I work in the South Street Seaport so I stopped by Smorgasburg for lunch today. I went for Lumpia Shack after seeing its truck in the Seaport last summer. It’s not cheap and the portions aren’t exactly befitting the prices. My coworker and I waited in line for over 5 minutes(which I expected – it was the busiest place there at the time). I placed my order at 1:13PM and watched as not only my coworker(who ordered after me) received their meal, but 5 or 6 other people who had ordered after me were served their food before I was served mine. After asking about the status of my order twice I finally got my food at 1:40PM. The only explanation I got is that the meals are«made to order.» I didn’t make any special requests like«please grill this chicken for at least 15 minutes» yet somehow my coworker’s order of steak took less time to prepare than my chicken. By the time I got the food my lunch break was over and I was hyper-critical of the overly-fatty cuts of chicken I had waited for. I can understand that they were busy at the moment I ordered, but I’ve seen these guys operate out of a food truck and not make anyone wait that long. A warning would have been nice. Had I known I might have gone for the steak.

I didn’t have the same experience others had. My lumpia did NOT look like the pictures. They were overbrowned. My sister-in-law is Fillipino and makes wonderful. Her lumpia looks like the pictures shown on Unilocal — mine, not so much. Disappointed.

Really guys? Come on! Where’s the real home style food? Actually what I’ve meant to say is, «where’s the lumpia in the Lumpia Shack?» Not sure what’s happening over there, but…

I went to Smorgasburg today and was happy to find Lumpia Shack here! The special of the day was«Shrimp Lumpia» so of course I went for that. FOOD = 5⁄5 !!! Super flavorful, nice and hot, and the presentation was lovely Also $ 9 for six filling pieces was a great deal Service 3−4÷5 They could have been a bit friendlier but I guess they were just tired from being there so long

I love spring rolls and all their variations so was happy to have a chance to nibble on this at Smorgasburg. I ordered the $ 9 sampler which comes with 3 each of pork, mushroom and duck. Presentation was superb. Pricing is very reasonable. Taste wise, I thought the pork and mushroom was ok. I really liked the kick from the little red peppers and sauce on the mushroom. The duck seemed kind of dry and maybe fried a little too long. It was the hottest day of the year(so far) so I also got the halo halo. This is basically the Filipino version of shaved ice. It was cool, refreshing, a little sweet and really hit the spot on a steamy day. Props to all the vendors and their employees for trucking along in this extreme heat!

I went to south street seaport today bec of lumpia shack after all the hype I heard about them, I was very excited to finally be able to taste their food. It is overly priced and their lumpia doesn’t taste good at all. We love the fresh coconut water. The staff were unfriendly and unwelcoming.

This is the worst«Filipino» food I have ever had. If you’ve ever had real Filipino food, don’t buy this. My mom would probably kill herself if she ever ate here. But don’t worry, what they lack in flavor they make up for in price.

I got the samplers 2 times on different days. It did not fail my expectation. It was delicious. The sampler is a great way to try a of them before deciding which one you prefer. I honestly like all of them. It was $ 9 for the sampler. Definitely try it when you’re at smorgasburg

One word: Sampler. Trust me and get it! A lot of food for the price, perfect for sharing even though you probably wont want to! The presentation and taste were great, always a must try.

Lumpia is a must try here! I mean c’mon it’s in the name! Can’t decide what to get? Go for the sampler combo! It comes with 3 flavors. Personally I prefer the pork over the chicken and mushroom but the meat ones are generally better than the vegetarian ones.

I was lucky enough to try out the sampler platter and boy was I in heaven. First of all I don’t usually expect great presentation of food at a food festival however the presentation was spot on with an amazing display and variety of sauces and garnishes. The texture was just right with a perfect crisp to each bite. Flavors were perfectly balanced with just the right amount of saltiness, sweetness, and a bit of heat. A true umami bomb for sure. The service was also friendly and orders were prepared fast! I can’t wait to try their snack-bar storefront in the West Village.

