This review is not for Greenpoint Coffee House but for whatever twisted idiot decided to put a different business in there. As I understand it, the landlord gave GCH the boot and will attempt to open some other kind of restaurant there. What a complete and utter disgrace! This was one of the best little restaurants in Greenpoint. It had great food at fair prices and excellent coffee. The staff was nice and always went that extra mile for us when we used to bring our dog and sit outside. It was a perfect fixture of Franklin Street and to see it go is really a shame. I hope whatever replaces GCH fails miserably. I also hope that the people(waitstaff and cooks) from Greenpoint Coffee House are able to find work in the neighborhood. You will be missed.

This place may be responsible for stimulating the Franklin St. hippie influx… but according to the sign outside… It will fall victim to that same growth that it brought upon and thrived on for so long. Went there today as I usually do on Mondays to do some remote work with my laptop. The music and coffee– exemplary as usual– but the somberness of the workers cold be felt as they finished the brunch rush for the last time.

Jesus Christ! Just get the pumpernickel everything bagel with smoked salmon, herbed cream cheese, capers, and pickled onion. The granola is fantastic too. The food was so good that I want to break something. Minus one star for the disaffected waitstaff that were once so prevalent in Williamsburg and are now drifting north. My waitress looked like an american apparel ad.

I’ve only been once and it wasn’t very busy, so i can’t account for people’s objections about service or whatever. But after a long night(that followed a long and tiresome day) and a decent little walk, this place was heaven for a hungry and tired Me. The tea was pretty killer, and the staff was friendly, and then of course there was the food. I had eggs and homefries with toast. Such a Diner-food meal but i get it just about anywhere i go. Their homefries are untouchable. They reminded me of those Cape Cod dark russet potato chips? — darker in color, very flavorful potatoes seasoned very nicely. Usually i pick up the salt the very first thing when i get my meal at breakfast. It never even occurred to me. The eggs were simple, but done as i asked and not greasy. I’d come here often if i lived in the area.

I’ve tried going there several times and the service was always very lacking. The last time hubbie and I tried to go there was for dinner on a Monday night. There were empty tables and it looked like most of the occupied tables had been served and it still took them a good 5 minutes to even acknowledge that we were even in the restaurant. Once someone actually said hello, at least I think that’s what she said, we were sat and the lack of service continued. It took forever to get water and to order a beverage, about the same amount of time for the server to take our food order and even longer for the food to arrive. I felt that the worst part of the hipster vibe permeated the place and even though the hubbie and I lived in the neighborhood long before this place even opened up we were treated as outsiders and felt unwelcome. The food for the most part was good and tasty, if a little long in getting to the table. Still the food wasn’t enough to get me to go back.

I love this place. It’s the kind of cozy, comfortable establishment with amazing coffee that makes you glad you live in Greenpoint, the best neighborhood in the whole city. The people who work here are friendly, and you can sit for as long as you’d like over coffee without being pushed to order food. They also play great music.

I love the décor here — I could see spending hours and hours sitting with my laptop drinking pots of chocolate mint rooibos tea if and when I move to Greenpoint. But I agree with other Unilocalers — the food here is just ok. I see now I probably should have ordered pancakes but I had the veggie burger. It was fine but I could have heated up something frozen and had it be just as good. The menu is very limited but people around us kept eating things that looked good that we didn’t see in print. The gentlemen to our left consumed a meyer lemon panacotta dessert and someone behind us had a meatball hero– YUM. Plus I love my condiments and they didn’t even have honey mustard. I got regular mustard but such a small portion it was like they had an ordinance to ration the yellow stuff in case of a disaster. My bloody mary was delicious and spicy! I’d recommend this spot to meet for coffee and pastries but go elsewhere if you want a yummy meal. Oh and they won’t let you sit in a booth if you’re only 2 people. That’s understandable at brunch time but we got here at 4:30pm. Tip: They serve brunch till 5p and then close the kitchen for an hour and reopen at 6pm.

after a few stops into the greenpoint coffee house, i can definitely give it a ‘yay! i’m a fan’ four star rating. the coffee drinks have been good and the service ok. granted, i’ve only had orders-to-go, so i can’t attest to wait service, but the staff have been friendly to me more or less. the décor inside is quite charming and makes me want to grab a seat and check it out. plus, there’s free wi-fi(this is always a plus). and they have these nea ‘buy 9 drinks, get one free…’ cards. overall, it’s a nice little neighborhood spot.

