Don Poncho has been one of my favorite establishments for the past few years. As most of the positive reviews mention: The chips and salsa are amazing, it’s BYOB, the staff is always inviting and helpful. If you aren’t in the mood to watch futbol they will change the channel on one of the tv’s. Additional note– I also suggest the guacamole, veggie, or grand burrito and tostones. Reopen soon, I miss you Danald Allan Poncho !viva Don Poncho!

Really… Really??? You’re gunna close while my delivery guy is still on his way and when he gets lost, and takes 2 hours for a simple pair of fish tacos and nachos? It’s half a mile away, I could have walked, sat down, ate, and walked home by now. Stillllllllll waiting… Even if the food is great, i’ll think twice next time.

When this place first opened it was great, they gave you a little lemonade and some chips & salsa while you waited for your order. The food was good. Then one day I brought my burrito home and it absolutely reeked of perfume or aftershave. Like someone had rubbed some sort of scented lotion all over their hands then made my burrito. I brought it back and they gave me my money back which was great but I was too grossed out by that to come back. I stayed away for awhile but then decided to give it another chance and ordered 2 chicken tacos. Brought them home and the chicken was totally burnt. Not seared or a little blackened at the edge but charred, orange and black burnt. I’m annoyed I gave them another chance and they messed up again. Maybe I had them on 2 bad days but I’d rather go to Grand Morelos up the street where the food is dependably good.

BYOB Mexican spot in Williamsburg… awesome! This place is laid back and everything a neighborhood restaurant should be. The food was fresh and came in large portions. I ordered the shrimp tacos and was very satisfied. They also serve lots of chips and salsa after you sit down, which is always nice. This place is straight-forward, tasty and great for groups. Oh and did I mention it’s BYOB?

Si, chips amazing and crunchy. Very good salsa, perfect mix between not too spicy and not mild. Took too long for the food to come considering there was only one other occupied table. Chimichanga was a great portion size(ie not gigantic) but would have been much better with shredded chicken instead of chunks. Mexican Coca-Cola hits the spot and I’m glad they had it. With many better options in the area, I’m not sure if I would come here again unless I was nearby and tired.

The food is great, and that’s where I give this place any stars at all. But unless you’re willing to wait an hour for your food I would recommend going somewhere else. I even had to ask the waiter to come at least give us water after being there for 15 minutes and just watching her stand there. Because god for bid she was helping the other TWO tables in the WHOLE restaurant. But again, the entire burrito was eaten, and it was great.

Oh, Don Pancho. How our love affair has soured. 2 hours for a delivery order(RIGHT, now I remember why we took them off speed dial) after 3 plaintive, confused calls to ask WHEREINTHEFUCKISOURFOOD, the resolution to which is: «sure, we’ll give you a refund — but you’ll have to give us this ice cold food back.» Totally awesome customer service, guys.

All Hail Bistec Encebollado. After a long day, a very hungry Me, ordered take out via seamless web. Its hard to find a decent place when, in your search, you type in STEAK. The reviews for Don Pancho are mixed. Let there be no confusion: I love ordering from these guys. The ordering is easy on seamless. After 35 minutes, there is a thin steak, well seasoned and covered with onions on a bed of tasty yellow rice. I know they serve other things here, but this is the only thing that I crave. If it aint broke… I keep meaning to try their mexican cuisine, but there really is no need. The steak and onions does it for me. Boyfriend ordered the pork chops. He liked it alot but has since changed his order to the steak and onions. Its where its at ya’ll. Its also the lucky #700th review! woot!

Came here a couple weeks ago and had a shrimp burrito. It’s the kind of burrito you eat with a fork and knife struggle to finish and if you actually do finish or make it through at least 70 percent of the burrito you’re gonna have to take at least a 2 hr «itis» nap afterwards. Also had the steak«Magic» burrito. It was underwhelming and I don’t recommend it at all. Go for the shrimp or any variety of enchiladas or tacos. The prices are good, the people that work there are friendly(we wanted to change the channel on the tv there and the lady handed us the remote and told us to watch whatever we wanted as she brought us more chips). Definitely a solid place in Williamsburg.

