Great beer, great service and great food. My girlfriend had the goulash and I had sauerbraten(pot roast) the meat in both was so tender it fell apart under the weight of a fork, and was really tasty! Serious comfort food!

Been living here since 2009 and just came here tonight. Why not sooner? Mussels appetizer is a spicy tomato garlic white wine broth, so good I wish the bowl was bigger! Chicken paprika is two pieces of bone-in chicken(moist as ever) in a thick tomato-like sauce with spätzle. Why hasn’t spätzle come into my life sooner like this place? Husband liked his chicken schnitzel with potatoes and cucumber salad. Elder flower spritzer is like a sweeter ginger ale sorta? Either way tasted good! «I’ll be back!» like Arnold!

Fan of: The welcoming atmosphere and down to earth vibe Monday Economy Night! Smaller menu with cheaper prices :) Beers paired well with food Shmeh: Sometimes a dish can be hit or miss, but they are always filling and perfect for a winter stop in.

This is a funky, fun austrian restaurant! We had a great experience on Sat. night. I showed up with a party of 8. They were very accommodating — the service was spot on and friendly; the music was good(it was mostly Prince and not too loud); and the food was good and you got a lot of food. I would give five stars but my german beer was a bit flat.

Walked in and I was the only one in the restaurant, so I decided to set on the bar area. The Bar tender was very helpful with recommendation and I ordered the beef stew with potatoes and it was ok but expensive $ 15 +taxes OMG. And she forget to bring me any bread.

What a fun and funky place! Been here now three times, once for lunch & twice for dinner. Lunch menu had many delicious sandwich choices. Side salad had this amazing dressing. For dinner, we went once on Monday when there was a budget menu, which was limited(don’t think they have that any more) but had something for everybody. The fried trout was so good — nice and crispy. Tonight I was really tempted by the seafood stew special but I was craving something fried so went for the wiener schnitzel. It was so enormous it covered the entire plate! So yummy: nice and thin, perfectly breaded and not the least bit greasy. There were delicious crispy potatoes underneath and a pickled cucumber salad that was the perfect foil for the fried food. Service has been great each time. Café Steinhof has an extensive beer selection on draft and in bottles and the drafts are a healthy pour. House cocktails have some interesting choices. Prices are moderate for Park Slope and given the portion sizes and food quality, it’s really a good deal. Oh and on Sunday nights there are movies. I was really tempted by tonight’s choice — Zombie Strippers — but had to go home for Game 5 of Mets/Royals.

Small, quiet, good beer, heavy Germanish comfort food. Kinda spendy but whatever. It was worth it. Plus the bathroom was cleaned with Teutonic precision.

Came here for an informal brunch with a friend. I had the farmers pan which consisted of veggies and potatoes — very hearty and great pick me up. Really nice to sit outside and have a beer as well. Great service. Enjoy!

The liptaur sandwich(spiced cheese) was a total find. Id like to go back and try some more.

It’s a small, cozy café. Dimmed light with cool music on the background, not too loud, so you can have a conversation. Weisswurst veal with red cabbage and potatoes was really good. We also got seafood ragout and panne with trout and shrimp that were great as well. I also recommend chocolate custard for desert!

Me and the GF had a terrific dinner at the bar. We spent $ 104.52 before tip(if I can find the deets, I’ll add them). It was comfortable and casual. It has a real family feel. Incidentally, the Sazerac is on the menu. I had one. It was very good. Consider always ordering the Sazerac if you see it on a menu. TIP: The meat and cheese plate was excellent. BONUS: Good value!

The first tomato soup was room temperature. I asked for it to be returned for a hot bowl. The second tomato soup was room temperature plus about three degrees. I then got the potato pancakes($ 12 or something more?) I received two QUARTERS of one room-temperature pancake on a bed of greens. I was there, in fact, with a friend from Germany who, besides noting multiple misspellings on the«German» menu, found the undersize bottles of beer we ordered to be less than satisfying. Did I mention the silent waitress? Pass. UPDATE: I received a sincere and heartfelt note from the owner. This means A LOT, and I am more than willing to give Steinhof another try. He was«horrified» at my review. I retract my statement about language(he live in Austria!) and I should have paid more attention to what the menu says about the size of the beers. I am updating my star rating on nothing more than the owner wants to make things right! Good job!

Steinhof is low-key, but, certainly not divey. I go there to drink a few pilsners with my co-workers. We usually stay for a few hours and always feel welcomed! Their food is excellent(from what I’ve tried), prices are decent, and it’s a mature, relaxing environment. Natasha is a great bartender and I look forward to seeing her whenever I decide to go. She’s a great conversationalist and very accommodating! 5 stars!

Came on a Monday for their poor mans meal. Awesome. Filling and flavorful. We did spend as much on our drinks as we did indoor but oh well. The cheese spaetzle was so good at the end of the meal we order a to go. It was supposed to be my sisters lunch the next day but she ate it all by midnight. Might go back on a regular day but can’t really see the need since you get can your fill of this place on Mondays on the cheap.

Delicious food for a cheap price. I got the weiner schnitzel and it was a gigantic sandwich with a side salad and it was all for around ~12 $. They have outdoor seating and the waiter was extremely nice. This is a great lunch spot and I will definitely be back to try some other things at Café Steinhof.

Loved the proportions, the light Austrian ale and the savory beef goulash. My pork schnitzel was ginormous, perfectly breaded and fried. Their roasted potatoes were addictive, roasted crisp and sprinkle with parsley, and sea salt. The decorum was adorable and left you feeling like you weren’t in Brooklyn anymore.

Another great find near home! An Austrian restaurant in Brooklyn. NICE! We came in on a breezy summer evening, ready to stuff our faces with stodgy Austrian food. The waiter was very helpful and patient, while we considered our options. Soooo many choices. Should we go with cheese spaetzle or the Roesti? Or maybe the bred dumplings? Or the schnitzel? We made a decision in the end and shared some Spaetzle, one main Roesti and main bred dumplings, so everyone was happy. Plus a bottle of wine to round it up. LOVE this place.

Such a fun and eclectic atmosphere. Lots of pictures on the wall, different tables and a very inviting bar. Nice to just sit and look around while waiting for your food or drink. The Austrian menu is really a nice change from anything in the neighborhood. It’s probably the best Sauerbraten I’ve ever had. Everywhere I go, I compare it to this one. Monday nights, the chef is off and they only serve their amazing goulash and fried trout. Only $ 6 each! Such a great deal! I always make it a point to come back here, even if just for a drink. They have a great beer selection and have new cocktails to pick off the chalk board.

Maybe Austrian food just doesn’t stick well with me… I had the«Special» from the«Specials Menu — Saturday». The meat tasted like chicken parmesan and had some kind of doughy-rice kind of «rice» on the side. I wish I remembered what it was called. So, for me, the Special was not so special. Maybe I’d give it another try to eat another dish… but maybe not… Atmosphere was nice. Not too loud. You’re able to have a conversation with your company without raising your voice.
