Some of the worlds best Caribbean comfort food. As one the late founders first customers many years ago, I watched it come to dominate Nostrand Avenue area market as a place to go for West Indian dinner platters, roti, etc. By the way if you want something wonderful try either the Conch or Goat roti or both! Once sited by the New York Times as one of the best places in New York for fast/comfort food it still is. When I moved to Queens 24 years ago I continued to make it a required stop when I stopped by the old neighborhood to visit the family. Now that I’ve moved back I’m glad some things haven’t changed.

Good food, except for the delivery guy coming an hour late and my boyfriend finding a Brillo pad piece in his oxtail peas, and rice which turned him off and he decided to stop eating it. I don’t know if we will be ordering from this place again.

I ordered oxtail from here last night and was pleasantly surprised. I’ve been eating oxtail since I was a kid straight out of Jamaica, Queens. As the only white female who frequented those restaurants, I’m confident in saying that I have no idea what authentic oxtail is or should taste like. But I do know what I like, and I know I love oxtail. For me, it’s all about the combination of tender meat, thick sauce, lightly fried plantains and slightly crispy cabbage all on a bed of rice and beans. So how did Gloria do? Pretty damn well if you ask me. Not only was delivery time shorter than Seamless estimated, but Gloria herself(or someone else– I don’t remember her name) actually called me up about 3 hours after I ordered and asked me how everything was. Never have I ever! I will definitely be eating here again. I should also probably admit that about halfway through my meal I was completely full. I sat there, in my bed, pants undone, thinking about what my options were. Usually I’ll eat ¾ of a meal and finish it because who eats ¼ of a meal at a later time? This was the first time I had eaten half(maybe even less than half) before contemplating my fate. Should I finally go to my first overdue meeting of Overeaters Anonymous or should I sit here and eat the rest of this delicious meal. You know what I did. I’m not proud. The only strange thing is the name/location of this place. I ordered from Gloria’s In & Out #1, but the address from Seamless sends me to Gloria’s West Indian Food. I’m pretty sure there are 1 or 2 more names for the same restaurant on Nostrand Ave. Are there 4 Gloria’s? Are they all the same person? Are unicorns real? The questions may never stop.

Food is amazing, service is friendly. If you order delivery you are doing it wrong, they should not even offer delivery because it is slow and unreliable. Curry Goat Bussup and Pumpkin go to.

Delicious food but you can’t call to make a delivery you have to do it through Seamless. ALSO and a huge problem with this restaurant is that their delivery takes FOREVER! Ordered online at 3:06pm and didn’t receive my food until 5:10pm. Do not order delivery if you’re starving. Also they charge a $ 6 delivery fee.

I have Literally been dying for some good roti. I’ve been hearing about Gloria’s for a while and it’s right up the block from my house so I figured why not try it. Tonight 09÷30÷15, I had my husband order me a chicken roti and bring it home for me. Once he got it home my son and I dug in(literally) because the chicken had bones I had to open it and give it to him carefully. Good thing that we did because After a few bites and in motion to taking another bite I found a ROACH wrapped in my roti shell. A ROACH!!! I couldn’t believe it! SMH. THEROACHWASCLEARLYCOOKEDINTHECURRYSTEW!!! MYSONCOULDHAVEEATENTHAT!!! DISGUSTISANUNDERSTATEMENT. I will NEVER be going here AGAIN. AND I WILLBE100% SURETOTELLEVERYONE I KNOWTONEVERGOHEREAGAIN. This restaurant is absolutely the worst. Do not go here. The service is terrible. I stood there waiting close to 10 minutes for them to take my order when I was 1 out of 2 people waiting to order. The silly girl just stood there talking to the million people behind the counter the whole time. THEN after telling them i wanted curry chicken 2 times, i get home and they have packed me stew chicken. It doesn’t even look the same how did you mix this up. To top it off the food is cold and subpar at best. Do not eat here. Do not even stop, just head down the block to Vee’s. Faster service and better food.

Gloria’s food is good, i wouldn’t say she puts her foot in it. But its good Trini food. I kind of want to feel like my Aunty or Granny made it when i close my eyes and take my first bite. The Chicken is cooked very well and the Goat is tender. The spinach and pumpkin are fresh and they have just enough salt. The roti skin taste great and its always warm and ready… The Pholourie is amazing, when you bite into it, its soft and not rubbery. Those of you that eat this will know when you have had bad Pholourie. The tamarind sauce to go with it is on point. The sorrel taste just like it would at home. They do not put ginger in it, i prefer it that way. Its very sweet so you do need lots of ice. If you want the genuine Trini feel without having to board a plane this is as close as it gets. The space isn’t too big so don’t roll up with a entourage of friends. they don’t have enough seats to accommodate that many people. Head over to Ali’s on Utica he upgraded his space and theres lots of seating.