I had the lumpia sampler at Smorgasburg. Holy Truffle Mayo!!! It was so good –creamy with just a hint of truffle. The truffle mayo also had a nice delicate flavor and complimented the spring roll well. The texture of the mushrooms inside was also nice, it resembled meat. We thought it was chicken for a while. I usually think anything with truffle oil or truffle-flavored tastes like gasoline. Sometime I even dislike shaved truffle, even though it’s expensive it can have an overpowering flavor. The two items that have made it onto my Truffle Good List are the truffle fries at Cafeteria and these delicious truffle mayo covered scrumptious lumpias. Yes, the lumpias are expensive, but until i figure out how to make that mayo, I’ll be returning for sure.

My favorite stand at Smorgasburg! I grew up in a Filipino neighborhood, so to see«lumpia shack» as I was making my way through Smorg, I was through the moon excited. They have 3 main stays on their menu(pork, duck, or mushroom). They always have a specialty item — my favorite has been the pork belly lumpia. They are so crispy, not greasy, savory… just perfect little bites. And the price is right, about 6 lumpias for $ 8. They also have halo halo and a refreshing strawberry lemonade with basil seeds.

I was craving lumpia about a week before I decided to make a Smorgasburg trip, so of course I was totally excited when I came across this stand! I got the original pork and they were good — not the best lumpia I’ve ever had, but it’s hard to find lumpia in the city, so I’ll give it points just for existing.(I also tried their mushroom one, because they accidentally gave me that first, and I’m not a fan of mushrooms, but it was decently tasty, so I’ll vouch for the veggie option too. They were really nice when I pointed out their mistake also, so props to them!). Like a lot of places at Smorgasburg, it’s a little pricey — six pieces for $ 8, or a sampler of nine pieces for $ 10. Not what you’re going to fill up with at Smorgasburg, but a decent taster if you’re in the mood. I don’t know if I’ll go back to Lumpia Shack next time I’m down at Smorgasburg, but it’s worth a try if you’re around.

I love seeing Filipino food making it’s way into the spotlight. These guys make really great lumpia in so many different varieties and so beautifully presented.

Simply put, this place is my favorite Smorg stand and serves the best lumpia i’ve ever had. Lumpia Shack serves the perfect market food. Delicious, savory, and clean. You can’t go wrong with any of the 3 mainstays on their menu(pork, duck, mushroom). Since I tend to be indecisive and love all three, I get the sampler. They also roll out specialty items that vary week to week. Such as; garlic fried rice lumpia with pork belly, sisig lumpia, brisket lumpia, halo-halo dessert(perfect for those hot days!), and their seasonal melon beverage. All the perfectly fried lumpia are crisp with little to no grease. The sauces and accompaniments only add to the lumpia. Either delivering sweet, tangy, spicy, textural differences to contrast or enhance flavors. My personal favorites are the sisig pork and duck lumpia. Just writing this review makes me want to go to Smorg ASAP.

Amazing little spring rolls at Smorgasburg. Not your average greasy bulky ones from your favorite chinese take out. They just opened store on Greenwich ave with bowls. Def recommend getting the combo platter, where you can try duck, pork and a different special to taste variety of spring rolls. They also come garnished with amazing sauces. All ingredients are fresh and are made to order. Def try the spring roll with ginger scallion sauce. Staff is nice and friendly, they also make a nice refreshing melon juice. Def worth a try, if your at Smorgasburg.

Best lumpia ever Recommend the conbo because just the hearty duck or the tasty pork or the fragrant truffle mushroom will not be enough

Delicious little spring rolls that I will definitely have again! Unlike the super fried, greasy messy ones you have at the Viet restaurants, these are super cute, fried to perfection and displayed nicely. I had the sampler that had the duck, pork and mushroom, all for $ 9. A little pricey for the size of the dish, but definitely worth trying and was the best option for trying all of them. The pork was my favorite and the mushroom the least favorite. The duck seemed to be chopped/ground really fine, so it tasted a little weird. I’ll definitely get this again should I stumble upon their stand, but I would only get the pork.

At Smorgasburg we discovery the Lumpia Shack too! We tried their sampler– pork, mushroom and duck. Lumpia Sampler– Yes they were definitely delicious! rated. 5⁄5. Our favorite was the pork. We also tried their melon drink– refreshing, the flavor of the melon is weak; rated 3⁄5. It is not easy making delicious lumpia in a tent & hot!
