Alright — I dread reviewing places like this, since they are at heart community service joints… places that are not great or spectacular, but convenient and faithfully sticking around for years, with long opening hours edible wares. Ines is at heart a bakery. Not a great bakery, but a decent panderia/pasteleria. Come in, order a coffee, get one of those Mexican breads or maybe the pastilles tres leches(which is actually quite good), or down the aquas frescas(Horchata is available, Tamarindo usually, anything else will be up to whomever is doing the cooking). Nothing bad here. Regarding the Tortas, I would say that the Milensias de Pollo is a good one — decent quality bread, freshly fried cutlets, avocado, oaxaca cheese, tomatoes and chiles — good choice for a grab-n-go. As for the tacos and burritos, its chileques or Enchiladas, they are merely so-so. Not much flavor, and I don’t think they did anything special here to distinguish itself from a low grade yanqui taqueria… of course, if you are eating it here you are passing up the decent and better places up on the 40 and 50s in Sunset Park by being lazy here, so you have only yourself to blame. So yeah, stick to the basics — get some Horchatas, get a torta sandwich, and maybe a slice of their tres leches, and you’ll be fine. Just don’t ask a bakery to make you tacos… they don’t have a comal and honestly couldn’t care less about the quality, so shut your bloodclot crying.

The only convince about this place is that it is nearby where I live, other than that, not much, the few times I been, twice the woman in the counter was rude to me, and the bread was over priced, only because I was lazy to walk somewhere else, I would have gone.

I, too, used to live in the neighborhood and LOVED this place. Miss Ines! Excellent café con leche, guava con queso pastries, doughnuts, and chocolate cake. This place does it all. Homemade, not overly sweet in that fake, granulated way like some other bakeries, and really fast and friendly service. I love that they are still in business and going strong, and I always make a point to stop by when I return to my old digs.

We happened to be standing right out front of this bakery near the subway during the marathon(unless they just opened for the event, they’re not open weekdays only, contrary to hours here). Coconut cocoadas were pretty good; pretty large selection, too.

Looks like a bakery, but they do superb tacos and other savory food too. I had the Tacos de Tinga, shredded chicken in a yummy chipotle sauce. At $ 6 for 3 of the best tacos, it’s a steal.

Yummy coffee at all hours of the day. I have not tried the food(allergies) but it all looks amazing. The staff was nice and made sure my non-New Yorker husband didn’t get skipped as customers just moved ahead of him in line. Only thing is that it is cash only something us out of towners are not used to.

Definitely a hole in the wall place, I used to live a block away. And always went for their sopes, and popusas. Now I moved to Queens, and still find myself driving there for their popusas! Prices are great too!

Morning stop before heading down to the subway. Usually busy, but good pastries(which I don’t know about everyone else, but when I go to a bakery I’m there for pastries and baked goods) and my standby combo of 2 sugar doughnuts and a 20oz bottle of coke for $ 2.50(tax included) can’t be beat. I will agree with a previous reviewer about their chocolate doughnuts– after reading said review I got one just to try. Not bad, but if you’re looking for DD style, not for you. But I’m a fan of the sugared doughnuts. One day I will stop in here for an actual meal and try their food– it looks good. But their pastries are good enough to keep me coming back for now.

I’ve been coming here for years. This is my favorite place to get tortas, nachos and other good Mexican food. Their food is amazing!!! It’s very inexpensive. Although their prices have changed it is still very inexpensive. They have a variety of desserts. The food is so delicious that every time I come it is always crowded. I probably go there every other day because I love the authentic Mexican taste of their food. I really recommend this place! I just wish they made the bakery bigger because their seating space is very limited.

Don’t have one bad thing to say about this place. From the enchiladas to the cemitas, it’s all super delicious and well priced while also very authentic. I wish they had more seating but other than that, fantastic!