Probably really a 3.5 star review but making it four since we always end up here after Barcade. Good ground beef and steak in their burritos, enchiladas and quesadillas but I am definitely not a fan of their chicken. I have an issue anyways with eating chicken that I don’t cook so it’s not that much of a hardship. I love their chimichanga and their enchiladas with green sauce. The last two times they haven’t had horchata which makes me sad because it was great the first few times we went there.

Come on guys, this is not good Mexican food! I’m thisclose to renting a bus and starting a business in which I take New Yorkers out to Sunset Park so that they know what they are missing. We were looking for a casual, cheap taqueria-type place to have some quick, authentic tacos(i.e. tasty meat+cilantro+a squeeze of lime) before a concert. As we were walking in, I heard a girl order the«mole burrito» and I knew instantly that we had made a wrong turn into yet another glorified Taco Bell. We started with al pastor tacos, which ended up being way too huge to have as an appetizer. Al pastor is supposed to be pork roasted on a spit and sliced thinly, so it’s crispy and carmelized on the edges. It’s nothing fancy and you can get it in fast-food taquerias all over the place in other cities, so I see no reason why we were instead served big square, beige chunks of chewy meat mixed with pineapple. Getting the idea that I was definitely not going to get real Mexican food, I actually ended up ordering the Mole Burrito as my entrée… Why the heck not? I love mole and, since they didn’t offer it on the enchiladas where it belongs, why not get it on a big greasy blob of starch like all of the other Americans there? It was greasy and smothered in cheese, but I concede that it was tasty and that it would be pretty enjoyable after a night of partying. The prices were really low, so I guess that’s also a plus… Also, the service was terrible. There was one poor waitress covering the whole place(even though there seemed to be lots of other staff standing around), and we had to wait forever for everything.

This review is for the delivery service only. After submitting an order for this place, it took 3HOURS– YESTHREE– to get our food. When we called multiple times asking where our order was, the customer service was downright terrible and unhelpful. We were told multiple times that our food was on the way and to wait 10 more minutes. Well, 18 times of waiting 10 more minutes and we finally got our food. At least the food was hot, which means that they just plum forgot about our order even though we called tons of times. I will NEVER order take out from this place again. They weren’t even apologetic for forgetting our food or the fact that we had to wait 3 hours for our dinner. F that. I’ll take my takeout business somewhere else.

I came here last night with a number of friends, one of which raved about how good the food was. I love Mexican food, so I really psyched to try this place out especially since its BYOB which can help save a ton of money. The place was fairly empty on a Sunday at 8pm and we were seated right by the front door. My first complaint are the RIDICULOUSLYHUGE flat-screen TVs that are installed side by side on the wall. I was 2 feet away from these screens big enough for Times Square and they distracted me the entire time. Given these are probably great for everyone watching sports, but they had on Extreme Make-over and it was pissing me off. I didn’t come here to watch crappy reality tv. We ordered without issue and confirmed that it was in fact BYOB before whipping out of beers. My friends ordered the burritos, they had a number to choose from. I didn’t feel like a giant mound of carbs so I went for the steak plate which comes with rice, beans, a salad and plantains. During the hour in which it took Don Pancho to make 3 burritos and grill a steak, we noticed that they were able to push out 15 or more delivery ordered. I’m so glad that someone sitting at home as more of a priority than someone sitting in their establishment starving to death. We went through several ordered of chips and salsa, which they kept explaining we had to pay for. Awesome — thanks for the hospitality. The salsa was really good though. Our orders arrived at different times, which was really annoying since we wanted to wait to eat all together. Mine came out first and after about 5 minutes, I started to eat since my steak was already cooling off. The portion was huge, but the steak was really crappy. It’s pretty obvious its the type of steak they cut up and serve in the burritos, so its low-grade beef. I was expecting something a little different, perhaps a skirt steak? The steak itself was huge, but you don’t exactly want to sit there and eat a giant, crappy steak that had almost a powdery texture. The rice and beans were very tasty and I asked for a side of their green sauce, which was really delicious. The plantain was also really good — and I don’t even like bananas! I would have been really happy with just a $ 2 side of rice and beans and the plantains — I feel silly for coughing up $ 11 for something that was work $ 3. My friends, however, really enjoyed their burritos — so I guess that’s the way to go. Maybe their take-out is more reliable than their in-house service, but I doubt I’ll be coming here again.

