void has been filled in Greenpoint. Delivery/pickup is quick and they so far have listened to things like«sauce on the side» and«no onions». And, a falafel for 6 $.

Well, the arrival of a Mediterranean restaurant in the heart of Greenpoint is certainly a welcome addition to the neighborhood, but alas this joint only adds to the legacy of ever growing mediocrity in the area’s restaurants. The first head-scratching moment came when I looked for Schawarma on the menu. Oddly, it wasn’t there. There is NOSCHAWARMAONTHEMENUOF A RESTAURANTNAMEDSCHAWARMA. I thus ordered the chicken gyro, with the understanding that to some the sandwiches are synonymous but to anyone that understands the subtle but significant differences, they are not the same. Anyway, I was hungry, and ready to enjoy the sandwich, in a pita for I believe $ 6. The chicken was slimy and gross, and the accompaniments of tomato, onion, and lettuce were generic. The white sauce was paltry, and served on the side, as was the hot sauce, which tasted like Tabasco(Tabasco rules, but here I want something a little more exotic.) It was totally mediocre to bad!!! Bummer! My buddy got the red lentil soup, served unceremoniously with a warmed pita bread on the side. It’s flavor was bland and one note. The earthiness of the lentils was appealing, but there was no complexity or wonder in that bowl. I’m an optimist in thinking that when someone wants to open a restaurant, they will do so with some integrity and creativity. Why is that so rarely the case? It often seems as if the quality of the food is the least of the owner’s concerns. Can we abolish mediocrity? Don’t open a restaurant if you’re going to half-azz it, please!!! This place is guilty of that awkward confusion over whether it’s a sit down joint with table service or an order at the counter place. Which is it?! I agree that Oasis is a good spot in northern Brooklyn for this kind of food, and I’m eager to try Doner, by the L on Bedford. But in general, this country has got NOTHING on those middle eastern places all over Europe, with their cheap, hearty, complex, and immensely satisfying Doner Kebab sandwiches. I had one in a little German town near Cologne that changed my life and redefined what it means to eat a sandwich. I’ll spend the rest of my life searching for that sandwich, and would like to know it’s possible in this country!

A bunch of us went in for lunch today. It was fairly quiet and a few people were sitting in the back. We all got our orders to go, so we didn’t have to deal with the delivery issues like everyone else. I did notice that the chicken gyro loaf did look kinda fatty, so I stayed away from it(though my coworkers thought it was fine.) I got the falafel lunch special with rice and a soda. $ 6 for all that? Pretty good deal if you ask me. And the falafel was fine. They gave me three decently sized pieces, a pita, onions and tomato. hot and white sauces on the side. Still not as good as Oasis, but decent for what it was. And for $ 6? Why not.

This place just opened yesterday, September 29, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. That being said: I tried to call for delivery, but was sent to voicemail on one line listed on their menu, with a busy signal on the other. I decided to walk down as it wasn’t all that far. Service here was a mess. Not clear was that if you want to eat to stay, you can just sit down and someone can take your order. You might not realize this because of the mass of people at the counter, of which there’s no indication which way the line goes, who’s waiting on their food, etc. After you order, you might notice the employees trying to figure out who ordered what, people asking for their order, orders getting lost, and eventually, your order being prepared, but no one remembering who it’s for. The food itself was mediocre at best. I had the Gyro lunch special, and the meat was a charred mess of fat and salt, the fries limp, and the salad warm. Trying to pay seemed to throw them for a loop as well, I told them what I had, and the cashier needed 2 other people to verify it. Confusing. This place would be a lot better if they had a number-style ordering system(you get a ticket, they call your number, neither of you have to keep track of more than that), and clearer indications of traffic flow. I’m willing to give them another shot and will gladly change my review as a better experience comes along. I’m excited for them in the area, and want them to improve and stick around!