MEH. The service was awful from the minute we walked in. Though there were numerous empty tables it took atleast 5 minutes for us to be seated. Worse thing happened to 3 men the same night. They stood by the«wait to be seated» sign longer than us unacknowledged, ended up waiting at the bar then later on grabbed their own menus and walked themselves to a table. wth?! I thought the food will be their saving grace but my frisee salad drowned in vinaigrette dressing which made it hard to eat. There won’t be a next time for sure. Pros: ambiance, price

This is the only restaurant I have ever walked out of due to the complete and utter rudeness of the staff. I am not a sensitive person. I have worked in diners for years, and I know when the staff is just tired or having a bad day. That is not the case here. At Greenpoint Coffee House, during brunch, the staff go out of their way to be as rude as humanly possible. Thank god, I guess, because judging by some of the other reviews, it spared me and my friends the irritation of having to suffer through that just to have some mediocre brunch. I should add that when I have gone in there weekdays just for coffee, it has been much more pleasant, which is the only reason I didn’t rate it 1 star. Go to Brooklyn Label instead!

I live right next to the greenpoint coffee house, and I absolutely loved that it was there when I first moved in and I had no internet in my apartment. My boyfriend and I would go there and sit for hours with our laptops and they wouldn’t say a word to us. They make a mean cappuccino, and their brunch looks fantastic. We ended up going for dinner the other night though, and the food was mediocre at best. My sister’s veggie burger had so much smoke flavor in it she could barely eat it, and my fish and chips were just so so. The burger was the best thing on the table. So, go to greenpoint coffee house for coffee or brunch, and if you are in desperate need of a super cheap dinner date stick to the burger and a beer.

You know that awkward feeling when you’re at brunch with a male friend, and people are looking at you guys as if you did the deed the night before? Well, it was completely destroyed by how AMAZING the lox-scallion cream cheese is. Nobody’s saucy smile at the two of us could bother me! It was the perfect ratio of chunks of lox, mixed with fattening and oh so delicious cream cheese, flecked with flavorful scallions. They were out of bagels, so I had it on an english muffin with tomato. It didn’t matter that I had been craving an Everything. So. Damn. Good.

Love almost everything about this place. The décor has that old-time, semi-steampunk feel that seems to be everywhere in Brooklyn now, but here it feels cozy instead of contrived. I’ve gone here for breakfast/brunch four or five times. Great: the omelettes(which are fluffy yet substantial) and the pancakes, which are ever-so-slightly crispy on the outside, chewy and soft on the inside. Oh, and the coffee is rich and strong. Good: the regular two-eggs, bacon and potatoes meal. Solid. Meh: the waffles, which were sort of bland. Those were the only«meh» things I’ve had here. I actually like the service here a lot. The waiters tend to be friendly but not in-your-face. I don’t feel bad about taking my time over breakfast.

I have been to many a better coffee shop and I’m sad I wasted my time and money going to this place for breakfast today. I’m new into the neighborhood and the Greenpoint Coffee House is a block behind my apartment. When I went in, clearly this is a place only aimed for an beloved by its very particular clientele: this is place is crawling with hipsters! Two $ 10 breakfasts, lukewarm with overcooked eggs — overpriced and not that tasty. While the wait to sit for a Saturday morning brunch wasn’t bad(15 minutes for a 2person table) the wait to get our food took a sickeningly long time, about 45 minutes. Perhaps this place would be good for an afternoon tea or coffee, but anything more is just ridiculous. It seems that the only people who would frequent this place are the hipsters who are self-assured at the trendiness of this café, and who see no problem in paying too much for a too long wait at a restaurant where the food’s not worth it.

I really love this place. I wish I had something negative to say, since this is going to end up sounding like a cheesy love letter, but I can do nothing but sing Greenpoint Coffee House’s praises. The overall vibe of the space is wonderful. The décor is warm and inviting and no matter what time of day you visit, they have the right music playing at the right volume — you can hear what’s playing but you can still have a conversation. I love going here with friends or alone to write. The service is spot on, especially for a place that can get busy during brunch on weekends. Despite the volume, the staff manages to be friendly and attentive but not overbearing. The food is satisfying and delicious and the portions are generous. The vegetarian meatloaf is deeeeelish, the pancakes are fluffy and melt in your mouth, and the home fries are spiced just right. The food is not fancy, but they manage to add a little twist to each dish that makes it uniquely theirs. The coffee is strong and that’s just how I like it. It kicks me in the a** on a Saturday morning and gets my day started. The woman that works there early Saturday morning makes me my favorite macchiato in the neighborhood. Before my boyfriend and i moved to the neighborhood, we’d ride our bikes here for brunch from Harlem — mostly for the bike ride, but we ended up making it a frequent destination because we enjoyed it so much.