Right next to 36 street subway station, very convenient. Hole-in-the-wall, and an excellent one at that. I and a group of friends stumbled over this spot, and it fit the bill very nicely. We all ordered food, and it was quite good, very reasonably priced, and filling.

gosh darn this place is good. Ive never actually come across a Mexican bakery before till not too long ago, this being it. I go in and stare at all the amusing baked goods, then I saw the free leches, oozing off the plate I had to get a slice. fuck my diet, and man did I not regret it. I came back soon after for some crème filled pastry thing which is also very good and Twp slices of random chocolate cake which were very moist(that’s a good thing) I’ll make sure to make a stop by here again when I feel like cheating on my diet.

Cemita, fries and beverage are a mere $ 6. And it’s 24⁄7. I got the roast pork version — the meat was pretty good(the flat Cuban sandwich-type roast pork) and the hot sauce was excellent for a sandwich that was greater than the sum of its parts. The display is crammed with baked goods, many in the $ 1 to $ 1.50 range, but the«regular food» also looked appealing, based on visual inspection of what other people ordered.

The donuts are a little on the greasy side, but that’s just fine with me. For a Mexican/Latin American donut, they ain’t bad. Mexican donuts exist in a parallel pastry universe. They’ve divergently evolved to the point that I feel dumb judging them by my pasty yuppie standards — it’s like saying a particular taco sucks because it’s not a hamburger. That said, Latin Americans like them some wacky-ass donuts. I’ve lived in Mexico, speak enough Spanish, and still have never quite developed the taste. The key differences between a donut at a Mexican/Salvadoran/Other Latino bakery and something you’d find at Donut Pub? 1) Their chocolate doesn’t monkey around. It’s a stronger, deeper cocoa than you’ll find in almost any Gringo pastry, and it’s not particularly sweet or rich. 2) The frosting is hella waxy. The flip side of all that pure chocolate is that, if you’re not binding it with fat and sugar, you’ve got to find some alternative, and I’m slowly becoming convinced that all these bakeries have simply resorted to 100% pure beeswax. There’s enough wax and grease on an average donut that, if you were so inclined, you could probably set a match to a chocolate frosted and illuminate a New York-size apartment for upwards of a fortnight. 3) The fry is suspiciously savory. One of my favorite things about Mexican-style donuts in Brooklyn is that you can be absolutely certain they were fried on the premises, mainly because the oil tastes suspiciously like whatever else they happen to be serving that day. Up to and including chicken tenders. 4) The price. You never pay more than $ 0.75 for a Mexican chocolate frosted(which is, coincidentally, a sentence you’ll also see in reviews of about a billion sketchy establishments in Tiajuana), and non-frosted options are often just $ 0.50. 5) The selection. In Williamsburg, Princesa has a vanilla frosted, and Grand has branched out into the brave world of the Boston Cream, but for the most part you’re never going to get anything more than plain, sugar-dipped, and chocolate frosted. Zero variation. Or, to summarize those five points in a way less insane way, I don’t particularly like Latin American donuts because they’re not sweet enough and they taste like chicken. But it’s nice that they’re so cheap.

Ines is a Mexican bakery by name, but it’s also a busy lunch counter, specializing in tortas, cemitas, tacos and diner food(burgers, etc.) The tacos are nothing to make plans around, but the tortas are excellent and come with a free can of soda. It’s also the only true round-the-clock operation in the immediate neighborhood so keep that in mind as you stumble to or from the subway at 3 in the morning. The pastries and desserts are cheap as dirt and every one I’ve had has been very good. PROTIP: Order ahead if you’re getting something from the grill.

One phrase here– Tres Leches!!! There are other things that are good but none compare to their classic pastel de tres leches. I have had very little of the food, I stick to the sweets at this joint. It’s no frills so don’t go here expecting a nice dining area or table service. I suggest you grab a Tres Leches piece and then chill out in Greenwood cemetery. Yeah, I know that sounds weird but it’s a nice place to relax.

Make no mistake, Ines thrives on its location and accessibility. Being right near the express stop is great. Being open at 3AM for a taco when the stupid R train is going straight to 36th St. is great. The fact that it’s an actual bakery that smell deliciously on the inside is a bonus. But the food? Not so much. It’s not offensive or anything, but if I lived around there, I wouldn’t go unless it was the only thing that was open.
