This is a real shame and an absolute disappointment. I just found out that they closed and it completely broke my heart. This place has been around for decades and they always had the best quality Italian goods available. They’ve been around since my mom was a teenager and she grew up in Gravesend. Everything they made and sold was incredible and seemed to be of an era where excellent quality was actually important Being there always felt like a throwback and brought back memories of the old country. All their cheeses were amazing, they made superb dried sausage, pepperoni and sopressata, and they had great Italian imported goods. It was always a pleasure to go there and everyone was always so friendly, they made you feel right at home. I MISSYOUEAGLECHEESE!!! I WISHYOUGUYSALLTHEBEST!!!

I am sick. We all are. I can’t believe they closed. Where to go now??? They had the freshest ravioli, hands down, in Brooklyn. And don’t tell me Pastosa, cause they don’t come close.

I’m sad, they are in fact closing in a few weeks. I’m currently eating a Stromboli the size of my head. I think the proprietor decided to unload the rest of the salumeria into this Stromboli. Also picked up mozzarella, ricotta, and olives. Get it while you can.

This place is GREAT! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a shop which was so meticulously clean. At least not unless it was a grand opening. These guys have been in this location for over 20 years! The cold cuts are top quality at very reasonable prices. They clearly take pride in their shop and do a great job with it. Edit: Over a year later, I wish I could leave a second 5 star review! I’m just shocked at their commitment and consistency.

You can go home again. While shopping at Eagle Cheese. That’s how my Italian American, Brooklyn born husband always feels having grown up in the Gravesend neighborhood where Eagle Cheese is located and having shopped there for many years all those years ago. Every time we’re back in Brooklyn this is a requisite stop. Sadly our trips back to Brooklyn are too few anymore so our visits to the truly family run«old neighborhood» enterprise of Eagle Cheese for their great goods are too few. But here’s what we love about the place that keeps us going back«home»… …it smells wonderful from the minute you walk in the door. …pride of ownership shows from the sparkling clean counters and cases to the well stocked shelves and specialty deli items. …an array of cheeses from mild to pungent, fresh, cured and dried deli meats, roasted peppers, olives, artichoke hearts, caponata(homemade), the list goes on. …the best homemade ricotta and mozzarella. …delicious homemade filled pastas from remarkably good, large round raviolis filled with everything from cheese to broccoli rabe to pumpkin to roasted red peppers and artichokes, filled homemade rigatoni(no kidding) and lasagnas and home made«gravy» to use with them, A feast for all the senses can be had at this wonderful little place. Italian spoken here if you choose to do that while you shop. These family owned Italian specialty shops run with love and pride are a dying breed, even in Brooklyn. So go and savor Eagle Cheese to take some of the goodness home with you while you can. It is a treat in so many ways.

I pass by this place all the time on the way to my mom’s house. I shouldn’t say ‘pass’ because I just CAN’T seem to pass it without going in and buying their cheeses, raviolis, pasta, anchovies, stuffed peppers, bread, etc. This place is just unbelievably delicious. It’s an old school Italian place where old school Italians still shop and speak Italian to the people behind the counters. The service is wonderful, they make you feel like family. I’ve been going here for many many years, and I will continue to do so. Try it, you won’t be sorry!

i have been buying cheese from that store for over 40 years a hot loaf of sesame bread-warm freshly smoked mozzarella and some roasted peppers!! – THAT is a sandwich!!-and there is no better-mozzarella fiumagata-(smoked mozzarella) anywhere! – it is family run and operated and the quality is excellent-they have no «off days»:)) — pricier than your average latticini store but so very much better – cleaner and well hell-the best!:) —

there i was, trudging towards the scrubway, walking down a rather lifeless part of avenue u. yes in gravesend. how did you know? i passed by what looked like an ordinary bodega, then something drew me back. ah homemade cheese. hmmm. o.k. i wasn’t in a big hurry. i opened the door and wow! wowie kazowie! i was spellbound by the cheese, entranced by the stromboli, bewitched by the ravioli, mesmerized by the entire sparkling clean, cosy little shop. i procured numerous goods, i couldn’t resist despite the insidious heat outside and the warning in the back of my mind that cooking in this godawful heat was not the most brilliant idea. more cheese please! it was wonderful, it was amore! the ravioli(also homemade) sang figaro artichoke figaro roasted peppers and delicate ricotta! the homemade marinara was robust with flavor i could savor! definitely worth a sweltering cucina! so how do they survive in a now more jewish than italian neighborhood? well they do offer some kosher products, still you can get mr. wonderful there and he is a bit of a ham.(a sandwich of course, don’t be inferring inferrentials) buon appetito!

There is just one thing to say about Eagle Cheese, best home made mozzarella cheese EVER. I like the salted mozzarella and will schlep all the way out to Brooklyn to get a tin to bring home. This cheese will melt in your mouth and has the perfect flavor.