I grew to like the Coffeehouse less and less the longer I lived in Greenpoint, yet it seemed like I went there more and more. The service is often rude and inconsistent; the coffee refills aren’t free; most of the lunch menu items are unecessarily greasy; orders during the weekend brunch rush are often wrong. Yet for all its flaws, I never stopped going: whether it was the free wifi, charming dark panelled walls and kitschy lampshades, spacious booths, totally addicting pancakes, or just its convenient location, I brunched(and lunched, and dinnered) here at least once a week. In late afternoons if you need to do work, the inevitably crappy service is a boon, as you’ll be left in peace with your laptop and never feel guilty about taking up a table. And those heavy poached eggs with avocado and oily home fries turn out to be the best hangover cure in the neighborhood… and the mugs of strong coffee are so big that you won’t need that many refills anyway.

Maybe I’m a deprived DC-ite with low expectations, but I loved this place! I stayed in Greepoint over labor day weekend and discovered it almost by accident. I came here 3 times and it just got better and better. I’ve had late lunch, brunch, as well as dinner(and lots of coffee) here so I think I got a good view of their offerings. Like others have said, it’s a nice atmosphere, well worn and laid back. The vinyl in the booths is way past crackling and the customers seem very comfortable. The food is surprisingly good and the coffee is nice and strong. The service on each visit was fine and on the friendlier side. Overall, a great neighborhood spot. On food: I convinced my friend to have brunch here and we had the french toast and corned beef hash. *So good*. The best french toast and definitely the best corned beef hash(more meat, less potato, served in a bowl swimming in its own delicious non-vegetarian friendly juices) I’ve had in years. I tried them one more time for dinner and took a gamble on their special which was shark. They initially forgot the sauce for it, so it was bland though moist, and the server came out with it later. A tangy tomato based sauce that was a good contrast. I’m now a fan of this place! Wish there were [more] places like this in DC.

Yikes! Unilocal!I’d better write a review & in a HURRY! who ARE these people who dont like Greenpoint Coffee House?! the coffee is REALLY quite amazing, since it is one of the only superb ‘regular drip’ coffees around. Most places I order an americano, but here there is no need to. That means VERY good coffee. The french toast is almost unmatchable. Whoever said it was like ‘french fried toast’ doesnt LIKE french toast and would be best to stick to items on the menu to their liking, like cold soup or something. It is DELICIOUS, melt-in-your-mouth YET crisp, buttery french toast that has all the characteristics REAL french toast lovers love, including vanilla extract and yummy berries & compote! YUUUUMMM!!! i was so hooked on it that it took me a while to stroll over to the pancakes, which were also extraordinary… especially considering iHop would kill 99% of the pancake offering establishments in greenpoint & williamsburg put together, which is indeed shameful. Though mainly for me a breakfast place, I’ve gone for dinner & thats pretty good too. Otherwise great place to hang for environment, excellent music crankin’ and really friendly staff who ARE totally attentive. For those finding it not so, maybe you should be a little friendly & inviting yourself … there are a lot of people in there who need tending to because its a popular joint, Make a little effort: you will be responded to & have a great time and a great meal. Oh and yeah… so its slow. Thats our vibe over here in Greenpoint/Williamsburg and has been since 1995. If that’s not your speed, Manhattan is right over there: no one asked you to crash our party.

All day breakfast is a plus. The coffee is good. If you have«coffee house» in the name of your place it better be freakin great. Boy had the veg ‘meat’loaf and said it was good. Atmosphere is nice. I liked the décor. They have red velvet cake but i didnt have it because he gave us the check before i could even ask for it and that turned me off. If youre in any kind of rush dont sit to eat or tell the waiter to get a move on. There’s vegan options. A few of em. Good times.

I have to admit, I’m a Manhattan snob. Going to Brooklyn is an adventure for me. But my best friend Amy lives in Greenpoint, and this is one of the only ways she gets me to go to Brooklyn. The trip can be lengthy on a Sunday — hop on the L(with the likely delay of trackwork), transfer at Lorimer to the G, wait forever, and then take the G two stops to Greenpoint Avenue. From the station, it’s about a 10 minute walk. BUT… it’s worth it. Yes, the service can suck(mainly just waiting for a table to clear up — this place gets busy on weekend brunch service), but the food is amaz. If you crave pancakes, this is the place to go — the pancakes are FABULOUS($ 7). They have a great tea selection as well — many to choose from. And you must get a side of their home fries($ 3), which are to die for. So yes, I’ll take the upwards of 45 – 60 minute trip just to trek out to the Brooklyn boonies(ok, ok, they’re not really boonies, but the G… you gotta understand) but because the food here makes me happy for the rest of the day. And the week for that matter. I would give it 5 stars, if only it delivered to the East Village(hah… to dream) PS. my friend says they have dinner. Perhaps next time, yes?
