I was in desperate need for contacts and I saw the groupon deal for $ 25 contact fitting exam. Yes please! They even tried to fit me in before I leave NYC for the holidays even though they were full until mid-​January because my fsa was about to expire. Their contacts were extremely well priced so it was an easy choice to order contacts from them too. They didn’t have them in stock so they offered to ship it to my place. Got my prescription and contact lenses shipped all for less than $ 250. Best experience ever and I’ve done this for over 10 years!
They also offer $ 225 of credit towards glasses, but my glasses will be over $ 400 due to my high prescription so I chose to skip out. They gave me 0 grief about it too, which was great.
I will definitely go to them as long as I’m in NYC.

I got a groupon for this place which seemed like a great deal. However I had to wait about 4 weeks for an appointment. My joke of an eye exam lasted maybe 10 min (mostly from questions and, conversation with the doctor). Literally all she had me do was cover each eye and read whatever line I could see, nothing more. I handed over my old prescription and glasses to the guy at the front desk when I walked in so he could write it down, the one problem is my vision was worse then that prescription because it was old and somehow I left with a less powerful prescription when the doctor raised the strength of it in the room. They don’t have a lot of options for mens frames in the store, and if you get the groupon that includes $ 225 towards glasses you MUST order them the day of your «exam» or its gone. I will never go back to this place and I don’t recommend you do either.

I was really happy to get such an awesome Groupon deal for Community Optical. I had to wait awhile to get an appointment, but once the day came it was obvious that it was well worth the wait. The appointment was fast and efficient with incredibly helpful and friendly staff/​doctor. I’ll absolutely be coming back.

After my review Alex contacted me and he was very helpful and friendly. He gave me my prescription. I would say the staff working in the office is very helpful, not sure about the actual eye doctor. They really need to clearly communicate if you can receive your prescription without a follow up. I don’t understand why they made this huge deal; this could have all been resolved months ago and I could have had some contacts this whole time.

Exam was very thorough, I was bit picky because I have never used reading glasses before, yet everybody was very patient and accommodative. Nice young lady helped to choose my frames. They are light and chic. Alex coordinated everything flawlessly. Given that place is quite busy, my glasses were ready really fast, sooner than expected. Best deal in Brooklyn!

Accommodating. I had issues with the first two sets of trial lenses they gave me (my problem-couldn’t have been predicted) so they ultimately saw me for 3 visits, and ordered several sets of trial lenses for me to make sure I ended up with ones I was comfortable in. Then they figured out the least expensive way for me to get the contacts, which turns out wasn’t through them. They tried to help me find a pair of glasses, but I didn’t really need new ones so I decided against it. I will definitely go back to them. They provided really good eye care (I felt that the dr who works on Sundays was very thorough) and also good customer service. Couldn’t ask for more!

I don’t have an account here so I’m writing this review under a friends account because I just had the best exam and experience! This place is heaven sent!!! Price is amazing… unbeatably low! Doctor and staff are professional, courteous & extremely helpful! So grateful I found this place, wish I had know about it sooner!

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of using my Groupon deal that I had purchased for Community Opitcal. I desperately needed a new eye exam and wanted new frames along with contact lenses, and thankfully it was easy as 1, 2, 3. (and this coming from someone who has worn glasses for nearly 20 years of his life.
I spoke with Alex, who works in the front, and he greeted me as soon as I had entered the shop. He was very kind, extremely knowledgeable, and was super patient with me. I went straight to the back to get my eyes checked with the eye doctor, which took no more than 15+ minutes. Soon enough, Alex was helping me with new frames, and we both agreed that one pair of frames that he had chosen looked perfect for the frame of my face. I’m happy for that Groupon because it definitely saved me money. I was also able to put a deposit down until payday (thanks work) the following week and that definitely put a huge smile on my face.
All in all, my experience was not only smooth, but a true breeze. It’s rare that I write reviews in general, but when I truly believe in good customer service, I make an effort to give all of the praise where it is deserved. Thank you guys! I look forward to working with you both in the future!

The doctor is friendly and pleasant. I took a really long time deciding which frames I wanted, both this year and last, and they’ve been very patient with me. Love the frames I got both times. Definitely plan to continue coming here for my future glasses/​lenses needs.

I had a Groupon for an eye exam with contact lens fitting and $ 225 towards lenses & frames. I was a few minutes late, but called ahead to let them know. They were very nice about it.
The doctor was very sweet, knowledgeable, and friendly. She answered all of my questions and was very helpful. The exam didn’t take a long time. When I got out to the front, the girl behind the counter was very nice and helpful as well.
I got a great pair of glasses and was out of their quickly, which is nice on a sunny Sunday afternoon. I highly recommend them!