Pinky: What are we going to order tonight, Br[ai]n? Br[ai]n: The same thing we order every night, a chicken mole burrito. A couple weeks ago I ate chicken mole burritos from everywhere in the neighborhood and a couple places not in the neighborhood(don’t judge me!), and my brain confirmed what my stomach already knew: Don Pancho makes the best damn chicken mole burrito around. My lady friend and her roommate are fiercely loyal to DP’s cancuun shrimp burrito and while quite good, I just can’t let go of the chicken mole. While most other places have better tacos than burritos, I’d recommend the opposite here, go burrito over taco. The only thing I may fault them on is sometimes the rice: everything else ratio is a bit high but that’s barely a gripe. When my roommate recently ordered the nachos with chicken I discovered something amazing: CHICKENMOLENACHOS. Score. I should also mention that I came here with 10 people on Cinco de Mayo and the staff was amazing… with the total bill coming to $ 120. I think we tipped them $ 50 just cuz it was so amazingly cheap and they were such champs about our motley crew.

After attempting to strike up a conversation with my waitress, I discovered that: 1. She didn’t speak English. In fact, no one in the whole joint did. 2. I speak far less Spanish than I should, given that I took it up through junior year of high school, when I offended the Spanish Chair and she threw me out of the program(something to do with the conjugation of the verb«poner»). 3. They were out of shrimp. Although I had wanted shrimp tacos, I settled for the al pastor. And DAMN were they delicious. I was so happily surprised, I didn’t know what to do. In fact, everything I ate impressed. The chips and salsa were perfect, and they weren’t shy about refilling my bowl. I also ordered a side of maduros, because I wasn’t sure two tacos would be enough, and they were predictably awesome. It takes a lot to screw up maduros though.

Coming from southern California, I know that I’m pretty picky when it comes to mexican food. I love mexican food but I haven’t had anything decent here in the east coast.(seriously, can’t some of the best restaurants from CA move to NYC?! they’ll make so much money!!) So I was interested in trying out this place since they had such great ratings! Coming at around 3:30pm on a Saturday, the place was pretty much empty. It was clean and the staff was VERY friendly. My hubs got their cancun shrimp burrito and I got the mole burrito. They described it as a «chocolate» type of sauce, but don’t worry it doesn’t taste like chocolate. I loved the chips & salsa(thick style chips, yum!) and my burrito was pretty good. My hubs described it to be «very casserole-like» and I think that pretty much describes it. His shrimp burrito was good too, but very different from my mole burrito. Overall it was pretty good but nothing extraodinary. The ambiance is nice and our experience was very pleasant. I think I would go back, but it’s really out of the way to get there!

My mission while in New York was to inhale as much Mexican/Latin American food as human physiology would allow and Don Pancho came highly recommended. The décor is lacking and there are a junkload of typos on the menu and outdoor signage, but let’s focus on the topic at hand here, shall we? KICKASSMEXICANFOOD. When asking for clarification on a few menu items, the server summoned the cook(owner, perhaps?) from the kitchen and he helped us narrow down our choices. I ordered a vegetarian burrito and made a few amendments to the fillings, which the cook said wouldn’t be a problem at all. He even made a few suggestions to improve my meal enjoyment. Food came quickly and was tasty as shit. On a Saturday night the place was virtually empty so we had the place to ourselves. I devoured every millimetre of food on my plate — it was really scrumptious, no nonsense Mexican food exactly the way I wanted it, and the total bill for two people was just over $ 20!