The roti here is damn near perfect. I normally order the chicken curry roti but I’ve also had the beet, goat and channa rotis too. This food is comfort food at its finest. It will stuff a normal belly or comfortably feed 2 folks(goes nice with a salad). Gloria’s staff are usually pretty quick and get your food done in about 10 minutes. The staff is not all that charming but they are efficient.

I have been going to Gloria’s for 20 years now. The food is on and off, most of the time it is pretty good, there have been a couple of occasions where they used too much salt. My main gripe with them is the fact that their rotis keep getting smaller while the prices keep increasing, A shrimp roti is now nearly $ 12, when I first started going there is was $ 6, I ordered one recently and was surprised at the size of it. I only come here occasionally and I think I will have to look elsewhere from now on.

I visited location today at 5:30 pm a curry goat dinner and she took the order. Later she told me that the curry goat is not available for dinner only for when you order a roti. There is no sign to inform the customer. In addition, there is only one hand written menu poster at the counter where you order there is no menu posted in any other place in the store. The lady who touched the field had i hand which was gloved and the other hand ungloved. She later touch the food with both the gloved and und gloved hand. She also handled the cash register as well. This was the same lady, a few year ago, took my $ 20.00, and told me it was $ 5.00. I wrote in the restaurant and told them about. I stopped going there until my elderly aunt wanted something from there, My assessment this lady is dishonest, she4 cheats the customer in the past, now a receipt is given but you have to be aware what money you tender, the service is horrible, and takes your order, accepts the order and later tells you that she does not have what you order and tells you have to choice something different The location athat i visted was on nostrand and empire blvd

They’re my neighborhood go-to for hot, heavy, hearty rotis. They’re perfect for a cold winter’s night. They’re one of the fewer places that offer boneless chicken rotis as well. **Update* Doubles are a common Trinidadian street food that I was unfamiliar with until I heard somebody else order it and I said let me try one too. Best decision of my life. For $ 2 you get this perfect hearty snack of a sandwich made from 2 bara filled with channa. I add mango tamarind and pepper and they are Amazing! On days when you don’t want to eat too heavy but still be filled, pick up a couple of these. ** The wait time is usually not too long. Sometimes it’s ridiculously quick. The lady(ies) behind the counter are usually pretty friendly. There’s comfortable dining area that’s never crowded to stay and enjoy your food.

Decided to try this place since reviews on Unilocal were overall pretty good. It was possibly a bad day for them, because the stew chicken was off– cant really pinpoint the taste, but that is definitely not how stew chicken is supposed to taste. Food is ok, definitely have had better from other Carribean spots nearby. Doubt I will be returning.

I like the ambience they had some cool Reggae music playing. Very unfortunate as I went off Unilocal ratings and was excited to believe that the if would be very happy with my food… Quite the contrary… I had Curry chicken Roti. OMGSALTY!!! i could barley taste anything through the salt and I actually Love salt but this was beyond Salty!!! Then found a long hair in my dish and well say no more! My friend ordered the curry goat Roti and sad to say same thing FARTOMUCHSALT Mayb it was just today’s chef? because there are a lot of great reviews for this place.

Been eating here since i was a kid. never got food poisoning or indigestion. Nuff said But since Unilocal requires more, Food from all three locations is as close as you’ll get to perfection(I use this term loosely) They make great West Indian food. I can see how one would give low stars for customer service if anything and if they run out of your favorite item. Other than that, don’t come here looking for Disney World smiles. Just come order what you want and go eat it sitting in your house while watching a movie or something. It’s a takeout franchise… PS if you ever want to try callaloo for the first time, I highly recommend them. Don’t eat it from any over place than family or Glorias.

This place is almost as good as Culpepper’s. They don’t usually run out of Jerk Chicken, which is a huge plus. Great doubles.

A restaurant with no posted menu? hmm. I guess you’re supposed to be psychic to the offerings here. The lack of a menu requires you to speak to the workers in a much more complex conversation than they are capable of having without an attitude. I only go here when I’m actually serious about getting some quick WI food(out of convenience mostly because it’s so close to home)… otherwise I have no patience for this place. In the past, I have only ordered Roti, because… who knows what else they have with no menu… But after seeing a menu on Unilocal,I decided to try some curry beef with rice & peas. The curry beef was wayy too salty. So much so that it drowned out the taste of the curry and the beef and had me thinking real hard mid-meal about my health. Just, no. The beef roti is always good though. Like many other reviews here, I’ll just stick to the roti from now on. Guess I don’t need that menu after all…

So you figure you want oxtails and they will taste exactly how they should, you will get an adequate amount, and you will not be disappointed. However, that’s not exactly true. I’ve had many friends who’ve tried the food here and rave that it’s great. I didn’t take into consideration that they usually get rotis and that’s it… so not that the oxtails were bad … they were ok… and I got like 4 pieces which for the price isn’t enough to me. The rice and peas were also ok. I think I’ll try the rotis here before I say never again.