Came here with a Groupon to get a prescription for contact lenses. Ended up paying a fraction of the price compared to anywhere else, including other places offering Groupons. Although it was a huge discount, the service was still top-​notch. Saw the Optometrist immediately after filling out the form and received a full exam. The Optometrist was courteous and professional. He gave me a sample, which worked and then a week later they ordered me a few boxes of contacts. Perfect experience, highly recommend this place!

The doctor I saw was very thorough and kind. However it has been three weeks since I left with a pair of trial contact lenses and every time I have called for my prescription to order lenses I have been told the doctor is not in. I was told I’d receive a call back twice, with no follow through. I was told my prescription would be emailed to me the following week, only to call and be told my prescription is not available until the next week. I was offered another pair of trial lenses, but can’t be given my prescription to order a box of my own contacts. Very frustrating as I have left town for the summer. The exam itself was great, but one star for the very frustrating experiences I’ve had with this office.

Great staff and the doctor was so fast! They are quick, but take the time actually help you with glasses.

Alex was patient with me since I wear glasses all the time and I have specific preferences. I tried on all kinds of glasses and set my sights for a designer pair. Usually I go to
(amazing for your budget) for glasses, but I had such a deal here!

Total: $ 519
I had $ 255 with the living social and Alex gave me an extra $ 44 off.
$ 250 for frames (Michael Kors clear big cat eyes) and lenses. The frames were worth it!
Last time I got an exam I paid $ 225 — for JUST the two exams (glasses and contacts).

I was given a great price on an eye exam and glasses, but perhaps more importantly than that, the staff and owner were accommodating to the extreme. They tirelessly worked with me to find a time to meet so that I could pick up my finished glasses despite my odd work schedule. Highly recommend!

I’m super excited about writing this review.
So initially when my friend pointed out the groupon to me, I thought «hey, this place probably isn’t the best, but eh… I’ll see what my fellow Unilocalers have to say.» So when I saw the 5 star rating, i’m like «nope, this is rigged.»
Ok, so fast forward to me purchasing the groupon, and going in for my appointment.
When I spoke to Alex on the phone, he was very pleasant, and accomodating. He was flexible, and worked with me on my schedule. Anywho, I went in for my appointment, and Dr. Zara was very polite, and Alex was very friendly. It was then I realized that the reviews aren’t rigged it’s just a case of genuinely pleasant, and amazing customer service. Alex makes you feel welcomed, and it isn’t about the money for him. Though an awesome perc when owning a business, he works with his customers. It helps also that there was minimal to no wait time for me to be seen by the dr. The prices are very reasonable for frames, lens, and contacts.
I’ve since been there twice, and I also brought my mom in for her appointment. I will say that Alex has made a returning customer out of me.

Five stars for the price and the service. I came in with a groupon, 15 minutes late, and was still treated like royalty on a Sunday Morning. Dr Gormandy was very nice, informative, and non-​pushy trying to sell me products. She told me that I could still get my contacts from 1800contacts and gave me my prescription. But when I spoke to Alex I realized the priced were cheaper here than at 1800contacts and you don’t have to wait 5 – 7 business day to get them.
This isn’t one of those sort of places that they make you say when you make the appointment that you have a groupon and treat you differently and rush through your appointment. I live in Manhattan and came into Brooklyn on a Sunday and I would do it again. Great deal, great experience.

Love this place! Alex was very helpful with fitting me into the schedule at the last minute during my urgent situation of blindness (broken glasses, no contacts). I saw Dr. G she was warm, straight to the point, and listened to prior concerns that I had reported from a previous appointment. I’m definitely a customer for life.

Been going here for 2 years and I am in love. If you buy your glasses here they FIX them for free or low cost. The rates are amazingly affordable and Alex, the optician truly cares ^^
I broke my rimless CK glasses as a rock concert last night and got price quotes of $ 40 and $ 70. Community Optical will service them for FREE. I’m RUNNING after work to go. there for my annual checkup and glasses fix. I’m very pleased.

The five star rating caught my eye when I was researching a good place to get contact lenses.
It’s nice to discover a business that puts customer service as a priority, especially when it’s genuine as opposed to forced because of corporate policy.
Alex was a great help in making sure I was satisfied with my exam and contact lens fitting, and I’ll definitely be going back when I need to replenish my contact lens supply.
